About
Splashdown Waterpark is a great day out for family and friends. There’s something for everyone – from big kids to little ones – with some of the UK’s most exciting waterflumes. For the thrill-seekers, brave the Screamer with its sheer vertical drop. Plunge into darkness on the Black Thunder. And hold on to your pants as you shoot down the Spacebowl like a human pinball. Or if that sounds a bit like hard work, just go with the flow on the Mississippi Drifter. There’s the fabulous Little Buccaneers SplashZone with a starter flume, water play area and Buccaneer Bay, our toddler swimming pool. And, on a hot summer’s day, Buccaneer Beach is the perfect spot for a splash with the little ones. There’s even somewhere to play for little landlubbers. We’re open all year with indoor rides in the winter. In the spring, we take the slide outside where the Mississippi pours into the Grand Canyon. And, in May, bring on the awesome Screamer Tower – it’s fluming good fun! What are you waiting for?

So, the positives- The kids all had fun and enjoyed it. The staff all seemed nice and helpful.
It's £18 per person for a 3 hour session plus a refundable £3 on top for your wrist band. With 4 kids and 2 adults it's fairly expensive (to be fair there are other sessions on the website that are cheaper which are are different times of the day) However what let's this place down is overall cleanliness. The changing rooms were pretty grim. The first changing room we went into had a puddle of wee on the floor. The changing rooms are also very small and the whole area is too narrow to move around. Quite dirty overall, the floors were covered in mud and hair and generally grimy. The changing area could do with a complete refurb.

We are returning visitors after ~20 years with lots of fond memories from visits as teens and we weren’t disappointed! We visited during the summer holidays as a family of 2 adults and a 6 year old.

Our 6 year old loved it and confidently had a go at 8 of the slides with her favourite being Black Thunder. We took the advice online to take her with two adults so one could down first and this was particularly useful with the slides that come out into a deeper pool and the Mississippi Drifter as even though she can swim she is still relatively small at 1.15m. We did take some armbands but she didn’t feel the need to wear them.

The slides are fast and even the slide they recommend as a good starter slide the Red River Roller we thought was quite fast so I don’t think that every 6 year old would enjoy a visit here but ours had a great time and is asking to return! 2 hours was enough for her first time and as we arrived for an early booking it was relatively quiet initially so not much waiting.

If you are considering going with a younger child definitely consider if they are ready for the fast slides here and perhaps try out another pool with a slide before going to Splashdown so you know your child will get on with it.

so we came to this establishment seeing as it was coming to the end of the summer. it was my mother, myself, and my two teenage brothers who attended. however, despite being told the numbers were extremely limited and it was online booking only (which we thought would mean it would be a lot quieter and safer), there were almost 200 guests filling the small space, and because of the colder weather outside everyone resorted to hogging the indoor area. social distancing was non-existent - we had a group of loud, obnoxious teenage boys behind us in the queue a few times and they wouldn’t observe the social distancing guidelines, and when this was mentioned to the lady working at the top of the ride we were simply told to “move forward”, and nothing was said to the boys. the rides are fun and there’s a lot for everyone but it was really not ideal seeing as the virus is still apparent and nothing is being done to support or help this. if we visited during “limited numbers”, i’d hate to come during peak times where capacity is full. poorly managed but relatively clean establishment.

Pros: kids had fun (particularly our 8 & 6 year olds)

Cons: expensive (for our family of 5 we paid £20 for each of the older 2 kids, £20 for both adults & £8.50 for our 2 year old, so £88.50 total, though you get £3 back for each wristband; £12 returned, so £76.50 net)

We only realised afterwards that we should have bought 2 under 5 tickets for £8.50 to save £8.50 (as the accompanying adult can’t go on rides as they are watching the kids, but the website wasn’t clear at all), explained to reception but couldn’t do a refund for the difference apparently.

Place is a bit tired with paint peeling and rust in a lot of places, wear and tear (particularly for the high price, you’d expect it to be immaculate), etc.

Under 7s areas are disappointing, with only a 1m pool (too deep for our 2 year old and no slides or anything) and a smallish area with a couple of small slides and some water cannons, etc. Not enough to stay entertained for 3 hours while the others are on the slides, could use a decent sized pool for over 7s too, as flumes get a bit samey after a while.

Outside slides were shut which wasn’t clear when booking, so about 1/3 of the slides unavailable and we got through the ones that were open fairly quickly (suggest 2 hours probably best for most, as we did 3 and it dragged a bit)

Staff mostly young people that aren’t particularly enthusiastic, but not unpleasant either.

