Best Panto I have ever seen
Went to the Panto last night. What a fabulous production. All actors were really good and Josh Benson was fantastic. What a talent and his stage set with the kids at the end was one of the best variety performances I have ever seen. Well done Darlo and well done the production company

    A fab theatre
A fantastic theatre, took the family for the pantomime which is the best panto in a few years! All staff were fantastic! queues at the bars were long (as expected on a busy night) but moved quickly with attentive and friendly bar staff. We were shown to our seats and had a fab view! Seats were comfortable and everyone had a brilliant time.

    Fantastical
We booked a tribute show and it was a fantastic night. The atmophere was electrical and lasted throughout with the crowd singing along to the songs. Great staff by the way friendly and helpful, and the theatre itself is stunning

    Beautiful Old Theatre
Beautiful old theatre. Been to see several shows recently. The staff are friendly and helpful. Not a bad selection of refreshments and you can order them ready for collection at the interval. We will definitely be back when we visit Darlington agin.

    A Night at the Opera
I was in Darlington on Business and always wanted to attend an Opera and La Traviata was on. From the moment I walked through the doors all the staff were friendly and helpful. I bought a drink from the first floor bar and relaxed until about 15 mins before the performance. Surprisingly for how busy it was the toilets were not overwhelmed which is a bonus.

Attended a performance of menopause the musical, show was excellent, theatre staff friendly and seats comfy. I would caution people to think carefully before choosing a seat with a restricted view, this could be a false economy. Our seats restricted view basically meant that We couldn’t see 25% of the stage, unfortunately most of the performance took part on this part of the stage.

Went to see Northern Soul Live recently at Hippodrome and it was a superb production. This was my first visit to revamped theatre and overall impressions were positive as old building needed freshening up. The building now flows better and there’s room to stand with a drink before show however the same slow service is still provided at the bars...somethings never change. I like the fact you can enter building without showing tickets at main door which always created queues previously but obviously you show them to enter seating areas. Overall this has improved the theatre and wil be a great benefit for town for years to come. Recommended!

Visited with my mum who will be 90 years of age in 2020. Enjoyed what was a great family show with something for everyone. Everyone was smiling as we left the theatre and as ever in a pantomime the best bits are when it goes wrong.
Staff all very helpful and the theatre is always a pleasure to attend.

Travelling from Hebburn Tyne and Wear to see Band of Gold - thinking hope this is worth the journey. We were not disappointed it was a fantastic show with a great cast. The Hippodrome itself was amazing. Old and new mixed in the right proportions -well done 👏👏. Plenty toilets, lifts and very well done. Parking was easy virtually across the road. Long way to go but well worth every mile we travelled. First class. 5 stars 👏👍 Just one little complaint and that was - not enough staff on the bar and coffee shop. Huge queues.

We went to see Buffy ReVamped, a one man show. The show itself was great, really enjoyed it. We went with friends as a birthday treat from them. We had a great view and the theatre has obviously had a lot of money spent on it. The end result is a lovely mix of old original features with modern practical additions and good up keep. When the show ended everyone was leaving on a high, all happy and a good night had by all. This is the end of what could have been a brilliant review. As the guests slowly filter out of the theatre in a happy long snake of people, My husband walked straight into a cast iron, solid staff side seat, attached to the wall. This was competely masked by he slow sea of guests leaving. The noise was horrendous of his knee cap striking solid metal. He just about fell to his knees and had to be helped to exit. He was literally in tears with the pain. Not one member of staff even asked what had happened. The result was he had to lie down in the back of our friends car for the journey home, luckily he didn't have to drive or we would have been stranded. He had three days off work until the swelling went down and he could move his knee again. I emailed the theatre to inform them of the health and safety issue and suggested signage on the wall to draw your attention to the hidden solid object, a foam cover for the end of night, or a staff member in front of it to avoid it happening again. I received a very curt reply to say, sorry and it would be reported. I had to chase the response from the health and safety visit and was told action was required and signage maybe a solution. As we live in a 'where there is blame there is a claim' culture, we really should have claimed for the actual physical pain and suffering my husband had to endure. However a lot of these venues rely on public funding to keep them open, so we are not really wanting to make a claim. However health and safety have made an advisement on what we brought to their attention and we feel the issue was very poorly handly by the thetre staff member when we contacted them. The theatre will have public liabilty insurance for such events, however all we received was a very curt, 'very sorry' this has happened. I would have expected at least a gift voucher for us to return to another show, to see that the issue has been addressed and there are measures in place to avoid it happening again. This incident brought a grown fit young man to tears, it could have been way worse had it been an elderly person. I feel the theatre did not care enough about my husbands injury of which we did send them photos as well. Poor show, quite literally and I have gone public not because of the original feature that caused the injury, but for the poor handling and attitude of the staff when alerted to it.

