My husband and I spent a lovely weekend staying at Bashford Lodge at Quantock trekking, which included riding on Saturday and Sunday. Gill and the friendly staff took the time to match us with the right horse for our experience and confidence. My husband had had a lot of lessons but hadn't done much hacking, so they put him on a quiet safe mare, and I had done more hacking but lost my confidence, so they put me on two different, safe cobs. Saturday was a 5 hour pub ride with a stop for lunch in a pub where we were met by Gill and some staff, who tied up the horses and gave them hay nets while we eat lunch. I was very tired after three and a half hours so one of the staff rode my horse back and I got a lift, but my husband managed the whole 5 hours. I didn't feel I could do the 3 hour trek on the Sunday so my husband did 3 hours and I went on a separate 2 hour trek. The point of telling you is that they were very accommodating.

One of the highlights of the weekend was watching the horses come down the hill for their breakfast, then back up the hill after their ride as they went past our balcony.

Although the horses we rode were safe and calm, they were all very fit, and the Saturday ride had about 6 canters. Some of those cobs can really go! So if you are more experienced there is also plenty to enjoy, but equally, there are novice rides too. The horses were happy and healthy.

The scenery is incredible and vary varied - you could see for miles on top of the hill and we met several wild ponies.

I would definitely recommend Quantock trekking and hope we have the opportunity to return.

I started riding at Quantock Trekking last November as a very nervous rider. I ride with my husband who is far more confident than I am. On our first ride we were both assessed on a slow ride by very experienced staff. All the horses are safe and well behaved with different levels of speed and ability to match the riders. Gradually we have progressed through the heard. Dave, Gill, Becky (the management) and all the lovely stable girls (especially cheeky little Emma) are amazing and have been so patient and supportive of my nervous nature, never once trying to push me or ever making me feel awkward about my nerves. I am now far more confident riding and am happy to tack and wash the horses down after a ride. I cannot believe in such a short time with their help and support I am now able to canter across the beautiful Quantocks, with routes that are always varied and never boring. Quantock Trekking is not only great for adults of all abilities, shapes and sizes but it is also brilliant for children starting to ride with lovely village walks on small ponies. Thank you all at Quantock Trekking for making our rides great fun, Sundays would not be the same without you. Also, Gill thank you for all the cake!

This is a trekking centre. If you are looking for a range of horses suited to different skill levels this is not the place for you. If you are looking for horses that know their job and are steady and safe to ride in wonderful scenery then this will fill the bill. Staff are not very interactive with clients and on the day I went out they stayed at the front of the ride leaving a youngster to bring up the rear. Horses were covered in mud from the knees down. Tack was in good order.

I sent a email enquiry several weeks ago so i then proceeded to I call up over the phone only to met by an incredibly rude response by the man that answered the phone (15:13 on 6/7/2019). I had asked about if it was possible for me (a fairly experienced rider) and my boyfriend (a novice) to track together and if there would be any opportunity for me to canter - as i had done this with previous friends and family at other riding centres in the past. The man insinuated that i was being ridiculous and said “if you were actually a rider you would know that when one horse canters, the horse behind will follow”. This is true; for poorly trained horses, and i also implied that my boyfriend would be on a lead rope anyway. I only asked after reading previous reviews about mixed ability rides and how some people were “were encouraged to canter” despite also being novices. Even their website says they can cater to all abilities. I then asked about the ‘bespoke rides’ and the man said “yes that’s an option but that would be too expensive for you anyway’. Even though he had no idea how much i was willing to spend on a ride? He then abruptly said “you should look somewhere else” and hung up.
Obviously I’m really disappointed and was so excited to go trekking in Quantock as it was my first time in Somerset and i thought it would be loads of fun, but now i am unable to :(

I ride here on a regular basis and I have already reviewed but needed to review again. I always ride Harry as he is my favourite!!!! When I first started I wanted to just trot and walk around the quantocks. Quantock trekking has helped me to get the confidence and now I canter and gallop as and when I can on the ride. I recently did a ride that had so many canters, it was amazing very fast and fun. The horses are amazing, fast and safe. I trust the horses and the instructors 100%. Thanks Becky and Dave!!! Over the weekend and holidays the centre have a group of young riders who help at the stable and on the rides. They are so well informed and a great laugh. All in all I would not change anything about this centre and keep everything crossed that it never closes. If in the area it is a most do!!! Horses, stables, instructors and scenery all amazing and breath-taking. Whether you are an absolute beginner, never sitting on a horse or an experience rider there is something for you!!!! I LOVE QUCNTOCK TREKKING!!!! THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!!

Never rode a horse before, found the whole experience thrilling. If you think "no way its just for girls", think again its a blast and you get an overwhelming buzz of how big and strong the horses are. Loved it well recommend to all. And the people there were great and so helpful. Would definetly come back.

Had a terrific three hour trek yesterday in the beautful Quantock hills. All virtual beginners, we were given horses that suited us individually. The staff were helpful, friendly and patient all the way. Their horses are all rescue horses and it was lovely to be with them for a short while. We were recommended to go to the Rising Sun pub next door where we had a delicious Sunday lunch. Would love to do it all again. A great day out!

Despite a very rude rider within our group, the staff made arrangements to ensure that we had a great ride across the most beautiful scenery on very happy, well kept horses. Thank you ladies!