Wouldn’t go again unless they had an offer on, as I’d say the experience was worth roughly half what we paid.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. Whilst we realise we aren't the cheapest day out, we do hope to offer value for money and have to charge what we do in order to run a sustainable business. We are situated on a premium leisure complex with large overheads. I am sorry you didn't feel the information was clear. We have large portions of information about visiting with under 5's on our website on both the tickets page and visiting info which explains this. I will look into how to make this clearer. Likewise, on our explore the park page all rides that are shut are marked on the key with a * and the dates of opening are stated at the top of the slide guide. Again I will look into how we can make this even clearer and pass your comments onto the team.

Having arrived at the premises at 1000hrs, my wife, daughter and I were eager to explore, unfortunately the outdoor area was closed and due to the increased number of customers due to being school holidays our excitement turned to frustration.
As a family we only managed two rides by 1100hrs and by which stage my wife gave-up and opted to leave and remain in the cafe area. I took my daughter on what was to be our third and final slide having waited 40 minutes.
I spoke to the duty manager at approximately 1145 near the entrance and explained the situation. He could only offer to reimburse a sum of £5 per person due to the closure of the outdoor area, however having paid £54 for 2 adults and 1 child, I felt it inadequate to accept and requested a full refund and was advised that this would need to be done via email.
Sent an email to 'ticket admin' with what appeared to be a standard response offering £5 for the closure of outdoor slides plus an additional £2.50 each (difference between a 2 hour session and a 3 hour session that I paid for).

Stay clear of this place, completely ruined our family day out on holiday.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. I am sorry you didn't enjoy your visit, I would like to clarify, the outdoor tower was not closed due to an increased number of customers. We had a pipe malfunction and the rides were not in operation, hence why all guests have been offered a £5pp refund for that day. This was totally out of our control. We are still running at reduced capacities as we have found this offers a better experience for our customers. What you have described is the opposite from what we have experienced on site and had great feedback about. However, I do appreciate the outdoor tower closing would have had a knock on effect with the visitor numbers inside, but as stated, this was out of our control. I believe the offer of £7.50pp refund from our ticket admin team was a fair offer. I will pass your comments and feedback onto the management team.

I took my 9 Yr old here today for his first ever visit after promising him for some time we'd go. I felt so sad for him because it was a terrible trip for so many reasons...

Firstly I arrived before 11am to take advantage of the "early bird" prices only to be charged an extra £6 for wrist bands. Admittedly these were refunded upon handing them back at the end your visit but I didn't see this advertised anywhere on the website or on signage in the reception area. There are some families that may not have been able to afford this extra fee, depending on the size of their party so a bit cheeky really.

Then there's the changing rooms. They were overall dirty. I didn't see one member of staff dedicated to washing down and cleaning the floors and fittings, something that I see many other swimming pools in the area having. When you consider the sheer volume of footfall there is on school holidays I'd see this as an essential role that MUST be considered by management.

Then there was the waiting. Oh the waiting. Yes I understand I visited during half term and yes I understand that it was going to be busy. But in the 2 hours that I paid for we managed only 4 slides. Now, bearing in mind the slides last for approximately 10 seconds a time, that alone should tell you how long we spent queuing otherwise. There were even queues merging with other queues where there was such a lack of space for everyone.

And you can forget showering afterwards too. There were approx. 10 communal showers prior to re-entering the changing rooms and NONE of them worked. To say they dribbled lukewarm water is being kind and many parents were disgusted and said as much.

In my opinion, this place is overpriced but if standing in a queue, shivering and dealing with bored children is your thing, then go. Management should consider that during school holidays admission should be based on pre-booking a time slot (of say, 2.5 hours) and there should be a limited number of visitors allowed per time slot. Not only do I think this is better for Health and safety but it gives customers a fighting chance of getting on every slide and therefore we get value for money.

Thank you for leaving us a review, I am sorry you didn’t have the visit you were expecting. The £3 refundable deposit is well advertised I am sorry you missed this. I am not sure how that we could make this any clearer as it appears in all our literature, website and point of sale, including our online ticket purchasing portal and website. I would like to reassure you, we do have a dedicated member of staff for the changing rooms. Sometimes it can be a very arduous task to keep on top of due to the volume of people, but we do try our best to keep on top of this area and it is given priority at busy times. I am sorry if you felt it wasn’t as it should be on your visit. We have had some issues with the showers and despite our efforts they weren’t as effective as they could have been. They have been under repair and review. You visited on one of the busiest days of the half term, health and safety is of paramount importance to us, we have a building capacity I would like to reassure you that we are careful to keep within the parameters to ensure safety. There are timed visit sessions in operation during peak times.

