beer and more beer

this is the best "proper beer" house in the local area- different types and you can try them before buying - they brew their own and the pub is a great place to socialise.

We cycled to Ipswich and stayed a bit out of town. Cycled into Ipswich for the evening and St Judes was recommended. We asked where we could park the bikes and the (excellent) barmaid just said - "we're quiet tonight, leave 'em in the bar?". So we did and spent the evening there. Great beer, excellent music and they let... More

My husband And I used to visit on a Saturday, after shopping, however, the last 2 times, were horrible, very drunk people at the bar yelling and shouting,No effort by the bar staff to get them to tone it down.Good ales.and not expensive, but I wont be going back unless the unruly disruptive "customers" are dealt with.Such a shame!

If you like real ale this is the place to go. Please don't be put off by the old spit and sawdust look it is a proper drinking mans pub with a great range of real ales and ciders. Lager and spirits are available if you are that way inclined. Such a friendly atmosphere made to feel very welcome on... More

Great little pub. Super atmosphere. Interesting spooky decor, but unpretentious with it. Very much a real ale drinkers' pub, in other words people with taste! But everyone can feel welcome in this friendly pub.

I was working for a month in Ipswich. I'm glad I discovered this pub early on and went there several times. Have a meal elsewhere as this pub is not for eaters, it's for drinkers who appreciate a good selection of very good beers. As such it is brilliant with a blackboard displaying all the 20 or so available beers.... More

Negative reviews are by bigots. This is the only pub in Ipswich that welcomes everybody regardless of background. Everyone is friendly and the beer is served on gravity. Highly recommend if you visit for football, etc.

ales poured straight from the barrel. Good prices. Away fan friendly for the football. Beers tasted ok but the visit wasn't as enjoyable as last season

I discovered this ale house a couple of years ago and have enjoyed many an afternoon in here before attending football matches. In my opinion more bars should be like this you can enjoy the banter and jokes or just sit quietly and enjoy the beer, it's up to you.

Around eight pm and fancied a jug of good ale, but the bar was lined with drunks, clearly "regulars". A patronising attitude from whomever it was who was behind the bar made up my mind. Not my idea of fun listening to stale sexist and xenophobic jokes from a line of artists that regards it as their exclusive territory. Good... More
