The Floibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway's best-known attractions. Floibanen can be found in the heart of Bergen, 150 m from Fisketorget - the fish market - and Bryggen wharf, and it takes just 10 minutes to walk to the lower station from where the cruise ships dock along Bryggen. The journey up to Floyen (320 m above sea level) takes 5-8 minutes. The journey is an experience in itself, and at the top you can enjoy fantastic views over Bergen. Check out the view right now from our webcam of Bergen seen from Floyen.

There are endless opportunities for walks on Floyen, and you will also find a cafe, restaurant and children's playground. The funicular runs daily all year round from early morning to late evening (check our departure times).

Great views of the City and fjord

Very impressed with the organisation at the terminus at the bottom. Super views are well worth any wait that you may have, be careful at the top as safety rails are minimal

On a clear day the view from the top is really nice . Decided to climb up but halfway up started getting tired . Surprisingly the funicular has a stop midway too . So bought the ticket from the machine and caught it only for half the way up for 25 kroner . Spend some time on the top before... More

Riding the funicular to the top of Mt Floyen afforded spectacular views of Bergen. After a rainy first day in Bergen the skies cleared so we could ride to the top for the views of the city. It is not really the top as there is plenty of climbing you can do from where the funicular stops but this was... More

I visited this site as part of a cruise ship tour. The funicular ride up provided a good view of the city below. Once at the top, the view was breathtaking, but the temperature was easily about 10-15 degrees cooler than down below. They sell jackets, hats, and scarves, etc. in the gift shop and many tourists were buying them... More

Definitely worth a visit but would recommend taking the funicular up and walking back down to enjoy the views and greenery. Lovely views of Bergen from the top--but check the cloud cover before going up.

We took the funicular up the mountain. We went in the morning and there were no long lines . 2 minute wait to get on. The views were spectacular and though there were many people there it was still easy enough to get to the railing to take pictures. There is a.place to eat up there and a children's playground.

The price is actually cheap and it's a quick ride up. Easy 45-minute walk down through beautiful forest with babbling brooks and perhaps trolls and witches.

Make sure you see this. Fantastic 15 minute ride to the top and views across the city of Bergen all the way up. Nice, but expensive cafe at the top and lovely woodland walks behind the cafe. Check out the family goats sitting just under the view point......

We had a Bergen card so tickets were discounted 50% You get a great view of Bergen and the surrounding area. During our stay we noticed it was covered in low clouds in the morning but seemed to clear each afternoon. We walked down which I would recommend. It is an easy 3 km walk all downhill through some lovely... More

My wife and I love walking. We went up the mountain on the funicular railway and walked miles around the hills. The views are spectacular and we were blessed with a particularly clear and bright day. It does get very busy, so try and go as early as you can if you want to avoid queuing or book a ticket... More
