BLUE BADGE PARKING ONLY IS AVAILABLE. OTHER PARKING PLEASE USE LOCAL PAY & DISPLAY. Head through the imposing gatehouse and step into 3,000 years of history. Explore the castle headland with one of our experienced guides for FREE or embark on your own journey through history with one of our audio tours and gain a fascinating insight into its past, from Iron Age settlements, to the Roman signal station and medieval chapel. The castle's heyday was in the 12th century when it was developed by Henry II and King John. This mighty castle has seen action in some of England's most defining battles. It was twice besieged by Parliamentarians in the Civil War, and has defended king and country from the Jacobites, Napoleon and the German Kaiser, when it came under bombardment during the First World War.

Great view

It's a wee bit of a climb , but well worth every step with the castle walls ,and an amazing view across both bays ,

It is what it is, an eyesore on a hill. I enjoyed the views of the bay more than then pile of stones which is amazingly still standing. Take a book, at least you can read quietly there.

We visited the castle in the Easter holidays and much like every English heritage site it's expensive also when I looked at the receipt when I got home. I found I was charged £1.60 charitable donation WTF I mean I understand it costs a lot to run these places hence selling Jam at £10 a jar and the mad thing... More

Hello Mark R Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It’s shame you thought the entry fee was expensive which for a family ticket was £16.90. It is very rare to find anything cheaper than £20 anywhere locally for family tickets with the amount and quality of what the site has to offer. The gift aid donation... More

What a walk up to the castle, but it was well worth a trip up there. Fabulous views from the top. Some really nice pictures to be taken and the area is well maintained, lovely and clean area. Staff were extremely friendly, especially the young man offering samples of drinka an Chutney. A real credit to the place!

Our family visited Scarborough Castle and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. The location of the castle's remains sits high on the cliff top above the town of Scarborough which provides an amazing view of the Yorkshire coastline. A well laid out walk is provided which guides you around the remains and several lookouts provide outstanding photo opportunities. A café... More

We visited the castle 10 years ago and nothing has changed. It's good value for money at around £16 for a family ticket, but that's because there's not that much to see! There's one ruined tower, a Roman part and a bit of wall to climb. However you can have a lovely walk around the grassy grounds, there are amazing... More

We have been to Scarborough many times but this was our first visit to the castle. A steep walk to get there but the views take your mind away from that. The price you pay is not expensive as you could spend hours there, it gets you away from the hustle and bustle of a packed sea front. Very friendly... More

We visited the ruins of the castle on a windy raining Wednesday morning. Maybe we are not “as fit as we used to be” but accessing the castle from the harbour end is a bit of a challenge. The constantly rising footpath certainly got our heart rate pulsing! However, once at the summit, sorry the castle, the views are magnificent,... More

Walked up to caste from the South Beach area. Steep and steady climb. Used our membership of English heritage for entry. Audio device available from entry desk that provides useful information as you walk around the site. Great views of the surrounding areas from the top. Cafe and toilets at top of the hill.

We loved the audio guides, amazing detail about the site brought it to life. V well done. Views were outstanding. We especially found all staff friendly and warm towards us. We loved the jam tasting, had a lovely sandwich enjoying the atmosphere and would say it is unmissable if you are in the area.
