The Floibanen funicular in Bergen is one of Norway's best-known attractions. Floibanen can be found in the heart of Bergen, 150 m from Fisketorget - the fish market - and Bryggen wharf, and it takes just 10 minutes to walk to the lower station from where the cruise ships dock along Bryggen. The journey up to Floyen (320 m above sea level) takes 5-8 minutes. The journey is an experience in itself, and at the top you can enjoy fantastic views over Bergen. Check out the view right now from our webcam of Bergen seen from Floyen.

There are endless opportunities for walks on Floyen, and you will also find a cafe, restaurant and children's playground. The funicular runs daily all year round from early morning to late evening (check our departure times).

Compared to the cost of everything else in Norway, the funicular is quite reasonable (I think 90 nok return), it runs every 15 minutes from early around 7.30am-11pm weekdays and 8am-11pm weekends. Your ticket lasts 24hours from purchase time but be aware that if you get the bergen card it is free once in the 24 hours but you must... More

This is where you want to go to get the breathtaking view of Bergen city without putting in the effort of hiking. A small tram takes you up there. Perfect for a clear and sunny day. Although they don't come plenty. Drink a cup of coffee or hot chocolate in the restaurant patio and take in the fresh air

We took the funicular up to Mount Floyen on a rainy wnter morning only to be enshrouded in mist at the summit. Thankfully the Gift shop cum cafe was open for us to seek refuge. The mist refused to let up and we were resent to heading down without seeing the city view we were there for. On our way... More

It takes about 30 min each way to hike to the top of Floyen. If you are not looking for exercise and just want to enjoy the views take the funicular. I recommend taking it one way so you get the best of both (hike and funicular ride). The train station is in the city center and very easy to... More

People of all ages will enjoy taking the funicular to the top of Mount Floyen. At the top, the views are incredible! Stop for lunch at the restaurant, buy souvenirs at the gift shop, or hike one of the many paths. You have the option of taking the funicular back down or hiking down. It took our group about 45... The funicular station is easy to find, and the ride up was fun and quick. The view from the top was lovely, even though it was raining! Take time to look around the area after enjoying the view of Bergen below. You'll find a large troll waiting for you, as well as some hiking trails. And of course a gift... More

Great ride up in the funicular. Worth the trip up and then walk back down. Dont be fooled, the trolls weren't real, but the top notch flying fox made up for that.

The railway is very busy and worth going on, particularly if the day is fine and if the number of tourists is not large. As we went up in steady rain, which persisted at the top we returned immediately, after taking a few photos. Going to the gift shop/cafe didn't appeal because of the large number of people. Otherwise, I... More

This is absolutely worth the fee for the amazing views! The quick trip up greeted us with a spectacular sunset view of the surrounding area. Without doubt, this is one of the nicest city views I have ever seen - right up there with Queenstown. Do not hesitate to spend some time up here when in Bergen.
