- ND771United Arab Emirates22 contributionsAT THE MAGIC BAR IN SEPTEMBERThis indeed was an unique experience anyone visiting Tromso must do if time permits. We celebrated my husband's b'day at the Ice Bar. Even the glass in which the drink is served is made with ice. With a temperature of -6 we thought we will not be able to manage it, but we did. With thick jackets and gloves all which is provided by them. September is more or less a less busy time to visit and even the staff at the counter was extremely helpful and answered all our questions and gave us adequate information on the bar and sculptures and over all what we cold expect. Last not least the Receptionist cautioned us since we were with mixed feelings if we could handle it, he said if you are really feeling cold inside the Bar just come out for a few minutes, make yourself comfortable and go back. But we were truly comfortable inside the Bar and did not have to come out at all!Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 8, 2023
- ConversationStartersGainesville, Georgia522 contributionsWarm Welcome/Icy Experience at Magic Ice Bar - BergenOur first, and likely only visit to an Ice Bar. It’s icy cold. Duh. That said, the bar lived up to advance billing. Very welcoming staff, and while we were dressed for the cold an additional warm parka style wrap helped. Welcoming beverage was appropriately COLD. But it made for some fun pictures and a very unique ambience as you’ll likely ever experience. Worth a visit for if nothing else, the experience.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 9, 2023

- Tweekie101Nottingham, United Kingdom189 contributionsNice way to wind away an hourEasy to walk to from the Harbour. We’d never been to an Ice Bar before so this was a first for both of us. We booked online for £38 per couple that included two drinks each. We arrived nearly 2 hours early as I had tried to change the time online. But couldn’t! Keeping my fingers crossed we could get on early. The young lady at reception could not have been more helpful. No problem with us being early. So customer focused. It made the experience really. You are given a cape and gloves. I needed mine. Husband coped without gloves. The room is very small and only a few sculptures. Everything is made from ice. The table chairs bar etc. Drinks…..The Frost wine - crowberry and white wine. Very nice. Then you could choose from a menu for the second drink. I had the Snowy Mountain (Baileys Vodka & Cream) my husband had a Tropical drink (Malibu orange and a strawberry syrup at the bottom) Both served in an ice glass. Very nice. Lots of non alcoholic drinks and soft drinks too. There is a little shopping section to buy souvenirs We were there for about 40 mins. Definitely not for children. Yes it was a little pricey but we’re on holiday and trying something new!!! Glad we went. Staff amazing.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 12, 2024

Could not linger here for more than the time it takes to snap some photos . Provided gloves and lined cape keep the chill away . It is a one and done experience for us but glad we did it . - mkaalongLee's Summit, Missouri128 contributionsA fun and unique experience!!!so much fun!! Our cruise ship itinerary changed at the last minute to Bergen. We saw others were booking the Magic Ice Bar, so we decided to give it a try...what FUN!! After riding the funicular up and walking back down, we were ready to sit down and enjoy some refreshing drinks. We were greeted nicely at entrance and enjoyed the bar (with provided gear) for about an hour with cruise friends! What a fun and unique experience!!! Would definitely recommend!!Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 30, 2024

You get dressed to keep warm in the freezer. Art work is inside. The drink was not to my liking but it is served in an ice glass set inside a regular glass. I just wanted to see what it was like so now I have. It was fun.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 21, 2024

If you are heading to Bergen or docking there for a day on a cruise it's easy to book this direct and easy to find, although a little walk from the main centre.
We booked a package called Bring on the Cold which includes there Arctic Crowberry and a second drink.
On arrival we could leave any jackets, hats etc in a storage area and then donned there provided jacket with hood and gloves. It was a quiet day and they allowed us in an hour early and said we could stay as long as we wanted to. There are come sculptures to look at and a handout where you can read about who they represent, how they are made and how long they last. I particularly liked the frozen roses. We enjoyed taking photos of each other sitting in the throne. Had such a fab time we then bought a third cocktail, but they had spirits and soft drinks available too. Love drinking from the conical shaped ice glass.

My husband and I happened to stop by Magic Ice Bar in Bergen last month, after we visited the nearby aquarium. Although we had heard of these bars, where everything is made out of ice and there are ice sculptures, it was the first time we'd ever been to one.
We were there at about 1:00 PM, and were able to just walk in, although the Web site encourages people to book ahead. When we came into the store, a receptionist welcomed us, and explained what to do. We chose the more expensive package, which allowed us to have a welcome drink and a cocktail of our choosing. Then, we got parka ponchos and gloves and went into the funky, freezing bar.
I loved the music in the bar, and my husband enjoyed the beautiful sculptures. We each enjoyed a local wine for our welcome drink, then had surprisingly good cocktails. We were there just at the time of day when it's allowed to buy hard liquor, so that was a good thing. Everything was covered in ice. Even the "glasses" our drinks were in were made of ice, but served within an actual glass, probably to make it more bearable to hold without gloves.
I would go to another ice bar in a different city, although this is the kind of activity you really only need to do once. Still, we enjoyed it, and would recommend it to those who are into that kind of thing! It really is kind of a fun thing to do in a country where it gets very cold! Especially on a hot summer day.