We visited at the start of the school holidays and the park was dangerously crowded. I’m not specifically referring to social distancing for COVID-19 (although scarily there was none) but dangerous overcrowding on the slides and rapids making it a battle to stay afloat and breathe at times.

The wristbands are supposed to ensure riders only go on green when the previous person has cleared the ride - however the tags on many rides weren’t working and people were just going down one after the other with no gap . The lifeguards either didn’t notice or just let it happen.

The worst was Mississippi Drifter where it was so overcrowded that you could barely see the water at times - it was full of people on yellow rubber tyres. It made it very disconcerting and dangerous as you got pushed and forced down the rapids by others bashing into you and if you became unseated from your tyre then it was very hard to get on again as there were so many people rushing past you.

Many of the rides were unsuitable for any but the most confident of swimmers. Even some of the so called Easy rides had so much gushing / squirting water you went down so fast and could barely breathe as the water completely engulfed you. Several children were very scared and crying when they got off.

Whilst I appreciate they may not have had much income for a while it was a shame that they had not invested in the facilities during lockdown. It was very outdated and could do with a complete overhaul and tidy up.

Signage was also really unclear inside so we had to ask the lifeguards where some of the rides were as it were not enough signs.

It was disappointing as we’d come to celebrate a birthday. We made the best of it but I must admit it was the most unsafe feeling water park I have ever visited.

So I read a lot of reviews before returning here after 5 years or so, and nearly didn't book due to negative reviews left recently. Most were covid related. Now call me crazy but if you're worried about covid after hopefully having 2 jabs, and with virtually no serious cases amongst young, then is it really a good idea to book a visit to a waterpark with obvious problems regarding social distancing etc?
What do these keyboard warriors expect? to be in a park with only 50 capacity? or huge gaps between one person and the next when queuing for everything from getting in, lockers and slides? Do these people really believe it's economically viable for such measures? I saw some wearing masks queuing outside, then inside, before hopefully, obviously having to take them off once changed. Really? The same people no doubt complaining.
Others complained about looking run down, a tad maybe, but name one place that doesn't after going through economical struggles the last couple of years?
Trust me I am the first in line to complain if needed, but if I can work out what to expect from a place such as Splashdown and look at the positives of which there are plenty over the negatives, then why can't others? 1st world problems people.

Recently took my grandchildren aged 10 and 11 for their first visit. They had a great time, despite it being really busy. Downside was the amount of people in the changing room, which has narrow access between rows of lockers, so caused blockages at busy times.

My only criticism is of the cafe and seating area for spectators/those not using the pool.

The seating is functional but not comfortable. Some of the tables and chairs are too close to the poolside, leaving people wet when adults or over weight people use the high drop flumes. We got soaked several times!

The variety of food available is appalling! Hot dogs, pasties, limited choice of crisps and a few mega-high calorie muffins. Absolutely nothing else - and the prices are extortionate for what you get! It is forbidden to take your own food, so don't go on an empty stomach.

For a couple of hours this is a fun place to visit, but due to the basic facilities of the cafe and only a couple of toilets available for so many people, I would not recommend an all day visit.

Thank you for leaving us a review. I am sorry you got wet, the blinds should be covering the drop to stop this from happening. We have tried a greater variety of food in the past, including healthier options, however they did not sell – the majority of people visiting were only interested in the ‘fast food’ options. If you have an all day/prime time ticket, we do not preclude you from exiting and coming back, which gives people the option to eat elsewhere.

We arrived as a party of two seniors, two adults and a five year old.
One senior stayed in the cafe while the rest of us hit the slides!
The layout is a bit confusing but once you find a map board and do some exploring, it soon becomes clear what to do and where to go. Our little boy ( 5 ) was too scared to try any of the slides, the wife and I did and were both frightened by the 'easy' Red River Roller! The three kids areas are good but in need of some TLC, however, all the children we saw were having a great time.

If you have kids aged 8-12 they will have a fantastic time

The changing areas are OK but as some reviews have pointed out, it is a bit cramped when busy, difficult to keep clean and in need a some TLC.
The staff were fine, friendly enough and helped us to get our stuff back when Daddy lost a key to one of the lockers ( my bad )
Some of the lifeguards did look a bit glum, perhaps if they could move around to different sections to try and keep them from getting bored it might help ( say changing sections every hour on rotation? )
We didn't eat in the cafe and the free coffee given to the senior spectator wasn't very nice.
Overall, we had a great time and would visit again when our little boy is older and can swim better.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback, I am glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. I will pass your comments onto the management team to review. In response to our staff rotation, that is exactly what happens. Our staff rotate stations every hour, their primary job is to focus on their area and ensure our guests safety. We do appreciate it isn't the most fun, and can look boring.
