For over 1000 years, people have been gathering in this holy place to offer their prayers and praise to Almighty God. As they still do every day. It’s difficult to tell from a website, but here we are located right in the centre of the city, surrounded by shops and businesses, with people passing our doors as they go about their daily life. Many of those people stop by to light a candle, say a prayer, or spend a moment of stillness and calm.

Is someone planting a friendly gene in the water of the good citizens of Wakefield? I walked up from an exceptional experience at the Hepworth gallery to the Cathedral: I was barely in before a volunteer approached me, shook my hand and said, ‘If no-one has said it to you yet, let me offer you a warm welcome to Wakefield... Situated in central Wakefield, nd having undergone recent refurbishments. Always a welcome, lots to see, encouraging for young & old. Musical recitals some lunchtimes.

We had visitors from Canada and took them to the cathedral. It was stunning from the outside but when we went in all the pews had been removed and individual chairs put in. It was such a shock they look awful and really detract from the beautiful interior.

Looking great after a total clean and reordering. Music and liturgy are always top-class. Always something interesting happening.

This is an ancient church and seat of the bishop. It has been recently reordered and the space is fantastic! The access is fantastic throughout. There is also a labyrinth next to the ancient font.

I knew this Cathedral 20 years ago when it was dark and fairly depressing. The recent work has transformed the Cathedral into a light and airy space of beauty that highlights the architectural features and exudes a sense of spiritual calm. The different areas of the Church are beautifully improved to enhance wonder and prayer - and provide flexibility for... More

I first visited Wakefield several years ago, to investigate the building stones that have been used to restore its various historic buildings - as part of project that I was undertaking at All Saints church in Pontefract – and this included a detailed inspection of the exterior of Wakefield Cathedral and a brief look at its interior. Having been used... More

Beautiful building and nicely sited in the centre of the city. Easily accessible. What an absolute shame the the pews have been replaced. The character of the cathedral has been ruined

We tried to visit on a Saturday afternoon on our first ever visit to Wakefield. The poor rating is because it was totally closed with no notices to explain opening hours or why it was closed. From the outside it looked beautiful. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice Wakefield town centre was.We parked at the mulstorey by Sainsburys which was a really...
