It you get the chance to go inside the fortress, it's very cool - in fact in summertime it still holds the winter cold well preseved inside all through the summer, since the walls are so massive. It also provies great view over the citys sailboats, beaches and harbour. And, it's free!

This fort was built in 1672 by King Christian IV to protect the town founded in 1641. It is located on what some call the Kristiansand Boardwalk. If you are on a cruise ship you can walk here in about a 20 minute easy walk. The view is great. The fort never saw a fight until the 1800's during the... More

My understanding is that the fort saw "action" only once around 1800 with the English. It is an interesting round fortress which, I believe, is an indication of the ancient lineage of fortress design in this region. It was built in the 1600's and is an interesting 20-30 minute stop.

If you walk along the seaside promenade you will come to this "festning" It´s a round building placed close to the sea. On the premise stands seven bronze canon and from there you have a nice view towards the sea. You can´t go in the building.

Fascinating place plus several museums and cafes. Worth a visit if you are docked at the port below the Fortress.

If you happen to be looking for something to do, then add this to your list, but I wouldn't make a special trip here. Unfortunately, the day we arrived, they were having a tattoo convention at the fortress and there was not much to see here and lots of folks trying to see what little there was to offer. It... More

Unfortunately, there was not much to see here. There was the structure, a few cannons, and a lovely view of the harbour. One can appreciate the structure, and there was a bit of signage. More research needed before viewing/returning I guess.

I always enjoy visiting this area when i'm walking through the streets of Kristiansand, this building has a lot of history, and has managed to keep it , both inside and outside. Worth visiting if you're into local history. :)
