- M. CLillestrom, Norway49 contributionsEastbourne - the preferred East Sussex place to stay.Eastbourne was a very pleasant place. The promenade is fantastic, reminds me of a south Europe riviera. Everything is clean, painted and in order. The walk to Beechy Head - Birlington Gap - East Dean was spectacular. For a senior couple Eastbourne is just perfect for a long weekend. Brighton may have much more to offer in the way of nightlife and entertainement, but it totally lacks the charm of Eastbourne.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 4, 2024
- Roving ChesterOxford, United Kingdom231 contributionsGREAT VIEWS AND BRACING AIRUnlike some, it still exists, so that's a plus. But in all honesty it's pretty shabby, the walk to the end rewarded by not much more than a trinket and souvenir shop. Having said that, if the weather's nice, why not? At least you get great views and bracing air. If only someone would throw some money at this Victorian relic, it could be a major asset to the area.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 26, 2024
- Clarevs2018Chelmsford, United Kingdom77 contributionsPast its hey day unfortunatelyHistoric pier, but now shabby and rather tun down. Apart from glass shop, mainly cheap souvenirs and sweets on sale. Tea room looked OK and the views are nice. It could be so much better.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 18, 2024
- ClaireCarysMaidstone, United Kingdom68 contributionsBeautiful pier, shame it closes early.Beautiful old pier. Arcades are perfect for kids. Donut and ice cream kiosk at the front is good. Pub right at the back is also good and has outside seating so you can overlook the sea. However, everything most things shut at 7 and the others shut at 8 pm. Expected it to be open a bit later during the Summer holidays as there is still a lot of footfall around the area at that time. The stalls outside the pier also shut at around 6. People still seem to be around the beach area well into the evening, so seems a missed opportunity to not have things open for another hour or soVisited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 22, 2024

Great fish and chip restaurant as you go onto the pier and lots of slot machine amusements for young and old alike. There is an abservatory at the top, which if you pay you can visit and see the pier at a different angle. It has been on the pier for years.

The pier is a beautiful structure and impressive to look at. Unfortunately at the end of October, many of the pavilions were empty and to let. The Victoria tea room looked popular and the Drop in the Ocean at the end of the pier was offering 'live entertainment' with music blaring out.
There were a couple of gift souvenir shops, a glass studio, candy shop and 'new age' Crystals and Candles. One of the smaller pavilions did have slot machines, but apart from that, there was only the booth with Zoltar speaking your fortune for £1.
I enjoyed a walk down the pier - it certainly blew away the cobwebs and there are good views of Eastbourne and the prom from it.
When opened it cost 1d to walk down it. Now it is free!

We had an absolutely brilliant afternoon on Eastbourne Pier. We found ourselves at the music venue at the end of the pier called Drop In The Ocean. They had a band playing in the afternoon which was absolutely brilliant, people where up dancing and singing, and the atmosphere was fab. We ended up staying for the evening to, grabbing some food and listening to the band inside for the evening to. The pier is lovely, it as the usual arcades but it feels more Victorian than any of the other piers on the coast in the Sussex area. It is well maintained, has shops, food of course the music venue at the end. This is now my favourite go to pier and we will be back. Take the time to look at the pier from the beach to, its very beautiful.
We walked past the following morning and there seemed to be a steam punk gathering and even people playing bagpipes, I get the feeling there is always something to see and do on Eastbourne Pier
The pier is wheel chair and buggy friendly

Squeezed past crowd of unmasked, non-socially distanced bus tour passengers waiting in the entrance. Next is a building site for new glass boxes - assume for shops/food/amusement outlets - no explanation or apologies for our appearance or coming soon announcements visible.
Glass blowing and sweet/fudge/rock shop still there and afternoon tea & fish and chip cafe looked ok (wrong time of day to test out)
Amusement arcade has all the usual 2p/10p shove and pick a toy machines but was smaller, noisier, cramped and darker than I remember.
Finally the actual end of the pier is inaccessible to anyone but the fishermen who seem to have the monopoly on the view.
Given it is July and the school holidays start next week, they have missed the boat if building work is not completed quickly.
All a bit disappointing really.

Our visit was very early in the year when most of the shops, etc on the pier were closed but, as it was a sunny day, we still went for the walk. It was well worth, not only to look at the architecture of the pier itself but also for the magnificent views along the shore and back to the town. We even stopped for a while to watch some hardy fishermen (in their own reserved part) braving the cold. It was so cold that even the seagulls had not thought it worth the effort to fly away and just stood and watched as you approached. Unfortunately, but I can understand why, dogs are not allowed.

I took a glass sculpture that was broken (actually bought from here about 20 years ago) to hopefully be repaired, not knowing if they did repairs. Well they do & I was over the moon with the results, it was a special gift from my daughter & is treasured. I was only charged £5 which was amazing. He has such amazing glass sculptures which make wonderful gifts. Highly recommended.

Firstly I was pleasantly surprised that there was no entrance fee to the pier , I know lots of piers charge. There appears to be a lot of new retail units being installed . I’m sure they would make ideal restaurant’s or shops . Plenty of seating . There’s arcades , shop s & food outlets . The glass shop was really good & they also do demonstrations of glass blowing
There’s fishing at the end of the pier & a tackle shop to boot .
All credit they are trying to improve the pier & goodluck to them

We really enjoyed a leisurely stroll along the pier looking at all the different shops and cafes along the way. It had a Victorian tearoom which looked very inviting and a bar at the end which had live music in the open air when we were passing. There is plenty of seating for you to spend time relaxing and enjoying the views or to people watch. There is no charge to get on the pier so even better.

We had a fish and chip lunch on a sunny Monday in February at Drop in the Ocean on the pier.
Friendly staff, comfortable and clean seating, very tasty food and plenty of condiments.
There was an offer on the food - two main meals for £16 which was very good value. We had three lots of freshly battered fish and one ham, egg and chips. The food was excellent. We all had a drink from the bar too.
Old fashioned but very clean toilets.
Recommended when in Eastbourne.

Was picking someone up from village close by so took opportunity to visit Eastbourne for first time. Walked right around the pier. Workers were painting and restoring the lovely pier lights and the domes looked sparkling gold. Sad so many retail facilities we empty and up for rent.

Hi,
I know this might sound really random, but I'm currently researching for a novel i'm writing that's set in Eastbourne and wondered if you could tell me the name of the arcades on the pier? My character is going to go to them. I grew up in Eastbourne but am not able to go back there right now because of the travel costs so any help would be great!
Thank you,
Callen

I don’t think so. There’s fish & chips, icecream & a tea room though

My dog is my whole family why is he not allowed on the pier? It means I am unable to visit this pier.
Written November 9, 2016
Hi Avril. Dogs have never been allowed on Eastbourne Pier even before the fire and the new owner took over. I think in part it's because many owners didn't pick up the 'accidents' and dog piddle isn't too nice when there's lots of it.

Is it still possible to fish from Eastbourne Pier since the fire?
Written November 16, 2015
I would say that you are still able to fish from the pier but most of the fishing I saw was from the beach to the left of the pier about half a mile down the road this also gives you room to park your car and you are no the beach in seconds
