We were taken by my husband’s cousin to see where the Nazis had built their bunkers in WWII overlooking the port. Fascinating area and together there had to go past the leper hospital location from the 1600s. Worth finding if you have the time in the region. Also check out the fish market close to where the opera house was being built when we were there in 2017.

We didn't actually visit the Info Center, but we used the on-line site extensively. We loved the information boards posted throughout the city. We were there on a sunny day, so followed the "recommended walking route" and were simply amazed by the beautiful natural and historic sites along the way. The boards explained historical and fun facts and kept us on track.

We arrived at Kristiansand by Cruise ship and did a day tour of the Town and surrounding area. The township has a population of around 85000 and student population of 8000 according to our guide. Norway is sparsely populated with 5 million people. Kristiansand was founded by the King of Denmark of the same name (Kristian, in the 17th Century. Drove through the countryside to Hollem and stopped off at the open air museum at Vest-Agder. The museum was basically a township moved to preserve the old houses, culture and lifestyle going back from the 19th century to around 300 years ago. The local guides had interesting information about the way Norwegians lived during the medieval period. They slept sitting up because they thought that the only people to lay down sleeping were the dead and their soul may be removed if they slept laying down. The children and animals shared the same accommodation for warmth. We also stopped off at the old 14th or 15th century church at Sogne. Drove through the old town, which of course is heritage listed. Depending on your interest, we found the open air museum at Vest-Agder the most fascinating. Kristiansand is a charming town and worth seeing.

Visited Kristiansand by cruise as our final port and to be honest after seeing such beautiful villages at our other ports were somewhat disappointed on arriving here. Initially it seemed quite pretty with the charming bridges, walkways and scented flowers but when you venture into the centre it is just like any other city - plenty of shops all of which are expensive, buskers and even beggers sat outside shops. I had held back all week from souvenir shopping in the hope that Kristiansand would provide me with all that I needed - what a mistake. I struggled to find any souvenir shops for tourists. We gave up and ended up walking in the old part of Kristiansand (Posebyn) which was quite nice with the old wooden houses. There was a former Gestapo Headquarters museum that I would have been interested in visiting but opening times were very limited so really only walked round here for a short time and then returned to cruise ship.

What a pretty little place and such charming people!
The Old Town has been burned down several times in it's history but has now survived, in tact, since the 18th century. The picturesque little wooden houses shone white and well loved on the hillside above the port. This is a real photo opportunity.
Be careful when buying souvenirs, however, as two small boxes of handmade chocolates cost £45.
We had a very good cup of coffee in the main street where free WiFi was on offer. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

We were looking for information on where we could go bouldering. Although they had not heard of it they rang some other offices and came up with all the information we could want. They even printed out maps and itineraries for us. They were happy to converse in English and made us feel very welcome

The staff in this tourist office were very helpful and friendly.
We spent around 5 hours in a sunny Kristiansand and visited the office to get information on what to see in a few hours.
Plenty of information was available and not only was free Wi-Fi available in the office but one of the staff took time to connect my tablet to the internet.
You will obtain all the information you need here in this delightful Norwegian town.

The Kristiansand Tourist Information office is located in the Town Hall opposite the Kristiansand Church. They also set up a temporary place in the port to greet the cruise ships. I arrived own the Regal Princess but skipped the port location to visit the Tourist Office in the Town Hall. they were extremely helpful and provided me with a nice city map showing places of interest.

Please can you tell me how far it is from the cruise terminal to the tourist information in the town hall. Also, what was your reason for skipping the cruise terminal temporary tourist information booths?
Many thanks

Sorry to keep you waiting. Posebyen is about 15 minutes walk from the pier. We also offer a map with a suggested walking tour around Kristiansand. And if you are interested in walking, more like hiking, Kristiansand has beautiful surrounding With tracks, all accessable on foot from the ship.
