I visited the museum last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I got the general admission and exhibition ticket. Great displays and the 'How to train your dragon' exhibition was fun. Great view of the castle and the staff were very informative about the displays. The only downside was the restaurant which is in diah need of a make over. The... More

I was there on Tuesday afternoon where they did a buffet for 50 people and the food was amazing. Great friendly service from Linda, Tracy and Claire.

Wow. What an amazing place. So child orientated with lots of options to dress up in character costumes in each area. We were drawn in by a poster for the How to Train Your Dragon exhibition which was lots of fun. We ran out of time but did manage to have a look at the Silverdale hoard and some of... More

The museum is opposite the Castle and worth a visit. Rather a mixture of different eras, with a good Roman area in the basement and more on the first floor. There were also exhibition areas on Carlisle, border reivers and natural history plus a small area on the Vikings. The original museum now houses paintings and drawings from the romantic... More

We attended an afternoon conference relating to the Cumwhitton Viking Burials. There were 4 speakers all of whom gave excellent presentations with plenty of good illustrations. On completion we moved to the exhibition gallery where the speakers were on hand to explain and answer any queries we had. All in all a great afternoon

A very well laid out and interesting museum of local history. The exhibits on Roman Carlisle and the later Border Reivers were excellent.

Good for morning coffee and afternoon tea as well as lunch. Varied menu, fair portions of enjoyable food. No problem in providing gluten free options. Reasonably priced.

Huge amount on display. Obviously huge focus on the Romans. Lots of interesting displays including Hadrians Wall bricks, replica Roman army tent, Roman local finds including jewellery. There were also a lot of interactive sections including tracing out your name into Roman language. Lots of lovely paintings on display of the local area. There was also a section about the... More

Tullie House is a must if you visit Carlisle. The front is beautiful and the stairs are really worth a look. Both the new and the old museum have lovely tiles and staircases. There is also a café and you can go on ghost tour in the evening.

This is a lovely little museum, with lots to see but not lots of one thing. That is good, because the changing emphasis would keep everyone happy. Loved the Frontiers exhibition on the lower ground floor. Very clever juxtaposition of modern and old examples of the same issues. Then you can catch some wildlife stuff, and then some Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood... More
