During a spring break visit to Oslo in mid-March 2016, my wife and I booked an excursion with RIB-Oslo. This 9 meter rigid inflatable boat seats about a dozen, with twin v-six outboard engines capable of rapid acceleration and nimble maneuvering at 50 knots. You'll find the RIB moored at a dock on the Bryggegangen 4, a block or two from the Thief Hotel and immediately adjacent to the patio sides of two restaurants (Olivia Tjuvholmen and Bolgen & Moi Tjuvholmen) (a photo of the restaurants is included in this review, as are two shots of the RIB). I made arrangements for the one-hour excursion directly through RIB Oslo's team: fleet manager Tina Sommerbakken took our reservations and negotiated the price (we were off-season and the price reflected a suitable discount, given that we were the only two passengers for this excursion). Our pilot, Fredrik S. Robertsen, met us at the dock, and after presenting us with waterproof outerwear, goggles, gloves and floatation equipment, he ran through the safety orientation. RIB-Oslo is capable of rapid sustained acceleration, a lot like what you see in Hollywood productions where modern day drug runners and pirates attempt to evade capture from the police. No seat belts, but well-designed shock-absorbing seats worked really well to keep us secure throughout the trip. Fredrik timed our excursion to coincide with the departure of the large ferry (the Color Line) making its way from Oslo to Germany. We tracked the ferry's wake at angles from 45 to 90 degrees, using the wake to leave the surface of the water while rapidly accelerating, making our way into the Oslo Fjord. Before long, we had attracted a large crowd of spectators looking over the railing as they made their way on the ferry to Germany, with our craft tracking and crossing the ferry's path.

As the ferry made its way out to open water and we headed towards the shore, still on our way out from Oslo, we spotted a seal and Fredrik told us about the people and the buildings visible along the shore. You could tell he was a seasoned mariner, and knew his craft very well. It was easy to see how useful such an excursion could be in other contexts - such as business outings, family gatherings, and small-group tours.

The tour probably isn't for everyone. There's no rest room on board, so it's a real good idea to attend to that before you arrive at the dock. I'm not sure I'd recommend it for people with advanced degenerative disk disease or other back impairments; and it probably is not well-suited for children under five years old or for pregnant women. I'd trust Fredrik and Tina to give good guidance about these limitations. But this is an outstanding opportunity to see the Oslo Fjord in a way few people will ever see it.

Just a suggestion: this is not a highly commercialized venture. We were dealing directly with the operators, without the benefit of Viator or similar middlemen. Tina and Fredrik were both great to work with, and promptly responded to all of my email messages. I dropped the ball, however, by not finding out in advance exactly where we were to meet them. Although their business location is Filipstadveien 5 Oslo, you actually are likely to meet them dockside. To get there, map out the streets from the Thief Hotel to Bryggegangen 4, which is the street housing the two restaurants facing the dock, Olivia Tjuvholmen and and Bolgen & Moi Tjuvholmen. (Even though these restaurants use the street name of Tjuvholmen, they open onto Bryggegangen). You'll see the waterway and small-boat dock alongside Bryggegangen; and you'll spot the RIB-Oslo by noting that name on the outboard engine controls (or, if the boat is out, you might see a small parking sign facing the water, indicating it's the home of the RIB-Oslo). We never saw an office, handling the payment for our excursion using a credit card and a tablet that Tina and Fredrik brought with them. Very good people to work with!

When we booked with RIB Oslo there weren't any reviews so we contacted them directly. It turns out that we were the second or third people to book through trip advisor as they had just opened up to it. We booked an RIB for the 5 of us and it was AWESOME! Fred did a great job of having fun with the boat (jumping wakes, tight turns, going 52.5 knots!) and giving us a great tour including the WW2 story about the Nazi invasion of Oslo and the role that Oscarborg played. This is a MUST do in Oslo. After 14 days in the Baltic, our kids rated this the best day of the trip.

We booked a boat for the six of us very easily with Fredrik. It was worth the price as we spent a fun filled two hours with them. The suits were warm and we always felt safe.
He told us some wonderful stories of Norwegian history and we had fun walking around the Fortress of Oscar. If you go there be sure to order the chocolate muffins!

I had the pleasure of going on a RIB safari on the Oslo Fjord 4th February with my colleagues. We were about 300 persons altogether! RIB Oslo managed to arrange it all perfect and I was amazed how smooth everything went. I can highly reccomend the RIB safari with RIB Oslo. The staff has lots of exeperience and are very helpful with a great sense of humor. Look no further - book a RIB safari and get out on the fjords

We experienced this amazing trip today and can't Wait to tell you All how amazing it was😊. our pilot Nicolai was very gentle, knowledgeable and fun. The sea was very smooth and silent but he tried his best to make some action for us and it was really really fantastic!!! He also searched for a seal to see for my son, but we were not lucky enough. It was a 2 hour trip and we went to see fortress in Oscarsborg. Also fortress is charming with its interesting story. We saw many different houses on the fjords. But if I rate overall, having fun on the boat will receive 10 points with stars... 👏 thank you Nico you made our Day!

50knots on flat water is not that exciting. The captain slowed down hvem we hit some waves from a passing ferry. No airtime and poor service.
