Excellent museum, shop and cafe
Aug 2020 • Couples
Excellent displays and wonderful 15 minute film of 3 generations of fishermen talking about the industry then and now. Very interactive and great for children and adults. Lovely shop and cafe nearby has quay side seating as well as a charming interior cafe. Lovely freshly made light lunches. The restored museum building also is remarkable!

Educational, modern interactive museum for all ages

Great place to start your Bergen adventure, take the mini ferry to it (“Beffen”)
Great variety of exhibits allowing kids to explore and interact and learn. Not too big either, and the cosy cafe is a great place to refuel afterwards. Perfect for rainy days.

Interesting museum
Sep 2019
The Fisheries Museum was entertaining albeit somewhat out of the way... but there is a regularly scheduled shuttle to and from the site. Good to see another part of the city itself. On the Bergen Card.

Most buses from the city centre northbound will stop right outside the museum. And the transport is included if you have the Bergen Card. The museum is a hidden gem, so worth the trip. Thank you for the review and welcome back!

This was a great museum!
Feb 2020
We had a bit of a laugh when deciding to go to a fisheries museum but it was seriously interesting. The venue itself is fascinating and the exhibits were informative and involving. There was plenty for children and adults to do. This was good value at 90nok (free with Bergen card) and we spent over 2 hours here. Look for the exhibit where you place a toy fish on the scales then turn the handle to learn the fishing history for that specie. The 2 short films were also fantastic.

Great Interactive Museum
Jan 2020
This was a great experience and very informative of the history of Norway as it relies so heavily on fishing. There were many interactive activities that are fun for all ages. It is a little out of city centre, but it is a nice walk to get there. Highly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape the rain for a day.

Well worth a visit
Dec 2019 • Family
Three generations of us found this hugely interesting in many different ways. Take the time to read and you will learn a lot. The interactive side for the kids is very very good. We also enjoyed that part as you learn as you play along. Cafe at end was nice albeit quite pricey. Staff very nice in the museum itself.

Great! You can find all facts connected with the history of fisheries in Norway in this museum. Original buildings from 18th century, information how this industry looked like many centuries ago and what is new in it today

Backbone of Bergen's economy
Aug 2019
You learn a lot about Bergen by understanding the importance of fishing to its economy, especially cod and herring. This museum on the waterfront just west of the Bryggen tells that story. If you have the time, you can visit an offshore fish farm. The walk back to downtown along the waterfront offers many great photo opportunities.

Targeted for kids
Oct 2019
We ended up at this museum because it was the only one still open after 3:00. We were the only people there! The two movies were quite interesting; the rest of the displays were okay but nothing special. Recommend if you have the Bergen card or if you're with kids.

Don’t miss this gem
Sep 2019
This museum is about a 20 minute walk down the old street of Bryggen and then around the wharf. Or go to the Hanseatic museum (also great) and get free admission and take the free museum bus (every half hour) there. It is a wonderful museum with good information for adults and fun activities for children. It is a self-learning concept with screens of information in many languages and video on the fishing practices.

I really enjoyed the experience and recommend it for all ages.