Visited here for the first time to see Menopause the Musical and had such an amazing night! Not been to here before so unsure what to expect but on arrival the place was very welcoming and had a good atmosphere. Staff were really friendly and helpful . We had heard that you could order drinks for half time before hand and so asked the staff how this was done and he was very helpful and advised us on the process. The actual seating area had a great feeling about it. It felt nice and cosy but with plenty of leg room in the seats. didnt feel squashed in. Plenty of room to move around and wave our arms about when the time came. The showing was so funny and smiled and laughed the whole way through it. Came out of the place wanting to go back again in the near future. Loved the evening and definitely recommend visiting here to see shows to anyone.

Myself and two friends had the pleasure of visiting the theatre on Thursday 28th July 2022 to see Boeing Boeing at 2pm.
The farce was excellent, so funny. Each and every member of the cast was very good . Unfortunately this was very poorly supported with many empty seats.
All I can say is it was the people of Darlington's loss.
Am excellent afternoon was had by all who attended.
On arrival we went up to the bar on the first floor.
I ordered a whisky and ice and my friends asked for two coffee's which were only sold downstairs. The lady who was serving very kindly offered to bring them up . I was so impressed with her ( unfortunately I didn't see her name) Very rarely do you get sevice like that anywhere nowadays. So a big thank you to her.

First time to the now hippodrome in probably 40yrs since it was the civic. Initial impressions were very good, nice modern looking, bright and airy with a bar on each floor. Great. However don't bank on going for a wee while you're there. The toilets are tiny, and in my opinion totally under cater for a full house in a 15 minute intermission,, the gents consisting of two urinals and one cubical I presume the same on each floor,, still not adequate,, queues were long and I ended up holding it to the end of the show which did hamper my enjoyment of the second half.

My next fly in the ointment was that with all the modern improvements to the hosting area the actual stage and audience areas I'm sure haven't been changed in the 40yrs since I was last there. Not particularly comfortable seats, and just about adequate legroom. It wouldn't stop me returning again but I definitely wouldn't have anything to drink pre show.

Hi Thank you for your review, I am sorry that you had problems accessing our facilities, since re-opening in 2017 after restoration we now have three blocks of additional toilets which are situated on each floor. Also additional toilets in the Upper circle and near the dress circle which gives us plenty of options for our audiences. Our staff would have been happy to assist in pointing you towards other facilities for you to visit so you did not have to wait. The restoration did include fully restoring the main auditorium, changing the seats and in many areas increasing the leg room; if you require additional leg room for future shows our Box office staff can advise. Kind regards Andy Hutchinson-Clish Visitor Experience Manager

Paid £30 a ticket for the Islands in the Stream tribute act for the worst evening’s act I’ve ever been to. It was clear that the Kenny Rogers act was a stand in and it seemed like he was brought out of retirement at short notice. He was forgetting his words, forgetting the set order, didn’t know when to sing and when Dolly should sing and was opening and sucking lozenges on stage. A young man sat in front of me left his seat twice in the first half and didn’t return for the second. It was embarrassingly bad. My reason for reviewing the venue about this act is that they did not inform us that there would be a stand in and, having written to complain, they have not responded. Poor management.

What a great theatre. It is the first time we have been there since the refurbishment and we went for two shows on successive nights.
The Saturday night was for the Soweto gospel choir as my wife is South African and the Sunday night was for the Pitmen Poets. Both excellent shows.
The staff were helpful and friendly as well
