Travelled a lot. Without a doubt this is the nicest beach ever visited. Shallow waters, white clean sand, great for snorkelling. Certainly not overcrowded (like dover beach from cruise ships). Simply best beach ever. Only criticism is no public toilets.

Another stunning stretch of sand and green / blue waters. There is a beach bar ( not sure of opening hours) and loos ( close at 5pm). Payne’s Bay is big - so this is a review of the area next to the Cliff restaurant....More

Clean, safe beach. Very calm at east end of the beach. Sand was great and the beach was not overly crowded.

Paynes Bay Beach is simply lovely. Fine sand and calm, warm waters make it great for lazing in the sea. Also great for children and babies.

After visiting the south (Accra), I now appreciate how fabulous Payne’s Bay is. Quiet beach, calm beach for swimming, sea turtles off the beach. No comparison. I don’t even know why you’d go south if you could see it here at Payne’s.

We went to countless beaches during our week in Barbados and this was our favorite. Calm clear blue water with nice beach. Chairs for rent. Close walk to tent with food and drinks for sale (cash only). Five minute walk to gas station where ATM...More

In the past 8 years, we've spent several weeks at a rented house on Payne's Bay Beach. It's a big glorious public beach. Even when the cruise ships are in and there are crowds on the beach, it isn't overly crowded (though it can get...More

Sand that's white and soft as sugar. A wonderful place to pull up a chaise and soak in the sun. You'll love it!

Have looked at many of the beaches between Speightstown and Sandy Lane and this is the best. Wide, lots of loungers and shade available (for a price). Main drawback is the only bar on the beach, the Gazebo, which is not great but there are...More

Hi Harry There is no easy answer. Barbados is beautiful although during our last visit the beaches anywhere on island have been hit hard by tidal erosion. Do your research Careful research. Hopefully you won't be... More

We didn’t stay at the Tamarind, but we walked the sandy beach and found it to be narrow and non-existent in places, especially at high tide. It doesn’t sound like it’s improved since your visit.

How long a drive (taxi/bus) from Casuarina to Paynes Bay? (4 Replies)
Any idea how long a drive it would be, either by taxi or bus if possible, from Casuarina Beach Resort to Paynes Bay beach? Don't want to rent a car, so an idea of the price for taxi/bus would be appreciated as well.

The buses are only $1 US or $2 BB per ride. All you would have to do is walk out to the main road and get on a bus heading west towards Bridgetown...not sure if you would have to transfer buses at Bridgetown or not...you can just ask locally about that. Time wise from the Casuarina to Paynes Bay...30 minutes approx depending on time of day...it's not far. You can get to many spots and tourist attractions by bus so if you want to save your travel dollars for other things use the bus as much as...More

Paynes Bay Beach question (at Old Trees) (2 Replies)
We are meeting up with some friends in Barbados. We are most likely staying in Speightstown area at Schooner Bay. We just found out they are staying at Paynes Bay Beach. (Old Trees which we, too were actually considering). Which beach would you recommend we spend the beach day with them, ours or theirs? We are pretty certain the beach at Schooner Bay near ST is going to be quiet, BUT we would be closer to somewhere for dinner by meeting them at their beach and villa for the day and going...More

Why don't you have a mixture! Some days Paynes Bay and some days Schooner Bay. Or are you only meeting them for one day? Paynes Bay is a gorgeous beach, but unfortunately it does get busy when the large cruise ships are in - it could possibly be the beach you mention. However, I use it a lot and on many days there is virtually no-one on it. You really need to check the cruise schedule first, which you can find a barbadosport.com, then go into 'cruise' and then the month you will be there....More

First timer trip report (15 Replies)
First off, thanks to all that contribute to this forum. I find TA very helpful when trying to decide on a travel destination and this was a particularly informative message board. My wife and I just returned last night from a six-day long stay at Beach View In St. James. Very nice SC accommodation in a great location on the island (Paynes Bay). Day 1) Tuesday morning 8:00am Jet Blue flight out of JFK...easy check-in, security line very manageable (unusually so for a NYC area airport)...More
