About
Den Nationale Scene (The National Stage) is Norway's oldest permanent theatre with roots dating back to 1850 and the Norwegian violinist Ole Bull. The theatre was founded to develop Norwegian playwrights and Henrik Ibsen was one of the first writer-in-residences and art-directors of the theatre. The theatre is situated in a beautiful Art Noveau-building, from 1909, in the middle of Bergen.

This over 100 year old building is well worth a visit if in the area. As Bergens largest theatre it's set in well maintained grounds and with an interesting statue of Henrik Ibsen out the front its worth a stop by.

Unfortunately there was nothing on in the theatre when we were there so I cannot comment on its interior or the acoustics but I can imagine it being something special.

Housed in a beautiful building completed in 1909, this is one of the oldest theaters in Norway. Ole Bull and Henrik Ibsen were important initial influences. The building has undergone multiple expansions and re-modelings, the most recent in 2001. It offers three separate stages, and has the capability to develop dozens of productions every year. It is centrally located in Bergen and one of its most notable buildings.

This grandiose building is set just off Torgallmenningen, the pedestrian thoroughfare of Bergen. Come enjoy the beauty of the building and the picturesque greenery around it. There is a striking sculpture of Ibsen to the right of the square, in front of the theater. Do stroll by here on your walking tour of Bergen.
