One of the most beautiful roads in the world, with hairpin bends, with wonderful waterfalls. Warning: shortly after our visit (early June) we read about its closure due to danger falling boulders and safety works. The closure should continue throughout 2024, consult the various sites before preparing the trip (Visitnorway writes that you can admire the road from the rooftop terrace that is still open but then not being able to travel it is clearly necessary to build an itinerary from 'circumnavigation of the globe').

Dubbed as 'greatest driving road' by Top Gear, I had lofty expectations beforehand and was not let down at all. Roads are in good condition and feel safe at all times. Great road and amazing view from the top.

Its an absolutely must do thing while in Norway.
The scenery is mesmerizing. The view of waterfall along the curvy road is simply magnificent and will blow your mind . There are many viewing platform made where you can view the dangerous curvy roads from the top.
There are some hikes also from here.

The 3/5 score is just because of the rain and fog which obscured the views. On top the visibility was awful, but below a certain altitude it got better, The road itself is great, which many sharp turns and waterfalls along the way. Not recommended in bad weather

The famous Trollstigen is a road full of hairpin bends that climb a mountain.
The interesting thing about this place is that at the highest part there is a public parking lot with a souvenir shop and access to a path that leads to a viewpoint with impressive views of the road running through the mountain, as well as the valley in which it is located. .
As a recommendation: look at the weather report because if you have a day with dense fog, you can see absolutely nothing and the place loses all its magic.

Incredible views over a curvy road and exotic part of Norway. The narrow hairoin road up to the viewpoint where they have made a nice restaurant that fits the surroundings. Nice pathways out to the different viewpoint. Well made, nice views. A definite tourist attraction visiting Norway. Important to have clear weather and the bluer the skies the nicer the photos.

On June 6th, 2024, the pass was closed except for pedestrians and cyclists, but it may open in the next few days. We had a good view from the lower parking lot and drove up to the lookout point on June 7th, 2024, which was also very interesting. The visitor center, including the shop and toilets, was closed. Opening times were not clear. We walked along a well-developed, level path to the edge of the waterfall. Beautiful view, but the serpentine road is only partially visible. Very clearly visible from a lookout point on the right. Concrete path with railings with an incline that got your pulse racing. End with a low-rise staircase. We were unable to get reliable information in advance. Behind closed doors, there were reports of eco-harassment to reduce motor vehicle traffic.
If that is the case, we should be honest about it. We don't have to force our money on people who don't like us.

Our friends from the US came to visit Norway. I recommended of course Trollstigen since I was the one making travel plans in Norway. Of course, Trollstigen did not disappoint. It is a spectacular attraction in Norway and must not be missed. I also took them to Geiranger and Loen. Amazing trip indeed.

Superb views from the top. Then there's a very steep 11 hairpin road narrow road to descend to the valley below. This is a bit of a bum twitcher! When in the valley below, the views are just as spectacular. Drive a few miles further and there are a few gift shops and restaurants. Worth stopping here, as the massive vertical rock walls surrounding you take your breath away. Don't be surprised if fog/mist covers the top of the rock walls though. This is a 'must do' if you're in the area.

Probably the most iconic mountain road drive in all of Norway. I have driven here many times, but every time is just as amazing as the first. The road is narrow and in some parts two cars cannot meet. So drive safe and enjoy the magnificent view

We will be on a cruise in August of 2020 with a stop in Andelsnes. What rental car company did you use in Andalsnes? We would love to do this. The excursion prices are ridiculous and I feel we would see more if we drove ourselves. There will be 4 of us. How far away is the rental car company from the cruise port? Thank you.

We rented our car with avis in the airport of Oslo.

Hi! Hope there's someone who can give helpful tips on 1) the scenic route/s from Stockholm to Trollstigen; and 2) places to camp or stay (hotel or cottage) for a small family. Look forward to your recommendations. Cheers!

Hi
We stayed at a small hytter at Trollveggen Camping... we loved it. Perfect location for Trollstigen!

Does the road between Geiranger and Andalsnes have guard rails at all times?
Written June 19, 2017
Nope. No guard rail at all. That part of the pleasure of drive all across Norway in fact. Roads are often one and a half lane wide (even down to one lane sometimes) which means that you often have to yield for other upcoming cars to pass, especially if you have a wide motorhome like we did.
