Love BP! I come walking there every week and even though I am the only person with no dog I feel welcomed by everyone. Locals are friendly, the park itself lends itself for walks, photography, hide and seek with the kids, coffee and gossip with friends and anything you can imagine. Great place to make new friends if you are new in town!

Bedford Park gives you an indication of its size as you go along the length of it along Park Avenue. The walk around the massive park is slight over a mile with a beautiful water fountain on the east side which also has a children’s play area.
The Pavilion cafe in the centre serves some good food and can be a stop for a coffee. Tennis courts, basketball courts are spread around the park.
Seems like a fantastic place for dog walking, a run or a leisurely stroll.

I moved to the area a week before the first lockdown, and this park became an essential part of my life in the neighbourhood. I started to get to know the park walking round the two open areas, then tried walking, running and cycling the paved paths that loop in a figure of eight around the extent of the park, finally I discovered the woodland walks amongst the conifers that remind me of being in the north eastern US. It's great to be a Victorian, exercise or explore all in the same space.

Bedford Park is North of Bedford town centre. If you head up De Parys Avenue from the centre of town this will bring you to the park which you can enter through a beautiful set of wrought iron gates.
The park is quite large and at the entrance there is an information board showing you a map and a number of different walks you can take to explore and there are many different distances depending on how far you want to walk.
There are some well tended paths as well as green spaces to sit and relax or play sports. Robinson Pools is just on the edge of the park as well.
Well worth visiting for an area to rest and relax.

One of my close friends moved here so my other friends and I decided to surprise her. We spent hours in this park reminiscing about the good old days.

This is an excellent park and beautiful space for everyone - built in the late Victorian era it has magnificent trees and a great lake, with swans, ducks and a variety of birds - the grandchildren love it and so should we all!

We live in Bedford and have always found Bedford Park the ideal place for taking the grandchildren when they visit. Its play area is extremely child friendly with something for all ages. The grandchildren also love to feed the ducks on the little lake in the park and run around its perimeter. The park also hosts Proms in the Park every year with great success. This year Tom Jones performed in the park to a massive audience, a very impressive evening. The park now has the Pavilion cafe which receives great reviews. All in all, Bedford Park has everything going for it.

We only live about 5 minutes from the park & we are so grateful to have such a beautiful little space on our doorstep.
The park itself is a little slice of tranquility in the middle of a busy town, great place to walk & escape to for some peace & quiet. Lovely big fields for kids to play in & lovely ponds to see local wildlife.
The cafe is also great, lovely food & drink (although slightly pricey) and the staff are great - I visited with my son when he was only a few weeks old & as a new mum I was very anxious but the staff made me feel so welcome, helped me get the buggy in & out of the cafe and reassured me I was doing a good job! Really made my day.

Can you do a bbq in this park and if so, where? I don’t have a garden and was told this is the only place in Bedford that allows bbq.

Yes you can do a bbq in any public park. PParking in Bedford is always a problem unless you want to park on Saturday for a few hours free in town or all day Sunday. Out side Bedford Park has parkinng along the street avoid the yellow lines though. Have a great BBQ.

That I do not know it is a very popular event and there are generally cones out around the local streets. Best bet would be to park in one of the public car parks and walk to the event
When there a gig at park is it best to take chairs or not

Does the park close at night? I want to do a walk that finishes by walking through the park but this will likely be dusk/after dark?
