About
For over 1000 years, people have been gathering in this holy place to offer their prayers and praise to Almighty God. As they still do every day. It’s difficult to tell from a website, but here we are located right in the centre of the city, surrounded by shops and businesses, with people passing our doors as they go about their daily life. Many of those people stop by to light a candle, say a prayer, or spend a moment of stillness and calm.

Great food at reasonable prices

Friendly service in a cafe right in the centre of Wakefield. Lovely cakes and some decent options for lunch too. And there's some interesting artworks to look at whilst you're eating :o)

A surprise in the centre of town, and unexpectedly beautiful inside. Well worth a visit. Helpful guides.

Quaint Cathedral

A lovely building from the outside. Small to the majority of Cathedrals but everything well spaced out inside.
Well worth a visit.

History at its centre
Aug 2021 • Couples
The birds in the trees on the walkway up to the cathedral were so numerous it was like a biblical plague or had they gathered a welcoming committee to see the only two out of town visitors from The Hepworth that had bothered to visit the rest of the town?
The cathedral itself had a nice cafe situated beside it and it’s a lovely sanctuary inside the cathedral itself with some genuine history. A jewel at the centre of town to build a thriving community around. Fingers crossed for ya x

Little known Cathedral
Jun 2021
Wakefield Cathedral is probably not well known compared to say Liverpool, Ely, Salisbury but well worth a visit if in the city. Sadly sandwiched in between sixties shopping developments but dont overlook and go inside & take a look around
there is also the Cathedral cafe at the side -we went for lunch ver nice.

A lovely interesting church now a cathedral , bright, airy and superb glass lining the sides. There was a genuine sense of calm and spirituality.

Coffee in the cafe
Sep 2020 • Friends
Great place. The cathedral cafe is open, and Covid safe, lovely open peaceful spacious place, more tables than when I last visited, looks good. The coffee & food (breakfast and lunch -they close by 4) very reasonably priced considering how nice it is. It’s the the more modern bit of the building accessed via the gateway under the trees. I think you can get to it from inside the cathedral too. Looks like the shop element is on hold in favour of creating space for the cafe - but a few souvenirs available.

Worth a short visit

We were made welcome by a helper and there are some lovely features to see in here. There is nowhere to purchase photos or other souvenirs. Much is closed off at present because of Covid.

Beautiful space
Mar 2020
We visited just before the lockdown restrictions and it was beautiful. As with most cathedrals an oasis of peace in the middle of a busy city.

Beautiful building

Wakefield Cathedral is a beautiful cathedral and dominates the heart of Wakefield. I visited recently for the Wakefield Theatre trust Gala and we actually had a meal in the cathedral - it was gorgeous food in an amazing setting.
