We stopped in at 11 on a weekday right when they opened. It was pretty and evocative but by 11:30 three buses of (I think) cruise ship tours arrived and it was packed. This could be bad luck but additionally we ordered a pastry (hard), cake (dry), and pancake with jam (reheated not made fresh —we could see the kitchen—but tasted good for that). Would stop if in the area anyhow but not make a special trip and/or go later in day to avoid bus groups. Would not use cafeteria again.

The tour to Alnes lighthouse in Alesund, Norway was exciting and memorable. When we arrived in Alnes lighthouse other tourists were heading back telling my friends and I that the lighthouse was closed. The view from the ground was amazing but I really wanted to get to the top of the lighthouse. When the tour guide caught up with us, he said get ready to go to the top of the lighthouse. I was perplexed how can the tour guide have access to the lighthouse. I found out the tour guide made an appointment with the caretaker of the lighthouse. The stairs going up was challenging and I had to navigate a narrow section of the stairs. But once on the top, the view was clear and relaxing. Priceless. One of my favorite tour spot in Alesund. Mount Aksla was the best.

This place was really good as we got the local buses to the place. Because it was in the winter it was essential for walking there to have clip on cleats. The actual lighthouse was fabulous to climb up to the top as the views were amazing. We had hot chocolate and some nibbles at the cafe close by. We even saw surfboard riders in the freezing waters.

We took the ferry to Alnes and walked to the lighthouse enjoying the quaint village houses on the way. When we reached the lighthouse, there was beauty in every direction. The Nordic Sea to the West, the Fjords in the distance to the South, the island hills to the East and the gorgeous lighthouse in grassy fields. All made for amazing photos. The lighthouse was closed when we were there so it was just a photography excursion. We had to rush back to meet the bus (or wait 2 more hours in the village with just one cafe) so be careful to watch the schedule to make your return. If I go back I'd take a picnic lunch and a bottle of wine and have a nice lunch there on the picnic tables.

Alnes lighthouse is located at Alnes on the island of Godøya, near Aalesund , Norway. By car and through three sub-sea tunnels (each about four kilometers) and across one bridge, and passing the islands of Ellingsøya ("the home of bacalao"), Valderøya and Giske, you will be at Alnes in 20 minutes.
The lighthouse was built in 1852 to make the return of fishermen safer. The wooden tower is just 22,5 m, high, but the view of the ocean is awesome. It is well worth the effort to climb the narrow stairs. There is an exhibition of local art at the lighthouse and a cafe offering fresh coffee and cakes. There are toilets outside and a stall selling locally made souvenirs.
There are paths and roads for walking and a white, sandy beach, which is popular on sunny days. You may sometimes see surfers in action on heavy waves. There are lots of seabirds and maybe you will see an eagle sailing majestically above. There are often seals along the coast.
Alnes is an old fishing-village and today about 200 people live there. If you want to stay a little longer there are well-equipped cabins for rent.
I think it is a good idea to visit Alnes and its lighthouse.

We visited Alnes lighthouse during our trip to Alesund (summer 2014). We reached Alnes by public bus which we found excellent the buses are always on time and the English speaking drivers are happy to provide advice. The journey is very scenic and we were even given our return journey free! The lighthouse itself is small yet very pretty and I recommend walking to the the top of the lighthouse although there is a small fee. The tea room there is delightful, the food is basic but excellent and the staff our so friendly and speak excellent English. The surrounding views and beaches are breathtaking and all in all we had a very enjoyable trip to Alnes!

... of places we visited in Alesund. My bad, didn't check their website and landed there on tue, so it was closed. (website mentions only Sunday as being open in Sept). But the flip side to that was that the whole place was for hubby n me. Although we couldn't get to the top of the light house / souvenir shop / cafe, the scenic beauty around the light house was dazzling. Clicked a zillion pics along the white boulder'd coast and the deep blue sea. The rich green grass added its own hue to the pics and we are very happy to have visited this light house, thanks to TA.
Irrespective of the day of the week, strongly recommend a visit here for the tranquility and also the Norwegian country side exposure (the bus route is awesome too). You can club the Atlantic Sea Park / Atlanterhavsparken (both are the same). Bus No. 618 can fetch u from the centre, drop u off at the aquarium / drop u further to Alnes. Collect the time table from the tourist info centre so that u can schedule ur visit. The last bus out of Alnes is at 18:30, ensure u dont get left out on the island ;)

Not only can you climb the stairs to the top, you will be entertained along the way by the splendid display of the local artist, well known Ørnulf Opdahl, with original works, sketches and canvases reflecting his development since the 1970's.

I took my old parents to a trip out here. We drove through the tollfree tunnels and bridges. Very scenic views while over land.
Visited the lighthouse and the visitors centre. And had a small meal and something to drink. My old parents really enjoyed the trip.

I thought it will be 5-10 minutes to walk up the lighthouse enjoy the views and take some pictures. What a mistake!! Views are one thing but the lighthouse premises alone makes you want to just sit there - and have a coffee and cake which you can order in the small caffe there. The big decision to make will be where to enjoy your coffee, inside or outside - in both cases surroundings are fantastic! Such a peaceful and nice place and best of all - cakes are homemade and you might have to wait for a cake because it is still baking! Totally totally worth visiting! I honestly doubt you'll be disappointed

Can I get here from cruise port easily? Or is it recommended I book a tour?
Written April 11, 2019
This is a question of price & time.
One can take a tour organised by the boat, a tour from the pier ( book on line ), or a private taxi - with / without guide.
Great solution, just contact me if you need motre help.

Hi there, I am visiting Alesund in October first week. Would you mind sharing how did you get to the Lighthouse? We have a car, is it a under sea tunnel or a direct road to the place?
Written September 8, 2018
Hi, as you know thats an island but no problem as you can go by car. There are one bridge and one underwater tunnel. In summer there were road works in tunnel so cars are led on specific times according timetable.

Ad agosto andrò ad Alesund con una nave da crociera. Sa mica con quali mezzi di trasporto si può raggiungere. ci sono autobus? o bisogna noleggiare una auto?
