Amazing! We got the first bus from Bergen city centre to Ulriken and were some of the first people up the cable car in the morning, it was so quiet and peaceful (and we were lucky that the sun was out)
It soon got busy so I'd recommend trying to get there as early as you can.
You can walk up / down but it's approx 2000 steps (as in stairs) each way. Many people were doing this and it would have been lovely but I stuck to the cable car each way.
There are many walks and hikes you can go on, not signposted so ensure you know your way and take water / be prepared.
It takes a little longer to reach Ulriken than Floyen but the views from here were absolutely amazing.

It's not easy to locate but it's a great view once you're there. If you're near the wharf, you'll need to taxi (expensive) or figure out the bus system. From the bus stop, it's a not insignificant 15 minute walk uphill to the base gondola. You can buy your tickets there and it's a short ride to the top. During the winter, it's snow covered and beautiful. You can walk out through the snow and down the mountain a bit if you wish. The mountain offers a gorgeous panoramic of Bergen and the neighboring areas. They also have a very stylish cafe where you can warm up, have food and beverages. Overall, definitely worth the trek.

We enjoy riding in gondolas and this was no exception. We took the dedicated shuttle bus from city center, the bus was very nice, on time and dropped us at the base of the gondola. Boarding was easy and the ride offered amazing view. At the top there is a cafe and restaurant, we ordered hot chocolates and pasties which were very good. There is a nice restroom at the top as well. 360 views can't be beat!

We went on the cable car not realising that there was no view at all, due to the fog, it looked ok from the bottom of the hill. We requested a refund as we spent less than a minute at the top, as we could not see anything, which was denied.
The tickets are very expensive so make you can see the view, as they will not tell you if the visibly is zero prior to purchasing the tickets. We were very disappointed. I understand they cannot control the weather, however they can more transparent about the visibility, so people can make a decision based on reality of the conditions at the top.

This trip up Mount Ulriken was one of the highlights of my trip to Norway! Our tour guide had suggested it and said the view was "magnificent" and he was spot on. I cannot recommend the shuttle company : "ulriken643.no" - more as the young man "SINA" was so friendly and we talked quite a bit after my stay on the mountain. The yellow shuttle bus is located up a block or 2 from the central fish market near the pedestrian mall area.
The views are breathtaking and you will want to spend time up there just to take in the beauty of the surrounding mountains, water and the North Sea ( and some goats on the mountain)!
Highly recommend it and have a Prosecco!

The cable car ride is fantastic, very smooth and modern, runs at short interludes, with fantastic views in good weather. You can also take the 1333 steps if you feel like it, either way save some energy for the 20 to 30 minute walk from the cable car to the actual summit which is a little higher. The cafe is excellent, there is also a restaurant adjacent to it, nice clean toilets, somewhere to fill up your water bottle etc. At the weekends there is a zip wire, sadly we were not there at the weekend, can't have it all! Like just about everything we did in Bergen, it's all clean, efficient, and the people are very friendly. Recommended!

Excellent views and a great opportunity to get outdoors and do a bit of hiking. The gondola ride is short and smooth.
It is easy to get the bus to/from the town centre which also includes the ticket for the gondola.

We had done Mount Floyen via the Funicular in Bergen and so I was expecting something as bit redundant to that experience. However, this was a lot different and highly enjoyable.
First, it is much, much higher than Mount Floyen. Second, the cable car is an exciting experience on a windy day. Thirds, you can hike into the snow at the top. Fourth, you can watch paragliders jump off the top.

We climbed up the Sherpa steps which was a decent walk and easy to find round the back of the cable car. We did it quickly but would be fine if you took it slowly. Some amazing view points on the way up, did the zip line at the top and got the cable car down. A great way to spend the morning. We walked from the centre of Bergen rather than getting the bus which was fine, a lot of building works going on currently so not the most scenic but it was a nice day and good to stretch our legs.

If you are a hiker, you could choose to visit Ulriken.
There are different routes to the top, but I prefer the one with the newly done steps. They were done a couple of years ago by sherpas, and it's amazing to look at the construction of these rocks and imagining how they were build. From the top its a spectacular view, and in clear weather it's one of the best places to be in Bergen.
From here you can walk to Fløyen, or just go down again, and have a well deserved meal in the city center.
Note that this is quite an exhausting trip, so you should either have lots of time, or be in good shape.
It takes about an hour in good tempo to the top. Can be done in 45 minutes if you are a fast walker, even up hills, but that's not recommendable. Rather take your time and enjoy the beautiful nature and the views along the way.

In terms of tickets, we only want a one-way cable car. We are coming off a cruise. What is the most economical way to do it? The public bus, the shuttle bus? I know the shuttle can include cable car prices, but it's a return, and we're only using the cable car one way.

How long would it take to hike down? We are hoping to take the cable car up, and then walk down.

Can someone please clarify this for me. Do you have to pay for a tour to climb the mountain as it seems quite a lot for a guided tour up. Or are you simply able to go up yourself?
Regards
Hi! You do not have to buy a tour og have guides to help you. The oppstemten sherpa trail will take you to the top. For more info and map visit the ulriken643 website

That you for your question. You can drive your car to the cable car lower station. Not further.
