It is a truly magic little jewel box, and walking on these streets feels like wonderland. There are many cute shops along the way as well. You do have to pick a good time for a longer walk, as rain is frequent in Stavanger in any season. There is also hidden street are everywhere, so if you are a fan, keep your eyes open. A place for the coolest pictures!

Buildings dating back as old as early 1700, a cobble stone street walked on for centuries, this place is a trip back in time with its perfectly preserved homes. Several small parks and gardens to meet friendly cats and people watch. Picturesque houses with gorgeous gardens to snap idealistic Norwegian photos to brag about to your friends at home.

This cluster of old wooden white houses is very photogenic. There are only a handful of paralell streets and it takes a very short time to walk round them. However if you take in all the hidden corners and the lovely little details you can spend quite a time there. The gardens and flowers in pots really make it a lovely place to visit.

This historical area is quite lovely and worth your time. It's not very big so you can walk the streets in just a short time and soak in the architecture of those beautiful, old buildings. Just be aware there are no shops or restaurants since this is a residential area.

Don’t miss a stroll round the cobbled streets, just opposite where our cruise ship was moored. The houses are privately owned and not holiday homes, and judging from the notices on the gates the owners must get annoyed by so many strangers passing by so many times, you can’t blame them. Many have lovely little gardens. It is quite a steep climb (ramp or steps) to reach the main row of houses but worthwhile.

This is the old parts of towns. In the end of the one the streets is the oldest house of the city. That is from 1825 and soon 200 years old.

This part of the city is well kept in narrow streets. A wonderful place to take a stroll. Easy steps and enjoy. Seeing some houses and traditional architecture.

We can recommed to go here. A small stroll into a historical area. In small and narrow streets.

Beautiful and architecturally important pearl in Stavanger. We actually stayed here retning a old house which was a unique experience. Narrow streets and well kept old houses transfer one back to another era of time. Stavanger should be proud to own such an exquisite wonderland!

We visited Stavanger on a cruise excursion, and had an enjoyable walk around the old town. The white wooden buildings are charming. There are some unique craft shops here, as well as lovely flowers and views over the town/harbour/cruise ships.

Quaint, white painted houses and pretty, cobbled streets in this old area of town. It is beautifully presented and well preserved by residents. Apparently, historically when you moved house, you not only took all your furniture and goods, but dismantled the whole house and took that too! The house was literally moved! Easy to do when houses were made of slatted timber. The area of Gamle Stavanger is opposite the cruise terminal and well worth exploring. It just oozes character! Beautiful!

This is a must see for tourists from abroad. You can take beautiful pictures here and take in the unique atmosphere. But PLEASE remember - these are people's private homes. Do not look in through their windows or sit on their staircases. Just walk through quietly and enjoy the old houses and very narrow streets.