Our experience at the Magic ice Bar was very good. Michele was very friendly and attentive. Great service, prices can't say they are expensive or cheap. 560nok for the 2 of us including 2 drinks each. Anywhere you go in Bergen for 4 drinks more or less 400nok so just 160nok for the entry.
Totally worth it in my eyes.
Michele keep up the good attitude and service, and it's been a pleasure.

We visited here on a tour and while the wine was delicious, we were expecting a lot more ice art. There is a carved throne for the Instagram crowd and several carvings along the walls but I don’t think we would’ve visited if we’d known how limited the experience would be. The bar does provide coats and gloves if you’d like to visit during the warmer days.

Was here for a bachelor party.
We ordered via e-mail and got the online price, which was NOK 255 per person. It was good. Nice staff too.
The place itself looks more "experience" worthy in photos. Got the feeling of sitting in a freezer, the room/bar was small and dark, we got a signature drink included in the price, a drink with the taste of cranberry juice and spirits, which most of us didn't like and we were a group of 9, they don't serve hot drinks either, I asked if they had coffee with beyles, but got a beyles with vodka and cream. So here they should have upgraded to a proper bartender and possibly done something more with the appearance of the place to avoid the dark cold storage feeling. It's also a bit of a walk from the centre, and when you enter the venue it's like walking into a defunct shop, here they could also do something with the "impression". All in all, not worth the money unfortunately. And there is no wow experience either, the pictures online do not correspond to "reality".

We paid around £60 I think for 2 adults, a 4 year old and a 2 year old. We were in there less than 10 minutes. I was disappointed with the lack of ice sculptures. I have done ice bars in Oslo and honningsvag and found them both to be better. The kids were freezing - there was no coat small enough for our youngest so we had to wrap him in blankets. My eldest moaned about being cold the whole time. Also, their ice machine was broken (!?) so our drinks were served in normal glasses… not that we were in there long enough to finish them. Fine if you are adults wanting to use up time, but definitely not for young kids.

An interesting concept. A room constructed out of ice with a bar of the same and ice sculptures. You are dressed in a large parka and gloves. The concept is interesting but the room is small and it costs 300 kr., which in my opinion is overcharging.

We booked this prior to visiting Bergen by cruise ship and had an enjoyable hour here with a couple of drinks which came included with our entrance ticket
Before entering you are given a cloak and gloves and tickets for the drinks at the bar. The ice bar and display area is small compared to others we had experienced. The ice sculptures are mainly more painting style so flat - not actual sculptures. But they were good , just different - we still had a lovely visit - but wouldn't return. The tables are made of ice and have fur covers on the seats. It made for a nice hour. They have a small shop on site along with toilets.

We were with another couple who were keen to experience an Ice Bar (we had been to one in Prague so the novelty had waned a bit) and did this as part of a ‘Bergen and Beyond’ tour from our cruise ship. It was moderately entertaining and some of the ice sculptures were quite intricate. However, there is not a great deal to retain you after drinking the liqueur from an ice cup and taking a few photos.

Bonjour à tous, je pars à Bergen. J'ai envie d'essayer le Ice Bar.
Quelle boisson me conseillez-vous?
Merci d'avance.

Hello,
If someone could answer my questions, it would be much appreciated.
1. How far is it to the bar from the cruise ships in terms of miles.
2. Is there an age limit or can anyone go? Will have a 13 and 14 year old.
3. When you buy a ticket online is it for a specific time or just good for entry that day.
4. Can you buy online if cruises are in port or have to walk up if not part of an excursion?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Written January 27, 2020
Hi
The ice bar is about 2km from the cruise terminal. Will take you about half hour - it’s down one side of the port, passed the fish market and back the other side.
Age limit is 4+ so you should be fine.
We booked our trip as part of a city tour from the cruise port. If you book independently I guess you book for a specific time to avoid overcrowding. You can take the chance of turning up if it’s not too busy you should get in.
Enjoy your trip.

Hello, what is the best day and time to visit when the cruise ships are not in port?

Hello Nancy,
Any time of the day when no cruise ships are in port!
We are going towards low season so then there is no need for reservations unless you are part of a big group. Just come as a drop-in whenever you want.
If you like to be around lots of people we recommend the last hours before closing, and weekends in general. For families, the best time is around 16:00-19:00.

Are you far from the cruise port
Can we walk there
Should we pre buy tickets or pay on door
Written June 26, 2019
Not far and definitely walking distance. We paid on arrival which was midweek when they opened at 11am. Enjoy, it’s great fun!
Written June 28, 2019
Do they take walk-in or have to go with the cruise reservation? How much is the door admission if walk-in? Thanks.
Written May 2, 2019
You can walk-in, only thing is that if there are any prebooked tours they take priority. That wasn’t a problem when we went though, the staff are very accommodating.
Price works out at about £20 each (or £25 if you have 2 drinks).

We are arriving on a cruise ship we were thinking we could just walk over and enjoy the delights of the Ice Bar.
Would you recommend that we book in advance or is it ok just turn up.

Hello!
We do not take reservation while a cruise is in harbour, only drop-ins (except for excursions which has booked in advance).
Send an email to bergen@magic-ice if you are wondering which time of the day it would be best to visit to avoid the excursion groups.
Hope to see you at the bar! Have a wonderful day.
