Boring and overpriced

I bought this through Groupon. Allegedly it should have been £80 for a two hour workshop, but was on offer through the above website for £24. When I looked on the company site it was being advertised at £28 as a Groupon event, with no mention of it ever having been £80, so I felt conned before I started. Even for £24 per person it was very poor. We started with a cup of hot chocolate (which I understand was very nice, though I didn't sample it, being full of cold) and then moved on to learning to temper chocolate. This was done using chocolate which had been microwaved and adding small pieces to bring it down to the correct temperature (one bowl between 4 people). We were told nothing about the quality or provenance of the chocolate we were using, and there was nothing I couldn't have learned through Youtube. We then poured the chocolate into moulds and put it in the fridge to cool and went onto a quiz. The quiz was basic, but we had been told nothing about chocolate or the process of bean - chocolate prior to doing the quiz, next we went through the quiz. Quite honestly, it was like being in a mediocre food tech lesson! Her daughter was helping out during the day, and on a couple of occasions I felt that she made belittling comments about her to the group, which I found mean and unnecessary. After the quiz was the 'Chocolate Tasting'. One couple had travelled about 50 miles just for this. I imagine they were sorely disappointed, as they got to taste Tesco's finest, green and Black's and Willy's Venezuelan Gold - nothing out of the ordinary or homemade. The session ended with decorating the chocolates we had poured earlier. The white chocolate particularly had not set properly and was still quite runny and decorating involved using melted chocolate to add sprinkles and bits of crystallized fruit: once again, nothing a child couldn't do. The business owner may be great at children's parties, but she definitely doesn't cater for adult groups. This event was sold as being suitable for budding chocolatiers, and run by a chocolatier, but as someone with only a very basic knowledge of chocolate I found it patronising, and frankly, dull.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you were unwell and unable to enjoy our event. Our events through Groupon are popular as a social learning event rather than our one to one technical class. YouTube and the internet always can be helpful and informative but hands on tasting and making can add to the experience with us for most people. We do sell the event at £80 all year but offer a discount when the Groupon class is running for any clients to bring a friend who missed out, at the same price as Groupon. I feel the comment on my parenting skills rather harsh. We often have clients who book a further intense class once they have been to our larger events for a taster. As you say we are especially popular with children parties and educational in events in school. Our Team building events run all over East Anglia and London.

Great fun for the kids - and me too!

My four children aged 6-13 all had a fabulous morning making chocolate pizzas and delicious rocky road pizza - they licked the bowls clean and had a fabulous time! My favourite was the fresh fruit chocolate fondue - bananas and strawberries dipped in the most divine dark chocolate! Mmmm!
We all learned a lot about the history of chocolate and the nutritional benefits of good quality chocolate too - something my children are happy to remind me of now whenever they want chocolate!
An excellent and different way to spend a morning for all the ages - and me too!

Very bad experience

We used the chocolate studio for a 7 year old girls birthday party and what a expensive mistake. If having a stand up argument in front of a group of children then making the girl who's birthday it is cry and accuse others of being greedy and leaving them in tears is what you want then this is the place to go!! Not to mention 30minutes with nothing to do at the end of the party and having to try and entertain 8 children because they got the times wrong.
I Have made contact with the owner of the business and she could not care less and has now stopped communication.

I was very sorry about this experience as I was not there that day. This client as with all others always pay a deposit to hold the day, which is refundable and then the balance on the day. They had the opportunity not to pay but was happy to do so. The full amount was requested to be returned by the client the following week.. I tried to meet with the father but he was unavailable and not willing to discuss on the phone. A part refund and part voucher was offered but rejected. It was a unfortunate experience.

What a fantastic 2 hours of chocolate indulgence ..... And we got to lick the bowl!

Jeanne arranged for myself, my son and my 2 niece to spend 2 hours in the studio making chocolate treats as a birthday surprise for my neice's 10th birthday. She was brilliant, so friendly and helpful, she let us all choose what we wanted to make and gave us the run of the place to get on with it. Jeanne talked to us about the best ways to heat chocolate, helping us with taking temperature etc. we went through the whole heating and cooling processes. 2 children made rocky road pizza, one made a chocolate fish and I made hand made chocolates. The studio has all of the ingredients that you could possibly was to use to add or decorate and then finished of beautifully in pizza boxes or cellophane with ribbons. All along the way we were allowed to dip our fingers in and she actively encouraged us to lick the bowls when we were finished. So much fun, just £10 per head and we took our items home with us. Jeanne said she also does classes, hen nights and drop in session. Thanks jeanne for such a fun, scrummy 2 hours.
