From Sukkertoppen (The Sugar Top), you can get a magnificent view with both city, coast and fjord in one! From the centre of alesund you can drive, bicycle or take the local bus to Hessa and eventually park at the primary school, just west of the roundabout in Hessaskaret. Cross the road above the school and follow the Sukkertoppvegen westwards until you find the sign where the path starts, at the right by number 22. The path is gravelled in the beginning, passes a grove and the path is clearly visible (but might be wet and dirty) all the way to the top. You are past half the way when passing the transmitter mast. An unforgettable view expects you!

Great panoramic view on not just Alesund but also surroundings. It might be quite challenging sometimes especially for not very well fit person but it's not that difficult! Even if you're not very fit you still can do it, you'll just need some more time....More

I'm so glad we did this. A great adventure and the view from the top is short of heavenly. Pretty simple hike, but does have some areas where you need to climb a bit. We did it with our kids and they absolutely loved it....More

We ended up making this hike as a plan B adventure in Alesund. One reviewer said it was a short walk from town, but only if your idea of a short walk is about 5 miles. The walk to the trail from town is not...More

Great hike. We did it with kids (youngest 8yrs) no problem. Views are fantastic. Our biggest concern was the mud which was slippery. Rainfall was recent so quite muddy. Happy hiking!

Instead of just doing the steps of Aksla, be more adventurous and go climb Sukkertoppen. We walked from our cruise ship to the start of the hike, quite a distance but perfectly manageable, then started the climb. For a non-hiker, I was very comfortable most...More

If you're a regular hill walker then this will be a stroll for you but it's worth it for the view. The starting point is a couple of miles from Ålesund town centre. It's perfectly walkable but is easier by car or bus. The starting...More

If you visit Ålesund a must-do is the hike to the top of Sukkertoppen. It is a comfortable hike of about 5 km in total. Go to the start by car or bus. The path can be a bit wet, so be sure to wear...More

Let's start from the good part: The view from the top is amazing, you can have a 360 degrees panorama of the city plus its surroundings, that's thrilling. The hike can be considered easy to moderate, but we did the hike on a rainy day...More

Someone else reported no 618 bus and ask the driver to be sure you're going in the right direction. Ask to be let off at the school and there is a hiker sign.
