About
We sell a huge range of secondhand books from rare and collectable gems to good quality paperbacks. We also have a comfortable (ie with lots of squishy seats) 'Bargain Book Zone' which is stuffed full of books at £1 or £2. Our books cover all subjects, and come from all ages. The earliest we have sold was printed in 1476! We now operate from magnificent premises in the heart of Bedford and welcome all who love books. We love books - and we love people who love books.

New premises, new promises

The bookshop moved in October from the site pictured in Castle Road to one in St Peter's Street, next to Pizza Express and The Quarry Theatre. The change has been a huge success and everyone raves about it. Much larger range of books, and really committeed involved staff.

An absolute treasure trove!

First visit to Eagle bookshop today and it was amazing! Such a huge collection of interesting, beautiful books in a lovely, spacious setting. My daughter was fascinated by the ages and decorative styles of the books and there was an interesting selection of science equipment at the back of the shop. The two gentlemen who were working there were lovely, knowledgeable and obviously passionate about what they do. Bought some beautiful books at such reasonable prices! What a find!

Eagle book shop has moved location into a more spacious venue, the shop has a very light airy feeling about it. The layout of the shop now means that it is easy to find your specific requirement. Staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Parking is with in a 5 minute walk and there are near by restaurants and cafes' should you require food or coffee

A great destination

An amazingly eclectic mix of second hand books , includes bargains, collectibles, and curiosities. The books are all carefully ordered and cover every subject imaginable . Peter the owner, is so friendly and welcoming and only too pleased to offer help and advice.
Most months there is an evening poetry reading, by the Swan Theatre which is really more performance art than simply reading . It’s brilliant but tickets must be pre booked -

My favourite bookshop

Friendly service and so many interesting books. The sale room offers books from £1, and the 4 other rooms offers a wide range of amazing old books - there's something for every budget.
There are books in almost every category you can think of and if you are looking for something specific, you only have to ask.

I should have thought of Eagle first when looking for an edition of Pepys' diaries, but I remembered it eventually and went in and asked -- quicker than browsing if you don't know the layout well, and every second hand bookshop is different. Just about kept pace with the owner as he legged it up the stairs, and straight to a choice of three editions: cheap paperback, typographical reduced edition of eight volumes down to three, and a dear one. That's what you might call depth of stock. At £ 20 for the three volumes, in perfect nick, a bargain. Vast stock -- and they know what they've got. And where it is.

Great selection of second hand books

A really interesting shop to spend time browsing; a lovely atmosphere and an Incredible number of books on every subject imaginable .all the books are second hand . Prices do vary depending on the age , subject matter, condition, and rarity of the books. But pricing is always fair and there is usually a bargain to be found

This bookshop is an excellent complement to the Castle Road area - full of very interesting books across a wide subject area but especially good for local history - highly recommended.

Excellent local bookshop for local topics
Mar 2015 • Solo
Great bookshop with an expanding selection of local history, genealogy, travel & guide books on Bedford and surrounding area. That's my interest but there's so much more on every all topics you can think of plus most times there's a bargain to be had. Freindly & knowleable service. When I'm in the location I always go in & browse, & sometimes buy.
