We visited as a group of six over 60’s who had never done an escape room before. We chose the Sherlock Holmes room. We were greeted enthusiastically and given a good low down on what to do, fire safety rules and a hint to set us off. The room was well set up and did not feel at all claustrophobic. There are cctv cameras and a screen in the room, in order you can signal if you require a clue in order to move on. The hour went very quickly! We all worked well together to find clues and open padlocks, leading to various further clues. Sadly, we didn’t quite complete our task within the hour but we weren’t too disheartened as we’d had a good time. Will definitely return to do another one.
One comment for improvement would be that some of the padlocks are small and very difficult to read the numbers, even with glasses and a phone torch!

Great entertainment for the family. Plenty of thinking needed! We did the "Escape the Sven Sea" as it was the only one accessible for my wife who is confined to a wheelchair. Unfortunately the door to the second room was not wide enough to let the chair through but everything was visible from the first room.

First time doing an escape room and what a great experience! So much fun and better than expected. Will be coming again to Colchester escape room to try the others! Staff were also so lovely and we’re very helpful during the escape with clues and cues. 100% recommend to anyone looking for their first escape room or experiences escapers.

Would not refund one of our party of four dropping out - which seemd petty as we would have secured the booking regardless of it it was 2 or 8 of us. Did give us a gift certificate. Which would be pretty useless if we were visiting Colchester!
Been many times before and all good fun. Pity they are so unreasonable about one person dropping out. Leaves a sour taste in the mouth and will try elsewhere. Vote with your feet and all that.

We recently took part in the new escape room, 8 Years Later. The first half of the escape room was very good, but the ending really let us down due to poor engagement from the escape room host. We needed one final code to hear the last clip which would have given us the clue to escape, which we could not find. When we asked for a clue a message came up saying 'OK one sec' and a few minutes later we were given the entire answer without a clue to why. When we inputted the code we were given the key to escape (which we did), but we had not finished all of the locks even though we were told the room is linear. When the escape host came in she explained that she had got it wrong and already thought we had the last clue which is why she gave us the answer, rather than trying to redirect us. This meant we missed out on the last part of the room, and the last audio clip explaining the whole reason why we were in the room. The room was good, but the host was awful and clearly not paying attention to what we did, which ruined the escape room for us.

Did ‘The Cabin’ few weeks ago, but was pretty disappointed. Just a whole load of poor quality padlocks that were impossible to see and some didn’t work. No indication of which clue did which lock and fairly rubbish / unimaginative ways of getting the numbers…. No physical or puzzle type codes. Did one in London today that was amazing by comparison for same cost

This is a really good escape rooms! We've completed the Sherlock Holmes and Harry Potter challenges(with a bit of help!) and really enjoyed both. We go as a family so ages stretch from 12 to 77 and everyone has a great time. I like the fact the rooms are quite big so you don't trip over each other, and the staff are very friendly. The challenges are hard but not impossibly difficult and really fun to solve.

Had a wonderful time with my family. 4 of us in the Sherlock room. With current Corona fears they made us feel safe and at ease with the amount of sanitising being done. Not to mention the staff were incredibly polite too.

We went as a family of three and had an excellent evening. We chose to escape from Witchcraft and Wizardry and found the premises/room excellently laid and clean with no covid worries, we had to wear a mask for the duration of the visit including the actual escape room.
John was our helper and he provided us with an excellent insight into the game and provided us wit helpful clues at the right time, we escaped in 42 minutes.
I believe new rooms have now been added and would thoroughly recommend a visit.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening at ESCAPE Colchester on 5/10/22 for 5 of us from work. We did the 221B Baker Street Escape and it was great fun. I would like to make an extra special mention to Rosie who hosted and oversaw us. She made the whole thing enjoyable and fun and her enthusiasm shone through - Thanks Rosie and ESCAPE Colchester for a great night and we escaped in 44 minutes !!! :-)

We went with a 12 year old and he loved it. I know a few of his friend's have had escape room parties so I should think he would enjoy it.
how much? what is the minimum time it takes? can a large group all get in? can we get discounts for large senior citizen group staying for short amount of time only?

HI Nicki , the cost varies from £20 each upto 4 players , then comes down to £16.50 a head for 6 or more , max of 6 players per room , we can take up to 24 players at one time split into 4 rooms . Not sure what you mean about only staying a short time , as the game sare an hour each .
