- pfefmeisterSan Francisco, California4,374 contributionsJust AverageIf you happen to walk by, certainly poke your head in and check it out. It appears to be in need of repairs, with the interior just so-so. I hate to give it an average rating, but, even that is generous. A quick in and out is all that is required.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 28, 2023

Formerly Our Savior's Church the Church dates to 1694 and underwent renovation last from 2006 to 2010. - Gregory WMankato, Minnesota3,826 contributions2 Thumbs Up!Oslo Cathedral — formerly Our Savior's Church — is the main church for the Church of Norway Diocese of Oslo, as well as the parish church for downtown Oslo. The present building dates from 1694 to 1697. The Norwegian royal family and the Norwegian Government use the cathedral for public events. In August 2001, Oslo Cathedral was the site of the wedding of Prince Haakon, and Princess Mette-Marit Tjessem Høiby. I attended their Christmas concert. I was fortunate to get one of the last 6 tickets for sale. WINNING! If you plan to go in the future, make a reservation at least 3 weeks in advance. - rtdoodManchester, United Kingdom790 contributionsFree to visit, moderately ornateThis is actually quite a small cathedral to visit, and is not overly ornate unlike some other European cathedrals out there. There is however some beautiful ceiling artwork right across the interior as you look up which is worth spending some time marvelling at. Church services are still held here on a regular basis, so you are reminded to act respectfully when entering as well as encouraged to make a donation given its free to enter as well. They do have volunteers on site sometimes to help with general enquires and selling small items from a small cabinet near the entrance like the cathedral guidebook. When I visited there wasn't anyone there besides other tourists so this may be dependant on the time of day that you visit.Visited February 2024Traveled soloWritten March 5, 2024
- Jane R21 contributionsBeautiful and Interesting InsideWanted to see this Cathedral -- not so impressive from the outside, but quite lovely inside. Seems to be used as a community space/concert space more than a religious space at this point. Gorgeous pulpit, organ pipes and ceiling. Definitely worth a visitVisited February 2024Traveled soloWritten March 14, 2024

I t dates from 1697 and may be small in comparison to more famous cathedrals. However it is actually quite nice inside and has been beautifully restored. When you arrive at church sit down and look in peace around you. The frescoes on the ceiling are stunning, the pulpit is incredibly decorative and the altar painting is not a painting.
I was lucky enough to come to church on Saturday morning when the cantor played the organ. It made the visit perfect.

A landmark in the centre, it is a glorious edifice in brick. On the door are numerous bas-reliefs sculptures depicting aspects of life.
Stepping inside is to see an inspiring place of devout worship.
A superlative vista along the central aisle leads to a lovely altar area with its elaborately ornate altarpiece.
Gazing to the rear a richly decorated ceiling is beautiful. A wonderful organ is in its elevated place and no doubt rousing music emanates.
Stained glass examples are delightful, vibrant in their holy imagery. Pulpits and balconies are lovely.
In the grounds is the moving Iron Roses Memorial, a tribute to the 77 victims of the awful attacks of 22 July 2011.

A beautiful Lutheran church located right in the middle of central Oslo. Erected in 1697. Don't miss the carving on the outside that is over 1000 years old. The seal of Oslo greets you as you enter. The entire cathedral is colorful with bright ceilings, stained glass and everything you would expect to find in a beautiful church like this one. Much of the artwork inside is from the past few centuries as well as some "modern" touches. The windows in the choir were made by Vigeland's brother. All of this information is presented in English inside the chapel, as well as Norwegian, of course. One of the nicest active churches you will visit in Norway.

The Domkirke is in the heart of the city center and wll worth a visit because of the interesting painted ceiling. In the choir stained glass windows by Emanuel Vigeland, Gustavs brother. During our visit it closed quite early,a t 4 PM. Entrance is free.

Beautiful Cathedral located in the middle of town. Open to the public and a very reverant place to visit and find some peace and quiet for prayer, away from the hustle and bustle outside.
Worth visiting to admire its beauty within and even coming in for a service - whether you are religious or not.

Beautiful cathedral, right off Storgata (a direct shot from our hotel) in the middle of the downtown area. Very intricate architecture on the altar, delicate mural painting on the ceiling. Not a very big cathedral/church but worth seeing since it is very old, late 1600's. It is not open every day, so check when they are open for visitors. There is no cost to see the cathedral.

Walked to Oslo Cathedral. Entry is free. Oslo Domkirke Kirkeristen. Photos on outside and then moved in. Very simple design, but ceilings have interesting paintings. The raised pulpit is intricately designed. The organ pipes are beautiful as well.

Could you please tell me at what time will be the mass?
I also read about an organ concert every Saturday in July and August
May I please know the starting time and duration of the concert and the ticket price?
Thank you so much

I was in Oslo in April, the weather was nice, about 14-16 degrees C, you need something warm to sit outside if you want to enjoy your meal outside, that is very nice. It may rain also at that time.

Hi,
I I would like to get information about the Christmas concert by the Oslo cathedral choirs. Which kind or songs are sung? should i buy the tickets before, or can i buy them in the Cathedral? is it a good show?
Thank you in advance!!

hola alejandro:
saludos
