Head through the imposing gatehouse and step into 3,000 years of history. Explore the castle headland with one of our experienced guides for FREE or embark on your own journey through history with one of our audio tours and gain a fascinating insight into its past, from Iron Age settlements, to the Roman signal station and medieval chapel. The castle's heyday was in the 12th century when it was developed by Henry II and King John. This mighty castle has seen action in some of England's most defining battles. It was twice besieged by Parliamentarians in the Civil War, and has defended king and country from the Jacobites, Napoleon and the German Kaiser, when it came under bombardment during the First World War.

Was staying in Scarborough with family, but I am the history buff - so visited the castle on my own. My son always complains that I read everything , so I had a great time having a good history lesson in peace ! Entry was £6.10 ( including gift aid ) and this included a handy audio guide. The two... Spent well over hour at this venue, tour was very interesting with all the history. Didn't realize that part of the coastline had disappeared with a landslide. There was even a someone there entertaining the children with sword fighting.

I went to Scarborough castle for the first time today and really enjoyed it. The guided tour was very informative and my four year son really enjoyed sword school. The castle is really interesting and I would recommend that people visit the castle when holidaying in scarborough.

Hi, lovely visit but bear in mind that there is a rather steep incline to climb to reach it (as you would expect with a castle). For those who would struggle with this, you could be dropped off at the gateway before driver goes to park the car nearby as at least two car parks in close proximity. If a blue... More

Says it all in the title. Worth a visit. The views are spectacular and there is enough of the stonework and defences left to get a good idea of what it looked like once.

Visited here on a short break to Scarborough. But to be honest very disappointing there is very little to see and not all in my opinion worth the entry fee. Nice views but that's about it so for that reason would not recommend it

stunning views from all around the castle grounds. Steeped in history, a tour is available from a delightful dedicated staff member who takes on the role with excellent gusto. A great place to explore and for children to learn a part of history.

I visited these castle ruins on my weekend trip to Scarborough. The weather wasn't great which didn't help with the difficult climb to the ruins which doesn't have a clear path or walkway. Not for the eldery to attempt anyway.

Hello Ferryfo Thank you for leaving your review. There is a steep incline onto site, but when taken steadily it is easily achievable by people of all ages. I would just like to take this opportunity to mention that there is blue badge parking directly on site for those who require it. I am also not sure which way you... More
