About
In the Town Hall Square in the Town of Roses stands the bronze statue of the Rose Maiden, surrounded by a dancing fountain. The Rose Maiden is young and beautiful and has her arms full of roses. The sculpture was a gift to Molde in 1971 from Gotlib Moe, owner of the former clothing factory Hovding Konfeksjonsfabrikk. It was sculpted by Ragnhild Butenschon. Molde Town Hall was completed in 1966 and is the result of an architectural competition won by the architects Cappelen and Rodahl. Built in concrete and stone it features gold-tinted glass. The roof of the town hall boasts one of the town's most beautiful rose gardens.

The statue is not worth a special trip. If you're in downtown Molde, she's easy to spot. Guide told us her basket holds roses.

This statue is located in Molde town and is one of those sightseeing things to do but the Molde town itself is an OK place to visit but the real joys come out of town along the Atlantic Ocean Highway and on Haholmen Island where you can experience a trip on an authentic Vikong Ship replica across to the base island of Ragnar Thorseth who built and sailed the Saga Siglar Viking Ship around the world. A must if you love adventure film and stories.

The Rose Maiden is more than a statue. She represents hope for the people of Molde. The Rose Maiden is young and beautiful, and has her arms full of roses for peace. She was a gift to Molde in 1971 from Gotlib Moe, and was sculpted by Ragnhild Butenschøn. It has come to symbolize the “Town of Roses” in Norway. Molde is interesting in and of itself. During WWII, it was the temporary capital of Norway. The nazi’s bombed Molde and destroyed ALL the old buildings in the city center. The town was rebuilt and kinda completed in the 50’s, so now the city center is almost frozen in time there. Old Americans can now walk down the main streets and reflect on their own little old hometowns with store front shops and remember BW (Before WalMart)!! We were there on a Sunday morning so the shops were closed. Most appropriate. The chimes from the Cathredal were chiming out, calling folks to worship.

Impressive statue in front of the City hall. Molde calls themselves the City of Roses and this sculpture of a lady with Golden Roses is fitting.

Easy walk downtown to literally smell the roses. In front of Town Hall is this larger than life size bronze statue of the “Maiden of Roses” representing this picturesque little town of Molde. Step inside the municipality just to see how art and government can be reflected in one’s culture.

Something a bit different in a good position in front of the smart looking Town Hall. Even better as the fountain was in full flow as well. You can't miss it as you walk down the High Street.

I was walking to my hotel from the bus station and stopped here briefly. Just a simple Town hall with some statues and roses and a water feature.

Center of the city, beautiful flowers on the side walk. This is a charming place to relax and enjoy the breathtaking view across the town hall (mountains and fjord).

Stopped here after seeing the sign. The rose garden was not very impressive at this time
of the year but the view from there was very nice.
