The Charter Market is located in the market square next to St Paul's church and Shire Hall.

There are some great stalls selling a variety of foods and it is a great place to get your provisions as an alternative to going to a supermarket.

Driving through Bedford, just over the bridge, stopped off to explore the Charter Market.
Interesting local market in the heart of Bedford.
Lots of fresh local produce.

A good traditional market with a wide choice of fresh vegetables, a lot of it local. There are stalls also selling eggs, preserves etc.
A bonus is Saturday mornings car parking is free for 2 hours, although you may sometimes need to wait to get a space.

Start at the best Fruit and Veg market I have seen in a long time, and just walk, the market winds itself around the town centre and has a wide variety of offers. On the opposite side of the bus station on each side of the carpark/toilets entrance are two large shops well worth a browse to add to the experience.

My favourite aspect to Bedford was their market. It was busy during late morning and it’s truly a great British sight to see local produce being sold in such banterous fashion. Very much a solid community a tight-knit feel to the stalls and the people occupying the tables. Loud voices calling out reduced prices and tempting in the onlookers! - there was a lot of variety with fresh fruit and vegetables all locally sourced. This is all found in the St. Paul’s Church square and filters off towards Silver Street too.

First ever visit to this market. So impressed with the range of fruit and veg (stuff I have never heard of) all so fresh and reasonably priced. This will have to be s more regular stop off and the bonus of 2 hours free parking care of Bedford borough council was a real boon.

Impressed!

I go there mainly for the fruit and vegetables which are always top quality and very reasonably priced. I have never been disappointed with anything I have bought.

There are plenty of market stalls here and you can also buy fresh eggs and fish. There is a bakery van as well and their freshly baked bread rolls and cakes are lovely.

This market is definitely worth a visit.

A lovely market in the middle of Bedford, where you can find nearly everything you would need from a market. Well worth a visit.

This is a great destination if you need fruit and veg at very competitive prices. The banter is good and there is a nice atmosphere too. There is ample parking all within easy walking distance, some street parking is free but most is meter pay . The council owned car parks offer 2 hours free parking at the weekends, and with additional parking now available at st marys gardens - it couldn’t be easier or cheaper to visit.

Apart from the £1 bowls which offer excellent value, it’s possible to buy a lot of goods by the box which is the the best choice — £5 for cherries £3.50 for vine tomatoes— amazing !
