Brekkeparken is a beautiful open-air museum and a park at the same time. The exhibit features original well-preserved heritage homes that have been moved to Brekkeparken. It is best visited in summer when local and international visitors could book a tour. It is free to enter the premises. It is also open in winter and anybody can enjoy a peaceful walk around the park. They also have a view deck in the vicinity of the Brekkeparken cafe.

This is definitely one if the biggest "must see's" when you visit Skien city. It's a nice walk from the city center, and you can end it with a visit to the park's cafe.

It is a nice park and a glimpse of Skien (Norwegian) folk history. Not very large, but can enjoy the park atmosphere. For kids the playground is great, usually many children.

Great park at the top of Skien.
There is a large playground for the children, historical buildings and a restaurant with a view of the city.

I visited a park a few times during spring-summer 2014. It is on the top of the hill and one of the ways to get there is walking on the stairs carved with phrases from 'Peer Gynt'. The park is not big, but very lovely. The first time we were very lucky, because the gardeners were replanting tullips, so every visitor could just grab as many as he/she could . Many people come there with their families to enjoy old Norwegian houses and park itself. There is a museum inside the park and a cafe with a panorama on Skien town. The other times coming we noticed that Jazz festivals and other special events take place on a summer scene. We visited one: they are not free, but high-quality.

From the centre of Skien head towards the church and look on your right hand side for acstreet with steps going up. Climb them, cross rhe road and climb the other 100+ that carry on in front of you. A path at the top will take youbtobthe park entrance,

Tours of the museum are available or you can just wander among the many buildings built in genuine Telemark style. At the far end of the park is a cafe and terrace area. Here various outdoor concerts are held during the summer and there is a view over the town.

If you are in Skien this park is a "must see".

It's an amazing place to come and see first hand how people lived in through different ages. The grounds are lovely with flowers blooming in the spring time.
