About
High Woods Country Park is one of Colchester's beauty spots. The Country Park includes woodland, open spaces (ideal for picnics) a lake and wildflower meadows. Along with marshy areas, hayfields and scrubland, High Woods provides the right habitat for thousands of different birds and mammals. It's free for humans too. The Council's High Woods team looks after this gem throughout the year. Their welcoming approach to visitors and creative management of the park has lead to it holding the prestigious Green Flag Award since 2004. All in all, a place not to be missed by walkers, cyclists and families alike.

This is a really beautiful place with different landscapes. However, it is being ruined by selfish visitors who dump their rubbish everywhere. There was even a shopping trolley that had been dumped in the lake. In addition dog owners need to keep their dogs under control especially around the lake where they are supposed to be on a lead. The dog owners need to clean up the dog mess as this is a particular problem. Cyclists need to be considerate towards
people who are walking who have the right of way instead of cycling at speed and expecting people to get out of the way.

Me and my family always enjoy visiting high woods as there are many walks to do there. Big lake to have a picnic beside and play equipment for children. I would advise staff to mounter the children as for when I walked past, the rules were not followed. Brilliant visit.

I wasn't expecting this wood to be so big in a town of 200k people. There's a fantastic picnic area by the car park & visit centre. You can follow a choice of three walks ranging in distances or just follow paths & choose your own route. There are quite a few openings in the wood & around the outside is houses but once you get into the wood you could be anywhere. There is quite a nice lake hear to. Also by the car park is a small climbing wall & park. We were here for over three hours but could have been longer. I have never seen so many squirrels as I did in our visit to here. Will certainly be coming back next time in Essex.

Great for a walk with a dog, family or friends. Lots to explore and do including a park, lake and great picnic spots. I done a parkrun here and it was muddy but that was in February. Overall, a great green space with lots of activities.

We will def be visiting more. More then enough routes that you can return and not cover the same ground. There is a lake which is ideal for children and dog walkers. Plenty of places for a picnic spot if the weather is on your side.

Looking out of the lounge windows it was a great day, the dogs were chomping at the bit for a walk so we ended up here. You cannot feel the wind through the lounge window! It was very cold (not the parks fault, as I say, conned by the weather!)

You need to remember 50p for the carpark ~ not bad for a couple of hours enjoyment. All day costs £2. The shop also does tea or coffee from £1, that was a welcome warm-up.

There were a fair number of cars and quite a few folk around the children's area, but I soon escaped into almost solo walking.

They had been doing outdoor survival as there were a few "tents" of branches (not too waterproof!) and the woods themselves were great. I took some 360 images and they all came out well.

It's winter so you need winter boots ~ the fields near the lake was quite muddy ~ but the paths were fine and both dogs had a whale of a time.
