About
Fløyen is a must do while in Bergen. Fløibanen, the funicular brings you up the hillside, from Bergen city centre to the top of the mountain in 6 minutes. At Mount Fløyen you will find beautiful views of Bergen, the nearby islands, fjords and mountains surrounding Bergen. Fløyen is a great destination for hiking, mountain biking and soft adventures. We are surrounded by hillsides, mountains, forests, nice little lakes and numerous trails. We offer daily guided hikes “Hiking Mount Fløyen" and Mountain bike rental from mid June until mid August. We love children, and the children love Fløyen. Let the kids explore our playground, Fløysletten climbing playground, the Troll forest. Try out canoe paddling at lake Skomakerdiket (mid June - mid August), feel the adrenalin rush in FløyenKids ziplinepark and get at kiss from our lovely goats at Fløyen. Fløistuen shop and cafè have souvenirs, perfect gifts and memories from Bergen and Norway. We offer local food as “Fløyenbollen", the cinnamon-bun and our organic soup “Fløyensuppen". Fløien Folkerestaurant is open daily from May until September.

    Great views
This is a great, and fairly inexpensive way to get superb views over the city of Bergen. There are a few stops on the way up, so it is possible to reduce the fare by walking up (or down) a few levels before buying a ticket. There isn’t a whole heap to do at the top but you can admire the view, pet the goats, visit the cafe and take a free pee (rare in Bergen), but it’s worth it nonetheless.

A different take on a beautiful city
The cost up to the viewing point is cheap, and the journey is smooth and quick. The viewing platform is spacious and overlooks all of the city which is stunning. There are toilets and a place to grab a snack and drinks up there. There is a huge c.16km hike (with several different paths so the hike can be as long as you want) that is in the most stunning natural forest. There are waterfalls and lakes to be seen and would even be good for runners/cyclists with smooth paths along the way.

Essential - see Bergen from the top of the mountain & it’s easy!
Essential trip if you’re in Bergen. Get the funicular op to top Of mountain. Very new and safe, reasonably priced. Views are out of this world. Cafes, bars, kids play areas and park area at top too. We did it in brilliant sunshine. Essential and easy way to get great views over Bergen

    Great views!
On a sunny day, had great views of Bergen and the surrounding area. Main restaurant is being renovated, but they had food trucks, ice cream and var available. Hiking trails at the top. Nice way to spend a couple hours!

Watch the view over Bergen as you travel up the Floibanen funicular
A really great way to travel up Mt Floyen and get a vista view of Bergen. May is a great time of year to be in Norway as the greenery really starts to flourish. The forest on Mt Floyen is magical, and the Floibanen is the best way to get to the top. Highly recommend walking down though as you get to experience the magical forest, and being enveloped by the trees.

Glorious views, a true Bergen "Must-Do!"
A terrific way to see Bergen as you climb in the funicular. The view at the top is stunningly magnificent! Memorable and a must-see if you come to Bergen. I was reminded of the views of Seattle and Washington state. This vista will be etched in my mind forever as glorious Norway!

Nice city overlook on a clear day.
Very nice experience. Nice view of the city on a clear day. Funicular ride is quick. Booked our tickets at the Information office down at the fish market so we did not stand in line for the tickets. Be sure to check out the goats when on top. Just past the restaurant.

Great views of Bergen and surrounding area at the top. Don’t miss the friendly and super cute goats you can cuddle 😍
The funicular ride is quite short (about 3-4 mins each way) but it takes you to some great viewpoints! You can take good photos from the funicular window as well - really well maintained and clean windows! At the top you can find a gift shop, free toilets with a funny message on them (photo attached), 2 cafe shops you can have a coffee/beer/some small bite. It was a bit chill and slightly windy when we were up there, but partially sunny (and, very important, not raining!!) so we had the opportunity to take some nice pictures and enjoy walking around for a couple of hours or so. For me, the highlight of the visit are the friendly and cuddly goats you can find there. Each of them has a name and you need to queue to take a selfie or photos of them due to the amounts of people (particularly families with kids) who want to do the same as you! 😊 So if you like goats and animals in general, make sure you don’t miss them out! It was really beautiful, I could have stayed there for hours on end. We would have walked back down if my partner hadn’t kind of sprained his ankle before getting up there, so the walk down was not feasible, unfortunately… but if you want to do it, there are 3 routes that take you down to the city centre from the plateau. All are accessible for everyone.

    Great trip up, beautiful views
I booked the tickets online before we arrive on a cruise. Reasonably easy walk from the ship. When we arrived (quite early) there were no queues and we got on the first train. Slick loading and unloading of the train and a smooth trip up to the top of the mountain. We were extremely lucky with the weather and had fantastic views from the top. We took a gentle walk through the beautiful woods to the lake before we headed back down.

We went to Mount Floyen rather than Ulriken
The trip up starts close the the city center and was a short walk from our hotel, unlike the cable car to Mount Ulriken. Ulriken is a little higher but a tour guide told us the added height did not make the view better. We would have needed to take the Ulriken bus ($$) from city center or walk/city bus to the cable car origin.

We did two trips up the railway, one at night time and one in the morning. It is worth doing it in both lights to see the view.

Tickets aren't very expensive, around £8 GBP per person and can be booked very easily on the Floibanen App, then scan the QR on your phone at the barrier and you get straight through without having to queue at all.

