What people are saying
The biggest disappointment ever
Jul 2022
The hotel has a great view over Oslo but that is all the positive I can say. The personnel is totally unprofessional, slow and rude. There's way too much chaos in reception, people must wait in lines for hours and the receptionists don't have the ability of handling that amount of guest. Also one of the main reasons we booked this hotel was that it had swimming pool, spa and gym which were of course included in the price. But, to our disappointment, it was never ever mentioned that they were renovating. We have lived there on 16 - 19. jul.2022, on a junior suite with view with a family of four. We've arrived 14.15 that day and it was all just disappointment. The receptionist lady (a dark hair miss) was really rude and she just sent me off saying that is too early for check in and I have to come back at 15.00 without even checking if the room is ready or not. After asking few times and receiving the same arrogant attitude they've decided to check if the room is ready and of course it was not. At 15.40 we finally got the room. The room was ok, cleaning was ok but the terrace/balcony door was broken and wide open and it would't close. The door handle was just hanging in there. I went down to reception and let them know and the man there, so terribly slow and lost, told me that since we're in the second floor it should be safe to have the door like that. I asked him to send someone to fix it because I don't want to have the balcony door opened all over our staying. He said that they don't have any handyman over the weekends and usually they just change the rooms in situations like this. I agreed to change the room, but he said that he'll not able to do that right away, so we could go out in the city and on our way back (in 2-3 hours) we could have the new room ready. I didn'tlike the idea but I said ok since the reception was full of people waiting. We came back to the hotel after five hours. He said that unfortunately the cleaning department has not done its job, and he's not having a room ready for us. After long minutes of typing on his computer and excusing himself that the system is not working properly he said that he could give us an upgrade and some food vouchers. We said ok, and he came up with us to show us the upgraded room. This room was not a suite as we booked and paid for, it was not renovated, it was not suited for four people and it smelled terrible. When I asked him where in the world was the upgrade he said that it has better view since it was on 5th floor and not on 2nd like the previous room. We did not accept that room, and he said that he did not have any other solution. So we just had to stay in the room with the broken door and didn't even get the vouchers or anything else, not even apologies for not being able to their jobs properly. I do believe that this actually was a strategy of making us keeping the initial room by showing us that terrible room and presenting it as an upgrade and actually never intended to give us a similar room. By the Way, while we're outside in the garden we've noticed that the room underneath us had the same problem with the door. The breakfast was ok. The restaurant menu was too limited, not much to choose from. We will not come back to this hotel and not recommend it to others.

Massages were ok but it was not relaxing ones. The place was noisy because of children playing and screaming in the swimming pool (the swimming pool belongs to the hotel but only a window separates the spa from the hotel). We tried to cancel massages booking as we were not satisfied with the noise but it was not possible. Be advised that there are masseurs too.

Hi,
This is a follow-up review from one already posted early May. Im about to visit with a professional physiotherapist (for the second time tomorrow in less than 5 days) to hopefully and finally get out of my way the neckpain I contracted during the session my wife and I took end of April at the Holmenkollen Spa (as part of her birthday gift...). It is more than 3 weeks since I have carried this pain around, spiced up with a poor nights due to the constant disconfort felt in the lefthand part of my neck and the upper left side of my back. I was naturally hoping that it would go away by itself (and didnt plan to post this review at all) but well, given the circumstances, it looks like that I simply had too high expectations.

Furthermore, in the meantime, I was also expecting the Spa management team to apologize on behalf of their therapist, which they actually did, but this did not come with any other sort of compensation from their side. Knowing the Norwegian society quite well, I would say that (1) this is very uncommon especially given the high-standard associated with the Holmenkollen Hotel brand, which explains its popularity and success along the norwegian people and tourists worldwide, and that (2) one should have expected to receive more than basic apologies if the Spa was meant to live up to its reputation and customers.

On the top of that, and to explain a bit my review summary, our massage session was actually followed by a 30-minute session in a private hottub, which was so boiling hot that my wife and I had to poor freezing cold water for 5min for not getting burnt (seriously!..). The small room looked quite run down (especially for such a Spa) with an obvious flacky white paint which was only begging to be freshened up!..

This is what I will remember from this session, and I sincerely hope that if you dare paying 2500kr (250GBP) for such a session yourself, you will have a much better and unharmed memory of it afterwards,

Wish you luck!

BR.

Having good experience with Arthesias other llocations in Oslo we were excited to visit their newly renovated facilities in Holmenkollen.

The facilities are very nice. Unfortunately the staff does not live up to a 5 star experience.

Your are greeted by a receptionist who barely looks up sitting next to a plate of his leftover lunch. In the wardrobe there are dirty towels on the floor, toiletpaper on the floor in the bathroom. The shower hose hangs down to the floor. All in all just messy.

While showering a female staffer suddenly enters the mens shower without notice.

In the relaxation are by the pool there are way to many people (15+) and with acoustics of the room it becomes very noisy. Why they accept that many guests at the same time is beyond me.

We ordered a 75 minute massage that lasted at best for 65 minutes. No questions asked as to preferences or needs.

After the massage we asked for some drinks and fruits. I was then told I could go up to the hotel lobby to buy it myself.

All in all, not worth US$500 for two

We rented our own private jacuzzi, had a tasty blottle of bobbles and a great pair of massages. What a way to end the day after a day of skiing in the forest!
Great service and skillful masseurs.
The dressingroom and shower area by the pool does need to freshen up and the size of the SPA is quite small.
Human factor: 5/5
Facilities 3/5
Total score: a strong 4/5

Tried to book a time at the spa on a Sunday.
First and for most they were too busy to answer the phone, but I managed to say that I and my wife would like to have a spa day on sunday, gave them our desired time and that we wished the package called romantic spa for two, they told me to leave a number and they would call me back with the details of the spa experience on sunday and that they would get an extra massuse for the day, no problem at all. They never called me back, and after 6 hours waiting I called them again. Now out of the blue they tell me that they don't work on Sundays, why not tell me this from the start and not promise something they can't deliver. Thank so much for spoiling our wedding anaversery plans. Thanks so much....
