The Floibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway's best-known attractions. Floibanen can be found in the heart of Bergen, 150 m from Fisketorget - the fish market - and Bryggen wharf, and it takes just 10 minutes to walk to the lower station from where the cruise ships dock along Bryggen. The journey up to Floyen (320 m above sea level) takes 5-8 minutes. The journey is an experience in itself, and at the top you can enjoy fantastic views over Bergen. Check out the view right now from our webcam of Bergen seen from Floyen.

There are endless opportunities for walks on Floyen, and you will also find a cafe, restaurant and children's playground. The funicular runs daily all year round from early morning to late evening (check our departure times).

Probably one of the cheapest things to do in Bergen. From the top you can take in the fantastic views before following one of the many walking routes sign posted. If you're feeling energetic you can walk back down. There is a restaurant at the top and a gift shop where you can get a hot chocolate and cinnamon bun... More

Easy to find, relatively cheap, regular service - a must do. The views are exceptional and the trip itself really fun!

The Funicular was cheap and the ticket stays open (I can't remember for how long). The ride to the top was fun and the clear sides and roof give great views. Lots of photos ops on the ride and many more at the top. We walked around the top and there is a great childrens playground a flying fox for... More

Im a new yorker in decent shape and this uphill walk put me out of breath and had me breaking sweat. Meanwhile pairs of norwegian women were running past me uphill pushing double baby strollers having easy conversation running and looking perfect. It took about 30-45 minutes to walk to the top at an un-rushed casual pace stopping for pictures.... More

Took the funicular up the mountain to see the sights. Attended a "concert" at the top. Lots of fun, not spectacular, but FUN! Good for cultural experience. The ride up was short, but crowded, very tolerable.

Great fun travelling up in the funicular with views getting better with each minute. We got a single ticket as we were walking back into Bergen. Take care once off the railway, as the concrete areas were very slippery with ice on the morning we visited. Having admired the great views we went off trekking in the hills and mountains... More

A must ! Spectacular views of the city at the top. In. Summer there can be quite a bit of queuing but be patient.

You really have to visit Mount Floyen and the Funicular railway, the views are spectacular and panoramic. Wonderful hot spicy cinnamon rolls available from the gift shop. The restaurant was closed unfortunately for the winter.

Great and clear hiking trails from the top of Floyen. Worth getting the funicular up so you're not knackered by the time you get to the top. Great walk over to Ulriken but don't be fooled by the first few kms of path...this soon turns in to mountain terrain with a bit of scrambling required. Well marked out route but... More
