The Loch and Glen are an easy drive from Ballater. The walk to the Loch from the car park is about 30 minutes. You can walk round the loch, but we decided on a path which went directly to the loch edge. It is a beautiful view and great for stone skimming!

Beautiful and not too challenging to access. The hike is easy and the views quite stunning. Parking to begin the walk is a bit tricky to find.

Had a lovely long walk to the Loch, good pathways, peace and quiet - gorgeous sunshine - so lucky. Good parking £5 all day, and there are toilets.

Gorgeous views and we saw about 30 deer on the hillside! The public toilets and visitor centre were shut unfortunately and be aware the car park is £5 for cars.

Fab walk and amazing scenery . First time here and we loved it . We normally do lots of cycling holidays so it was nice to be in Braemar and Ballater and do a mix of walking and cycling

Amazing walk in the sunny winter sun . Normally we go in the Summer but it was so lovely to go on a warm winters day . We were lucky to see the stags come down

We made a day of climbing Lochnagar and visiting Loch Muick. A decent walk and good climb. Well worth the slog for the exhilarating views from the peak and then on the walk back down to Loch Muick

Stunning loch. It is about 8miles down a single track road, with occasional passing places, not suitable for large vehicles or caravans.
There is a parking area (£5 flat fee) which may be full, and there is no alternative.
There are toilets, but when we went they hadn't been cleaned for eight days according to the cleaners rota, and they looked like it.
You can either do a short or a long loop. The latter is a bit more tricky on the East side, but a good path on the West.
Suitable for slightly older children
Well worth a visit, we really enjoyed the walk and solitude
