We did a full day trip on a speed boat, it was excellent, the snorkeling was amazing,
I would probably would give the emerald lake a miss if climbing ladder-steep steps for 15-20 min is too much, as it was very very hot (it is winter here) but well worth a visit, I am so glad we did it! Massages are cheap enough here that the sore thighs didn’t last long 😍
The marine park is a visual wonder above & below the water. Inexperienced people can still snorkel over amazing corals surrounded by brilliantly coloured schools of fish & marine life (not a shark in sight 😉).
Lunch at one of the the islands restaurants is recommended to see the original lifestyle of the local people, and the huge buffet of food was delicious. The only thing I might change was the length of the tour, we were off at 8am from the pier at big Buddha beach & back at about 5.30pm, it was a long day , but we saw heaps in that time. We even stopped at the rangers island & saw wild monkeys.
The crew were lovely, but all heavy smokers, the smell kind of detracted from the pristine snorkeling environment..
The return trip in the speedboat-due to the ocean swell was very rough (I have butt bruises to prove it! 😀), but I sat at the front end of the boat so that was caused by my position...
All in all it was great fun & definitely worth doing. For those with back issues I would recommend the larger boats for a smoother ride home.

I highly recommend the day trip via boat. We used Oceana Samui Charters (booked from the Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui) and they were excellent. It took 45 minutes or so to get to the national park area from Koh Samui. We snorkeled along a coral reef with lots of fish, and spent some time at a nearby beach. At lunch at a little fishing village and saw some Great Hornbills there. Also hiked up to see the Emerald Lake. It's worth the climb, but just know that the stairs are very steep and it takes about 20 minutes to go up.

I enjoyed my visit to the Ang Thong national park. I took an excursion from Koh Samui, but reserved it directly with the guide online and not with an agency. He picked me up from my hotel and brought to the pier from where the boats leave. There were about 20 persons in the boat. We first stopped for snorkeling and then stopped at a place where people do kayaking. It was really beautiful landscape by the beach. The third stop was going to a viewing point where you can see the beach and a lagoon. Very nice and not so exhausting. Finally we ate and stayed also for about one hour in another beach with option to go to viewing point but I didnt because this one was higher, more physically exhausting. If you're in samui this excursion is a must do. I paid 2500 baht all included

We visited the Ang Thong National Park on Jan 2nd, we only organised it the day before: I called someone from a shop I had seen in the Fisherman's Market, she collected the cash (Bht2,000 per person) and sent me by WhatsApp a hand written receipt with the instruction to be at the agency the next day at 8:30am. People are usually picked but we stay at a villa difficult to find and we were happy driving ourselves.
The day was everything it said on the tin: snorkelling 45mns), kayaking (20 mns), walking up to the green lagoon (45 mns), a hearty and tasty lunch (45 mns), free time at a beach with the option to walk to the top of the hill for the view (60 mns).
BUT wherever we went there were other speed boats (another six at the snorkelling point), and we felt rushed and treated like sheep corralled from one place to another.
The experience would have been very different if it had been less crowded.

What an amazing experience at Mu Ko Ang Tong national park. Thank you to the Czech man who was so insightful gave us great information about the fish located in Koh Samui. The wonderful staff who were so kind and had the most yummy food! The crispy chicken, fried rice, spring rolls! Amazing views, we loved the snorkelling. Thank you for such an amazing service on our honeymoon ❤️🫶🏻

The day excursion with Insea Speedboats was extremely well organised and will leave long lasting memories. Highly recommended, the scenery of the National Marine Park is stunningly beautiful and the various islands are individually special and some have crystal clear water and pure white sandy beaches. Very special place.

Really worth visiting. Beautiful places and amazing views. But couple of things to make the trip best possible: 1. weather, if waves are too big it's not possible to visit all places and boat trip can be difficult, 2. good shoes, viewpoints are nice, but the way up might be hard, especially if wearing only flipflops, 3. Operating company, routes, included activities and services vary between companies.

Took a day trip with some friends to this national park during covid. We spent the entire day swimming, cruising around the fabulous islands, snorkeling, drinking beer and enjoying the completely desolate golden beaches.
We did not see a single other visitor the entire day which really added to the beauty of this spot. Such a great day and can be pretty cheap too!

Not sure which company we used, but it started with collection at hotel, speedboat to first island where we snorkelled for around 30 minutes, back in boat to a different area and a further 20 minutes snorkelling in a cave, then too an island where we kayaked, before walking up a very dangerous trail, for a view point which was worth a decent photo or two; don't try climbing with flip flops on. We then back in boat to a different island for lunch which was good. Not sure when, we also was taken to a lagoon which required a steep stair walk to access. Finally, to the last island for an hour relaxing on the beach (a few monkeys were walking around here). Then back to Samui. A packed day made good by the guides and decent paced speed boat.
As for the national park, so much to see and the guides point out many interesting aspects along the way.

This iconic natural park is accessed by boat of which there are numerous options and price points. It's a wonderful albeit a long day's outing. Those who enjoy snorkeling will find Ang Thong a highlight of their time in Thailand. There are numerous different promotional broucutes available on the island and Google will also assist you with copious information and options.

Hi! I, along with two of my friends, are planning a trip to Koh Samui between 25th-28th December. We have booked a place at Bang rak beach for our entire time there. We plan on hiring a car as two of us can drive.I wanted to know what all we can cover in the island in 2 days?
We wanted to take a day trip to the Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park. Can someone suggest a good tour operator and what will be the average cost of it? Can we book it on spot or pre-booking is better?
Also, any suggestions for 25th night? we will be reaching the island in afternoon.
Thanks for your help!

Is it easier to get to from Ko Samui or Ko Phangan? Or are they equidistant?

Koh Samui has more options, but really either one is completely doable. Whatever fits your schedule. Bigger boats (and groups) from Samui. Koh Phangan can get you a smaller group. Depends on where you are staying and what your schedule is.
