Walked the stretch of the Cinder Track between Ravenscar and Robin Hoods Bay. Easy walking with varied scenery. Some good views especially at the Ravenscar end. Lots of paths branching off so can easily make circular walks taking in sections of the path. Would recommend this section especially if combined with the coastal walk between Ravenscar and Robin Hoods Bay

A lovely walk for all the family and dog. Easy walking very flat, nice views of the coast and country side. If you are up for a good long walk it is possible to walk all the way from Scarborough to Whitby have fish and chips then walk back.

We got the early steam train and then just sat back and enjoyed the whole steam experienced Fantastic even after a day around Whitby with tired legs to relax again in the comfort of the click ca de click carriages will worth the money it costs.

We could walk to the rail trail from where we were staying in Clougton. The real trail itself is wide and flat and well maintained. We ventured off the trail a bit to go along the cliffs which was well worth the detour! Look for the fairy garden on the rail trail in Claughton, near the old train station. Really... More

Used this many times and parts have recently been re surfaced although it's pretty good most of time ( except parts maybe muddy after rain ). It connects many places of interest but does have some long gradients that give you good appetites or thirst. Just did Hayburn whyke to ravenscar part and return last weekend and only disappointment is... More

We took the train from Pickering to Goathland, then walked from Goathland to Grosmont on the rail trail, got back on the train and went to Whitby. (We found Scarborough more interesting than Whitby if time is limited.)

Very good path for most of the way, stony rough in only a couple of short stretches. Fairly gentle inclines make it good for cycling a an easy walk. We walked from Scarborough and intended to take the bus back from Ravenscar, but discovered when we arrived there that the only 2 daily buses are in the morning. We carried... More

Brilliant traffic free route following the old Scarborough to Whitby rail line. Lovely to walk or cycle, very impressive going over the Larpool viaduct just outside Whitby

I often walk this route when I get my car serviced - so I must have walked for the Scarborough to Burniston section at least a dozen times. The route is very good, and for the main part scenic. However, the route is littered very badly - especially at the Scarborough end - end I do not enjoy threading my... More

The X93 bus provides walkers with access to shorter sections of the 20 mile long Trail. The X93 service bus (Arriva) route includes a section between Scarborough railway station and Whitby railway station, the two stations are roughly in the same areas as the two ends of the Rail Trail. The bus route crosses over or is close to the... More
