My husband and I spent a lovely weekend staying at Bashford Lodge at Quantock trekking, which included riding on Saturday and Sunday. Gill and the friendly staff took the time to match us with the right horse for our experience and confidence. My husband had had a lot of lessons but hadn't done much hacking, so they put him on a quiet safe mare, and I had done more hacking but lost my confidence, so they put me on two different, safe cobs. Saturday was a 5 hour pub ride with a stop for lunch in a pub where we were met by Gill and some staff, who tied up the horses and gave them hay nets while we eat lunch. I was very tired after three and a half hours so one of the staff rode my horse back and I got a lift, but my husband managed the whole 5 hours. I didn't feel I could do the 3 hour trek on the Sunday so my husband did 3 hours and I went on a separate 2 hour trek. The point of telling you is that they were very accommodating. One of the highlights of the weekend was watching the horses come down the hill for their breakfast, then back up the hill after their ride as they went past our balcony. Although the horses we rode were safe and calm, they were all very fit, and the Saturday ride had about 6 canters. Some of those cobs can really go! So if you are more experienced there is also plenty to enjoy, but equally, there are novice rides too. The horses were happy and healthy. The scenery is incredible and vary varied - you could see for miles on top of the hill and we met several wild ponies. I would definitely recommend Quantock trekking and hope we have the opportunity to return.

My daughter and I enjoyed a great ride here today. The staff were so friendly and the horses were lovely. They really looked after us. My daughter cantered for the first time properly-she is still smiling now. We would highly recommend riding here, and we will be back as soon as we can.

We spent a lovely couple of hours pony trekking on the Quantock hills. The terrain was varied, starting in the village and climbing to some stunning views at Will's Neck. The staff were all friendly and allocated horses/ ponies to suit different sizes and skills. Thoroughly recommended!

Bashford lodge is a fantastic place to stay. Accommodation was perfect for 6 adults plus a baby and the showers are very powerful. Gill and Dave are excellent hosts and very accommodating. We had a lovely cake on arrival which was a really lovely touch. Bashford lodge has everything you need for a week away, we barbecued every night and sat on the balcony admiring the fantastic views, you can see for miles You are lucky enough to see the horses walk down the lane each morning from the field to the stables. The stable girls were very friendly and we saw lots of groups go out over the week. Although we were not there for the trekking we did have one trip out which was great fun and we can see why people return. What a fantastic gem! Thank you for a fantastic stay.

I sent a email enquiry several weeks ago so i then proceeded to I call up over the phone only to met by an incredibly rude response by the man that answered the phone (15:13 on 6/7/2019). I had asked about if it was possible for me (a fairly experienced rider) and my boyfriend (a novice) to track together and if there would be any opportunity for me to canter - as i had done this with previous friends and family at other riding centres in the past. The man insinuated that i was being ridiculous and said “if you were actually a rider you would know that when one horse canters, the horse behind will follow”. This is true; for poorly trained horses, and i also implied that my boyfriend would be on a lead rope anyway. I only asked after reading previous reviews about mixed ability rides and how some people were “were encouraged to canter” despite also being novices. Even their website says they can cater to all abilities. I then asked about the ‘bespoke rides’ and the man said “yes that’s an option but that would be too expensive for you anyway’. Even though he had no idea how much i was willing to spend on a ride? He then abruptly said “you should look somewhere else” and hung up. Obviously I’m really disappointed and was so excited to go trekking in Quantock as it was my first time in Somerset and i thought it would be loads of fun, but now i am unable to :(
