Decent Regional Theatre
Aug 2020
The Gordon Craig Theatre is not in fact named after a man whose first name is Gordon. It is in face named after Edward Gordon Craig who was from the local area and I believe he was involved in set design.

The theatre is fairly disability friendly with the entrance being wheelchair accessible via a lift and there are areas set aside for parties with disabled members but make sure you book!

Unfortunately there a no events currently taking place due to the COVID-19 pandemic but in the past they have had a wide variety of events including plays, comedians, ballet and bands. They also have an excellent pantomine which I regularly visit with my friends.

Looking forward to seeing it reopen.

Comfortable venue
Feb 2020 • Couples
Well placed theatre, friendly staff, quite comfortable seating. Decent size theatre, not too small and a good viewpoint for The Paul Carack concert! Parked in the Market Car park, a 5 minute walk but saved queuing coming out of the closer car parks after the show as it was all but empty.

A Poor Nights entertaining
Mar 2020 • Couples
We first decided to eat in the so allied Bistro....I had a few good things about it. The floor, tables, chairs and cutlery were good.
It would help if they washed the walls, or didn’t have staff dressed as if they had just been teaching in the Gym, or even new how to serve at a table. The food was awful. The couple next to us ordered a pie with puff pastry. It came uncooked and raw. Basically it was a school canteen... no better then that. As for the show, well that was very average, but the Theatre can’t be blamed for that. I wasn’t a good experience at all. If you want to go their for a show, my advice is eat somewhere else first.

Good show, terrible seating
Feb 2020
We met our friends and had a drink at the bar first, for some reason they have a big red wheeley bin in the middle of the floor, and the bar staff take great pride in throwing empty glass bottles in, from a height, every few seconds, the noise is terrible.

We then proceeded to the Paul Carrack show in the ground floor theatre. The seating was so cramped and uncomfortably hard that our party had to leave before the finish, as we were all in great pain from the seating. In the past we have been lucky enough to be in the upstairs theatre , therefore we will not book anything else unless it is in the upstairs theatre. And will give the bar a miss too. Such a shame as the entertainment was good.

The Chicago Blues Brothers

Nice, good value pre-dinner meal at the Bistro, this is a lovely, smallish Theatre, with comfortable/roomy seating and good views of the performance. The show itself was very disappointing however, So loud that I had to remove my hearing aids. The two lady singers seemed to be competing with each other volume wise, and the louder they became the lower the quality of their voices seemed to get. Elwood's voice was very poor and he was the weak link as Jake was very good and had a powerful yet melodic voice.
The band were excellent if l little 'over the top' and the whole team all worked hard.At £26 per ticket though it was quite expensive for what it was and not really for me, I'm afraid.

A good time at Gordon Craig
Dec 2019
The Gordon Craig theatre is a wonderful place, where I often go in its clean, comfortable and elegant cafe-restaurant for a bite to eat before work. It's meals are always well done and reasonably priced. I will often read a book or do writing on my laptop as it's very spacious.
I have been to many performances there including Michael Jackson and ABBA look alike acts. And have enjoyed them all.
I went to to their pantomime in December and find it funny every year. Its not just for kids, as I believe the humour is aimed at adults too,

Been to Stevenage panto since our children and grandchildren were, eh, children. Now in our 70s we rate Beauty and the Beast among the best ever. From choreography to special effects it's superb. Great to see a smartphone generation laughing at the traditional routines. That's what is great about pantos - they embrace all ages.
The Gordon Craig Theatre, too, is an excellent venue. Unbelievable to think that under the Stevenage Regeneration plan it was scheduled for demolition to be replaced with shops.

Panto time at Gordon Craig
Jan 2020 • Family
Went to see Beauty and the Beast on Saturday 4th January and we were very impressed. Small theatre as not an old building but views were great and plenty of legroom.

Panto was amazing and well above what I was expecting so thanks to all involved. My family included 2 and 5 year old, us and my pensioner parents. All loved it and parents had plenty of leaflets to book up and see some more shows/acts in 2020
