We loved it all!!! So much ‘stuff’ to look at. We must have done about 10 circuits of the museum and found something different to look at each time. Who knew that looking at old petrol pumps could be so exciting!!!

Great examples of local transport

Some great vehicles here, really well restored. Loads of history from fire engines and electric cars to prams and penny farthings, Thomas the tank on a model railway and big cranes. Really enjoyable and some very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Trams
Jan 2020
The onsite volunteers are really friendly and did an amazing job to restore the vehicles. While looking at the vehicles, one of the volunteers even asked us if we were interested to have a tour of one of the trams.

We were told the entire history of the tram and how it worked back in the day.

Totally recommend doing a visit as it gives you an idea how the transport in Ipswich used to work.

Bloody brilliant

Superb museum in a massive hangar. Buses, trams, motorbikes, a model railway (watch out for the quirky cartoon characters who change all the time) - friendly staff, buses you can get on, and a nice little tea shop. Really fascinating. They do sometimes have a number of buses etc working - very well worth the effort to find out and go on one of those days.

highlight of my trip
Oct 2019
This was the highlight of my trip to Ipswich. I can not begin to tell you the enjoyment this place gave me. Yes I’ve been to many transport museums, but this museum along with the restoration work inside the vehicles was exemplary. You hear people say that its better than when it came out of the factory, but wow, the interior of these vehicles was just sublime, truly breath-taking, a real merit of the workmanship that has gone into preservation. The history of the lawnmowers from a massive factory to a small plot of land today made for a great video on the way in. I can not recommend this place enough. There is a cafe in the museum for teas and sandwiches. The person in the cafe looks a happy chappy.

the enthusiasts have spent a great deal of time restoring vehicles to near perfect condition, most of the vehicles are capable of running and are taken out for special events.