Great way to view Bergen, I recommend going near the end of the day to view Bergen in both daylight and then later light up at night. Funicular ride is nothing special, just a means of getting to the top which is well worth it. Heaps of fun playgrounds for kids at top as well as hiking trails, a nice resturaunt and cafe.

We were on the 1st funicular of the day (8am), so we had the place to ourselves for some time. The views are gorgeous, even on a dull winter day, and the viewing areas are plentiful. The little shop opened at 9am and we enjoyed hot chocolate and cinnamon buns (literally straight from the oven!).
We had a great time exploring the walking trails at the top, including the very pretty trail around the frozen lake. By the time we returned heaps of people had arrived and the sky had cleared so it was time to take in those views again.
The walk back down to Bergen is lovely, going through some beautiful bush areas. You can also walk up if you prefer, or take the funicular both ways.
This is a lovely excursion from Bergen.

Best to check the weather before buying any tickets up. If the weather is bad, you see nothing. We were greeted with fogs at the top after taking the funicular up, no view of the city and with the cafe closes we were out of the place by the next ride down.

For a relatively small price you get a stunning view of Bergen, the harbour and the surrounding islands. In March we got a lovely mix of snow capped mountains and city, it really was beautiful. There's shops at the top for food and souvenirs, as well as a walking route through the mountains just above Bergen - it was a bit too snowy for us to do but must be lovely in summer. Definitely come up here when you're visiting Bergen!

A mid-afternoon trip up the funicular and little queue to speak of with social distancing occurring on board, perhaps more by design of the passengers themselves. What a view of Bergen in all its jaw-dropping beauty from the top! Unless you are short for time or have mobility issues, no real need to take the funicular back down to town. Much more fun to meander along some of the trails. Walking down at a leisurely pace takes about 45 minutes and once you leave the foliage of Mount Floyen behind, you can explore some of the quaint alleys at seemingly every turn.

We had dreamed of this place and we have not been disappointed ! Everyone does it but you just need to look at the view to understand why ! The journey in funicular is of course part of its charm as you see the city getting further and further away.
We went up quite late so we didn't get to enjoy everything that the Mount Floyen has to offer but it will just be an excuse to come back !

However, if you are planning to use your Bergen Card discount to get to the top, be sure to come while the ticket office at the city station is open; as you won't be able to get the discount if you buy your ticket from the machine. (As a lot of places, the office closes early even in summer, at 4 pm in our case but we went up at 10:30pm)

We were in Bergen for half a day as a cruise ship stop. Someone had told us we would have to be early off the ship and make our way straight to the funicular if we wanted to stand a chance of getting on it. However we had taken a leisurely walk to the nearby area and thought we would take a look at the queue. Well there wasn’t one. We bought a ticket at the booth (150kr return in June 22) and boarded straight away. There is limited seating in each section but more room to stand. The electronic boards suggested trains were every 30 mins which worried us a little in case it got busy however they were pretty much running up and down constantly.

The station and the carriage were spotless. The ride up and down is very swift (under 3 minutes). If you can try to get the bench seats in the lowest carriage for the best views.

The views from the top are spectacular. We could see our cruise ship in its berth in the distance. There is a lot to see at the top but our time was limited so we just walked to the lake which was enchanting. You could easily spend several hours up here.

When we arrived back at the base station it was busier with a small queue for tickets from the booth but there were electronic machines which very few seemed to be using. If you had purchased your tickets in advance you could scan the QR code on your mobile to open the gates.

Highly recommended. The funicular ride itself is nice, and the view from Fløyen is hard to beat. Once you're on Fløyen, I recommend the cafe past the souvenir shop for its delicious buns. Also, on Sundays you can hike a fairly short distance to Brushytten, where you can buy Norwegian waffles (just double-check that it's open before you go).

I also like about the funicular that it's not just for tourists -- it's also used by locals to get to and from the city.

If conditions permit it, I recommend hiking up or down the mountain for the scenic trails and the amazing views of Bergen.

When you have less than half a day to explore Bergen, you need to be rather disciplined about your sightseeing. At least that's what the anal-retentive side said to me in private, and I knew riding this funicular was on the top of the list. You may ask why, and I would probably raise one eyebrow and clapback "The view, of course." Fortunately, our hotel was just five minutes away from the lower terminus where we were thrilled to find there was no queue of tourists. We paid our 150 NOK round-trip tickets (about $15.40 in US dollars) and were able to get backward-facing seats where we could see the scenic view rising in front of us behinds the heads of the other passengers.

The cars have stepped floors and open windows as they climb almost a thousand feet against the relatively steep slope of Mount Floyen. The ride took about eight minutes as it made two intermediate stops for locals who actually use the funicular as a commuter train (...how frustrating that must be for them during peak tourist season.) Once we arrived at the upper terminus, we first took notice of the expansive viewing terraces which afford spectacular views of Bergen around its harbor. As we walked around the terraces, we began to realize how big the city was as it's Norway's largest city next to Oslo.

Once we took most of our photos, we noticed there was a restaurant, a cafe, a souvenir shop, and a playground, which frankly turned the area into more of an amusement park. My husband was intrigued by signs to a nearby lake which was a few minutes stroll away in the woods. There wasn't much to the lake except a flurry of gnats, so we didn't stay long. Even though the funicular was more crowded going down, the ride back didn't take any longer than the ride up. I have to credit the operating company (Fløibanen AS) for a smooth operation. Listen, I've ridden my share of funiculars from Hong Kong's Peak Tram to Angel's Flight in LA, and this one was definitely in the upper tier.
