We live in Stavanger, but haven't taken a guided tour around the city and thought it would be fun. It was Halloween weekend coming up, so we four 2 parents with one adult daughter + her friend, thought to try the Dark Side (seasonal) tour. Our guide was excellent, with all kinds of information about Stavanger's dark past (it wasn't that scary). We walked around the city center, getting information at prespecified locations and the guide company had set up people in costumes acting out little skits from the period. All involved were courteous and professional. It was drizzly (yr), so think about proper clothing. It is an entertaining way to learn about the city and we will likely join a regular tour in future.

Booked a guided tour to celebrate my grandmothers 81st birthday. The booking process was perfect, and Kjersti always picked up the phone when we had any questions. Janne, our guide, made this a memorable time. She also brought my grandmother a present, which she absolutely loved. Thank you!

This was way way better than any of us could imagine. I would highly recommend this for anyone visiting Stavanger, but it’s also highly recommended for locals. It was pretty amazing to hear all of these stories from our own home town from an super enthusiastic guide!

We went on the Gladmat festival trip , where we visited 5 restaurants in Stavanger inner City. We walked from restaurant to restaurant and got history off the city in between the visits. Everything was great. The food was great. We will for sure do this again.

Went to Skjærgårdscruise. Nice weather and many beautiful places. PA system where terrible, could hardly hear what the guide said. And he seemed abit unprepared. Cruise where supposed to last for 1.5 hours but took only just over 1 hour including going back to pickup late comers.

A lovely cruise around the islands of Stavanger. Excellent guide with good stories. Lots of fun things to learn and a beautiful view. Even with a bit of rain.
Liked that the tour was only an hour, easy to do with kids. And the price was very good.

We took a cruise through the fjords, and this was definitely the best tour we took while in Norway. GuideCompaniet has a stand right at the dock, though I recommend booking ahead.

We got on a bus and a guide in period dress gave an informative and entertaining lecture on the Vikings as we toured Stavanger. We made three stops. They give you Viiking helmuts in case you want to use them as photo props. We visited the Three Swords Monument and received a succinct and informative lecture on the history of Norway's unification. We then stopped at a place that looked like a more modest Norwegian version of Stonehenge. The guide gave a wonderful lecture on the possible history of the site (parliament and/or sacrificial site). The best part of the tour was visiting an Iron Age farm, 300 years before the age of the Vikings, but still interesting. A guide dressed as the lady of the house welcomes you into her period home. The longhouse was wonderfully authentic and gave the guide's talk a wonderful ambiance. Afterwards, you are given a free pass to the Archeological museum, which I highly recommend. It is a great little museum with a wonderful shop for unique souvenirs. It is also not difficult to walk from the museum back to the dock. (The tour guide will give you instructions.)

I really enjoyed the tour and highly recommend it.

Dear ChiCanadian1969, Wow! We are truly grateful you took the time and effort to write these kind words about GuideCompaniet and the VikingTour. I am of course very pleased to hear you enjoyed it so much and that you also visited the Archeological Museum – a great way to end the tour. We launched the VikingTour in 2016 and we have been really curious and excited about what the response would be. Your review means a lot to our company and to ensure the quality of the tour. I wish you all the best for the future and hope you come back to Stavanger for more Viking experiences in the future :)

Four of us were on a cruise port stop in Stavanger for a day in May. We booked the Viking tour online before we arrived; turned out it was the very first one the company had ever done. We had no trouble finding the newly painted Viking Bus on the dock. Given that it was a start-up, it was excellent; as was our guide, Camilla (a transplant to Norway from South America). She was very knowledgeable about the Viking history and culture; she was also dressed in authentic reproduction Viking clothing.

The first stop was the Swords in Rock monument, an impressive 10 meters tall and placed in solid rock located on a very scenic spot along the fjord. It commemorates the 9th Century Battle of Hafsfjord held there that united the tribes of Norway. The four of us posed for an unforgettable picture in the Viking helmets provided by the guide (yes, touristy, but fun). Note: I wish she would have let us take pictures with the reproduction sword she had. Next, the bus went off road a bit and we walked down a trail to an ancient stone circle, Domsteinane. The guide described several possible theories of what could have been the purpose of the circle. For us, this was the best stop of the day.

The last stop was at Jernaldgarden, an iron age (Viking predecessors) settlement; surprisingly just off the road and partially surrounded by condo buildings. The site's guide was excellent and described and demonstrated how these people lived while we were in one of the 1500 year old dwellings. A ticket to the Archeology Museum was included with the tour but we didn't use it. We enjoyed the tour and learned a great deal, earning the Viking Diploma we received.

Since we only had one day in Stavanger, it would have been helpful if the tour would have started with a tour around the present day village with a commentary.

Tour was easy to find right next to the ship. Enjoyed getting to see the historical sites around Stavanger. Went to three swords, another ruin site, Iron Age Farm, and the Museum. Our guide was great and really brought the Viking Experience to life for my daughter. Only thing to note if you are going to eat at the Museum is that there is no English menu and very limited selection of food.

We were lucky as we were exiting our ship in Stavenger Norway there was a Segway tour stand awaiting our arrival. Little did they know we have done this in several cities so it was an easy sell. Out of our group of 10 only 5 went but we had way more fun then the rest of our group. We covered a lot of ground in 1 1/2 hours and had lots of fun doing it with a little extra play time before the tour was over. Christine was a fun, relaxed tour guide. We really appreciated that!! Can't wait till we find the next Segway tour!!!

I booked this tour online for me and my wife. We had a small group, so it was like a private tour. To get in the Viking mood we were given Viking helmets :). The guide, Tom, was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the Viking history and mythology. The first stop was at the Swords in Rock monument, an important spot in Norwegian history. I like the story about king Harald. After visiting an old church and a reconstructed stone circle we came to the highlight of the tour. At the Iron Age farm we were welcomed by the lady of the house, dressed in typical clothing from that time. Here we could experience how daily life was in the Iron Age and Viking Age. Finally we visited the Viking exhibition in the Archeological museum, where there are many original items from the vikings. All in all, very much recommended!
