This tour is excellent for people who are new to Oslo and have limited time. The cruise for 2 hrs (optional) at the end is fun but can be missed if one has limited time. The tour guide Elena was knowledgeable and succinct with her information.

I've been to Oslo before but my friend hadn't so, on a snowy day in March, we boarded the coach. I'd done the exact same trip a couple of years previously and it was very good but this time, thanks to our exceptional guide Line, it was a whole new level of fun and excellent. Line obviously loves her city and is extremely knowledgeable - however, it was her enthusiasm for sharing the knowledge and her flair for speaking and engaging her audience that really brought the tour alive. The five hours flew by: we were lucky enough to see a tiny bit of a ski jumping and cross country competition that was on at Holmenkollen, complete with audience dancing to the pop version of Africa :-)
I can't highlight any of the trip as being the best but the Fram museum was particularly interesting for me: I knew of Nansen but Line told us a lot more about him and it's inspired me to further reading (he has become my new hero!).
This trip is a great way to see the beautiful city if you are tight for time - and if you're lucky enough to have Line as your guide, you found the golden ticket.

I took the five hour tour that pretty much gave you a good introduction to the city. We went around town and then made stops at three landmarks. The best was the ski jump and then we saw two museums. There were specialty museums and I probably wouldn’t have gone to them but I liked them for what they were.

The coach was nice and filled with foreigners from all over. They were mostly darker skinned folks from equator area countries, I think. I was the only American on the tour. No one was very friendly, not even the tour guide. I’m not used to such a cold environment, but maybe it was because it was winter. Even the tour guide said we were unusually quite; maybe no one understood him? It was a very strange group and no one talked to each other which I didn’t care for, but I didn’t go there to socialize.

The trip was long, for a 5-hour tour. I guess because I was getting hungry and started at 10:30 am. I can see why it wasn’t all day because it was nearly dark when we finished at 2:30 pm. But it was the only tour going that day. Everything else started March 1 or later. I guess this is not a winter destination, but I thought skiing was a popular activity in Norway??

The tour guide tried to be nice and smiled a lot but the group was a big dud. I asked him questions and he was knowledgable, to a degree. I didn’t like his opinionated comments, however. He complained about a lot of things and gave his take on matters which is going to offend people, not a very smart thing to do as a tour guide. Perhaps that is why the folks didn’t respond very well. By the time we had driven around the city, he had already given us his soap box on a lot of things, including his opinion of everything, which I didn’t need. His attempt at jokes had the opposite effect. Since the city was so disorganized, I tried to get my bearing straight and asked him where we were in relationship to the airport, but I had to tell him the sun sets in the West, so he didn’t have any sense of direction, either.

He spoke a lot about WWII, almost to the point of ad nauseam, and denigrated the Russian burial ground of Russians in a park we went by, who were killed fighting with the Allied Forces in Norway for the Norwegians, which was appalling and did the same to the Nazi’s, but went on and on how Hitler had picked the Norwegian people as the perfect race and even told us where the perfect race of people were from, a place close to Lilyhammer; perhaps where he was from?

Maybe that was why so many people were silent. Perhaps, they may have been outraged by him knocking just about every group (including Americans) but holding the Norwegian people in such high regard. I was the only Norwegian (American) on the bus and I was not the least impressed by his diatribes. It was enough to silence me, but this was my tour of my heritage, so I was excited to begin with, but shocked none the least!

If you overlooked the nearly racist commentary, it was ok, and certainly better than trying to navigate the city on your own. I learned when speaking to the public, don’t criticize, condemn or complain. Rule #1 which was broken every time the guide engaged his mouth, before his brain.

But the Holmkollen Ski Jump was a gem. The winding through the city was informative and the museums were, well, interesting and unique. Not what I would have picked, but I’m not sure what else was open; little else was and there was very little daylight to get much else squeezed into the tour. I’m glad I went, though, despite the rather rude and insulting comments of a very cavalier guide! It was the only tour running on a sunny Sunday in January in Oslo, Norway.

OK we went for the most expensive option and at the end of the day could not determine why ours cost more than the cheaper tours, since all of us were on the same bus with the same stops. This 6 hour bus ride gave us a general orientation tour of the city. The guide rattle off her spiel in several languages, with the shortest descriptions in English.
We made several interesting stops, but not long enough a some.
The bus driver was crabby and started the day off yelling at some customers. We got yelled at for being confused about which bus to board when they switched buses halfway through the trip. He also yelled at us and others who tried to bring refreshments aboard. This bus goes through the lunch hour, but if you get a snack at a kiosk, don't dare bring it on the bus.
There was minimal help for handicapped people on our tour.
Our tour guide gave confusing instructions at each stop. In one case she took off her identifying jacket and forgot to bring her tour leader sign.

At the end of the tour we got an unpleasant surprise. The shuttle bus that brought us from our hotel was no longer available. When asked how we get back to our hotel the answer was "walk". Then we asked how to get a taxi and they pointed us to some obscure taxi stand several blocks away and uphill. This was a very rude treatment for those of us unable to find our way or walk long distances on shoot sunny day.

