Initially attracted by the city and its history but disappointed by the preponderance of militaria and how little back ground material. Worth a visit, especially if you are inclined to pistols, swords and stuff

Unfortunately we didn't get to see all that was available because we needed to catch our train. But we'd definitely go back - very interesting exhibits - well worth a visit

We could have spent all day in this museum but only had 2 hours so a return visit is essential. Great deal of thought has gone into the layout and displays. Wide variety too - a must if you are visiting Carlisle

We went to see the exhibition of drawings and paintings by Cumbrian artist Percy Kelly which was excellent and took the chance to look around the whole museum. An excellent place with exhibits from the Roman times to the recent past.
