We were here when the museum was closed but still had a great time looking at this massive cannon and the other fortifications around the area. If you're a WW2 nut, this is your kind of place.

interesting war site and views but the museum was closed. Our guide helped the situation by walking us around the site explaining the features and history.

If you are at all interested in WWII history and/or large gun emplacements, you should not miss this! The cannon here is the world’s second largest surviving Krupp 15-inch cannon. The gun itself weights over 330 tons and the entire thing with base weighs 500 metric tons. You can actually see through the bore of the cannon. After our wonderful and dedicated tour guide explained how it worked, we went downstairs under the cannon and went through the rooms of displays there. You see ordinance shells, a uniform display and a still working generator. This is truly like experiencing a bit of what the German soldiers did there around 75 years ago. The only restroom available, though, is the original one which has no door. Ladies might want to post someone at the door if they use it. Be careful on the stairs and watch out for the puddles in the downstairs area.

Hi Thank you for a vivid review! It is so good to see that you enjoyed your visit. (The toilet, although very big, may actually be locked from the inside, so we ladies may have all that space to ourselves). Best regards Eva H
