I don't know if it's indicative of Ipswich but it's interesting that the two best pubs in town are slightly out of town (the Woolpack being the other). There is a wide range of beers on offer here and plenty of different rooms to sample them in. Some are produced on site whilst others are drafted in and the choice... More

Established for twenty years as a loca l drinking mecca, this pub is a must visit when in town. The bar always features about 12 to 14 real ales (sometimes more) plus ciders and bottled beers. It has been the local CAMRA pub of the year on many occasions and includes a pretty secluded garden to the rear of premises.... More

Wonderful real ales and country wines, lunchtime food is good especially the gigantic scotch eggs. Evenings during the week you can have take away delivered plates and cutlery are provided an excellent idea, staff are friendly the atmosphere is really relaxed a great place to meet friends and chat.

All over Suffolk and indeed further afield pubs are struggling and closing down before being turned into housing. But it doesn't have to be this way if you know what you are doing and by gum The Fat Cat has discovered a winning if simple formula that should be replicated everywhere. The pub whilst small is perfectly formed with very... More

The Fat Cat is a wonderfully friendly, very busy, local pub....that people travel across town to........ They have a good range of real ales, which could rotate quicker, but you'll always find something you like. You can order take-away in too, they'll provide plates etc and do the washing up :-)

Found this pub by random as not from the area, glad we did though! Great staff, we were served by Ross who was such a nice guy and a real character, very friendly, accommodating and provided us with a few laughs and excellent service, it was clear he was a "locals" favourite as well! Atmosphere was very traditional, brilliant selection... More

There's not much more to say really, if you like good beer, you'll like the Cat. You can even bring your own take away & use their plates etc, just not on the busy Fri & Sat nights.
