- PandamedicLichfield, United Kingdom5,608 contributionsBig bronze tigerIt's a big bronze tiger located near the entrance to central station. We had no idea why there was a tiger there. But it was pretty cool and lots of people were crowding around it to have their photo taken when we walked past.Visited December 2019Written January 12, 2020

Made by Elena Engelson and installed in 2000 to celebrate, Oslo being 1,000 years old. Oslo has the nickname of Tiger City.representing an exciting place.Visited May 2020Written April 7, 2021
- Aussie252Perth, Australia306 contributionsNot sure what all the fuss is about.Appreciate there is some symbolic significance but...for me. It’s a good landmark outside Oslo central station and great meeting spot! Every time we walked by there were lots of tourists climbing on it or taking selfies.Visited December 2019Written January 17, 2020

- Petur J POslo, Norway10 contributionsThe real story behind the tiger statue outside Oslo central stationBack in the days, when Oslo, or Christiania as it was called back then, went under the name "tiggerstaden" (city of beggars) by Danes and people from the more affluent western parts of the country due to the city's quite palpable poverty. The transition from "tigger" (beggar) to "tiger" could probably be attributed to some part to the intricacies of Danish pronounciation, or lack thereof. Obviously the good people of Oslo prefered to hear "Tiger" rather than "Beggar and hence the slightly surreal nickname Tiger Town.Visited November 2015Traveled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2016
- doctorfoxtrotTaguig City, Philippines7,966 contributionsOne of the city landmarksLocated at the main railways station is this bronze tiger statue . Huge one , but many people are just around it. My tour guide frowns at the mere presence of this tiger , saying there are really no tigers in Norway , I don’t know if that is true.Visited December 2019Traveled with familyWritten December 26, 2019
- chtof2018London, United Kingdom370 contributionsTiger CityThe tiger in front of Oslo Central Station is one of Oslo's most photographed "inhabitants" and one of the first things that meet a visitor arriving at Oslo Central Station. 0When Oslo celebrated its 1000-year anniversary in 2000, Eiendomsspar wanted to give the city a gift. Oslo wanted a tiger, and that's what they got: a 4.5-metre bronze tiger made by Elena Engelsen. The reason Oslo wanted a tiger, is the city's nickname Tigerstaden ("The Tiger City"), which most Norwegians are familiar with. The name was probably first used by Norwegian poet Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. His poem "Sidste Sang" from 1870 describes a fight between a horse and a tiger; the tiger representing the dangerous city and the horse the safe countryside. Since then Oslo has been known as "The Tiger City", but these days it's not necessarily meant as a negative thing. "The Tiger City" can be an exciting and happening place rather than dangerous.Visited June 2019Traveled as a coupleWritten June 24, 2019

Another fun piece of public art in a city filled with hidden art treasures. It's such a big artwork and gets your attention the minute you leave the train station.

This was the first attraction I noticed when I got out of the Oslo Central Station. There are people posing infront of it, had to wait for my turn.
Located near it are benches, restaurants, stops for buses and trams, Johans Gate, etc.

My favorite animal. It was a pleasant surprise to see it right outside the central train station. Worth a quick picture.

This poor statue was being mauled every time we went past it. Families were putting their children on top and kids were swinging from it's tail. It's a lovely statue.

It's a large bronze tiger outside the station. It is quite impressive and it is famous so there could be quite a lot of other people trying to take a photo of it too.

Very nice Sculpture at Jernbanetorget just next to Oslo Central Station. If you walk from Jernbanetorget to Oslo Opera House and you will find it on the way.

A large sculpture placed in the square in front of Oslo Central Station. Beautiful but, all in all, nothing extraordinary. Just a regular monument.
