One of the best jazz clubs I have been to 2 concerts yesterday (4/8/2023 and 5/8/2023 afternoon concert) was very entertaining. Talented musicians on fire❤️it was packed but comfortable. Everyone seemed to enjoy a great night on Friday and the afternoon jazz on Saturday. Excellent service from Richard at the bar and Manurius at the door. Drinks are reasonably priced. Good vibes. Don’t miss the chance if you are in Oslo and there is a concert at this club. It’s a treat. Ps: book early and get in about an hour before the concert to get a seat

We checked "what is on in Oslo", found a concert, on a saturday at Herr Nilsen. No reservation, tickets sold at the entrance, did not get packed, only rather crowded. Good concert for abt 2 hrs, had some beers - very nice place! Enjoyed it together with english friends visiting.

We have been to Hr. Nilsen many times over the last years, and we have never been disappointed! It is a small place, they don't serve any food and the drinks are rudimentary, but the beer is good and the ambiance is great. There is live music almost every evening, ranging from jazz and blues to soft singers with guitars. Sometimes they have concerts with more well-known bands like Mezzoforte and big band music with famous Norwegian singers. Unfortunately, the very popular "Tuesday Jam" where everybody was welcome on stage to sing or play an instrument was cancelled, we loved those Tuesdays. Still, we will continue our visits as it's a very nice, little bar/pub.

I'm an Engineer, age 56, working in Oslo now for a 6 month assignment. I was excited to find this place since it looked like there were some fantastic jazz shows here. Then I had the unfortunate experience of meeting the owner, sitting with three other gentlemen, who seemed very amused at my questions about the beer menu. He made sure that he was served another drink (I could tell he already had a few) in the middle of my order to make sure I knew he was the boss. Then I endured another 5 minutes of ridicule (in Norwegian, but obvious) while I tried to enjoy my beer - I did not enjoy my beer and got the message loud and clear that this place was for Norwegians. Such a shame to own a club in an international city and look down on foreigners, it seemed so small and petty. There are many venues in this city to choose from, give him his wish and avoid this one.

Every Tuesday, musicians and music lovers meet at Herr Nilsen for jam session! This is the best jam in town. The musicians are amazing and they play everything from jazz, blues, pop, country, reggae and rock. They start with the house band and during the evening many musicians appear on stage. Don´t miss this!

Kind of a dive, it's a small, dark place with a stage set up along the wall. It's a true bar and doesn't offer food, I don't think. Beer is expensive (blame the country, not the bar) and the cheapest draft pints start at $10. There is no Happy Hour or any other kind of drink special that I could discern. While I was there there was a blues band warming up and they were excellent. Apparently they were scheduled to start at 9 p.m. and at around 8:30 p.m. an employee came around and said each person needed to pay $30 or else leave the bar by 8:45. I can't give a review of the band, but I am $30 richer than I would have been. There is an outside patio, likely for smokers, with multiple tables and it seemed like a nice place to hang out. The best feature of the bar is that is about 100 feet from the front door of the Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz. Super convenient, if you're staying at the hotel (I was, and I recommend it).

Perfect place to drop by for some quality live music. Concerts almost every night - and a fabulous musicians jam on Tuesdays! The jam has a house band and all musicians can sit in and play or sing with the band - or other musicians in the audience.
The mood is always great - good service with a smile from the bar - oh! and try the new 25 year anniversary beer they have had made. Smooooth!

It's always a venue for local and popular bands in the summertime. Always packed. But always a good laugh. Difficult to get to the bar which is a shame when you're thirsty.

One of the greater bars with live music in Oslo. If you enjoy a casual atmosphere and quality live music, then this is one of the places you should check out.