Dear customer, thank you for your feedback. Our tours have different durations. This means: If you pay more you receive more. In your case was this a 7 hour fulll day tour including a 2 hours Fjord Sightseeing tour and a 5 hour bus tour which took you through Oslo city center, up to Holmenkollen and the Vigelandspark. Futhermore there are 3 museums included in this full day tour. The other tours are cheaper because they do not include so much. We work right now on an audioguide on the bus there you will get the full package of information during the time you are on the bus. The guide will than guide only at the different sights. The Audio guide will be in operation from midt of August 2014. Than there won't be any differences in comments and lenght during the tour anymore. We will have the audio guide on the bus in 8 different languages (English, German, Norwegian, Spanish, Italian, French, Danish, Russian). Regarding our pick-up bus from the hotel: Our pick-up bus is a "pick-up"-bus not a shuttle. In all the broshures, flyers an on the website it is clearly stated that this is not a shuttle bus. But I would like to talk to the guide and the bus driver about this feedback. Especially when it comes to the "rude" treatment you talked about. This is not acceptable for us as a tour opeartor. Please let me know on what date you took the tour. We have different bus drivers and guides on the tours every day and I would like to be sure to talk to the right persons. I am looking forward to hear from you. Veronika Stecker Manager Sales & Marketing veronika@hmk.no

We had one day in Oslo so we wanted to see as much as possible. This tour was on a double deck bus so there were probably about 50 people. The guide had an audio system on the bus but not when we were out of the bus. We went to a ski jump! There was nothing to see. We just milled around the parking lot. Then we went to Vigeland Park, the Viking Museum and the Fram Museum. The guide would get out of the bus and proceed to talk about what we were seeing. But with 50 people we could not hear her as we couldn't get close enough to her. When we attempted to ask a question, we explained that we could not hear her. She proceeded to berate us for not getting closer-so were we supposed to stand on people's shoulders. She could have easily described what we were going to see on the bus where she had an audio system. It was a complete waste of money and time.

Dear Likestotravel1000, Thank you for choosing our sightseeing tours to spend your day in Oslo and we've very sorry to hear it didn't meet your expectations! On our tours, we've included some of the best attractions in Oslo and Holmenkollen Ski Jump is one of them. Many people join our tour because they really want to see this ski jump with their own eyes, after seeing it on TV in different ski jumping competitions. Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Fram Museum and the Viking Ship Museum are also representative for Oslo and Norway's history and culture, and the guides have to explain and give information as you walk along and actually see the things they're talking about. Usually the guide speak lound enough so everyone can hear them and I'm sorry you couldn't hear well the guide that day. But your review is taken into consideration and we'll do our best to improve the execution of the tour so that everyone will be able to hear the guide in the open spaces. Thanks again and wish you all the best! HMK Sightseeing

Pros:
* You get to see a lot in a short amount of time. If you have only a day in Oslo, it's great.
* The guide we had was excellent

Cons:
* There's no scheduled time to eat. The bus driver told us at the beginning that we're not supposed to eat on the bus, so you're either not eating from 10am to 3pm or having to miss a museum to eat.
* You should bring a lunch because the food options at the Fram were awful. Similarly the food options on the cruise were limited and not great.
* The cruise is not covered so be prepared for 2 hours of direct sun if it's sunny.
* There was a lot of people on the tour (a full bus worth) because they combine this tour with other tours with shorter lengths for the first parts.

Overall I don't regret taking this tour but by the time the cruise came we were hungry and tired and in the sun, which kinda soured the thing.

This tour was decent, but not great. It is arguable whether or not it was worth the high price. A lot of what you see, is while driving in the bus and it is hard to see anything because of the speed at which you are going, or maybe the sights are on the opposite side of the bus you are sitting on, etc.

I wish we had more time at the Viking museum. I also which we had more time at the ski course. The boat ride was nice, pretty long actually, you see some islands and the Oslo coastline but don’t expect to see a traditional fjord, no cliffs, nothing spectacular

Dear Guest, Thank you for joining our tour and for taking the time to review it. We’re sorry to hear you have doubts whether the tour was worth the price or not, and I can only say the price includes a package discount and it’s cheaper than booking the bus tour and the boat tour separately. Indeed, during the panoramic sightseeing in the city centre there are no stops included, but we’re driving as slow as possible by all the main landmarks in the city, and the time spent at each location is right for taking in all the main attractions. Of course, one can always spend more time at the preferred attraction, but we’re trying to offer a good overview of the most important highlights in Oslo on this 7-hour tour. Regarding the cruise on the Oslo fjord, the scenery is of course different compared to the fjords on the Western coast of Norway, but we hope you still enjoyed it! We wish you all the best and we hope you enjoyed your trip to Oslo on the overall! Welcome back another time!

I can honestly recommend the full tour as it is going through the main attractions and during the transfer, you can learn a lot about Norway as well what otherwise you would miss. We were lucky with Helene as she was super helpful and kind as a guide.
I suggest doing this tour in the early days as someplace might need a little bit more time to fully and meaningfully visit so worth to go back to the same area in a later day if that is an option. For example, the statue park for me needed 2-3 hours as I really enjoyed it. but the guided tour has given some context to it so still worth to include it.

This 5 hour tour and 2 hour cruise was terrific. Our guide was very informative and pleasant. Being a huge sports fan I absolutely loved the Holmenkollen ski jump. The Fram museum and Viking Ship museum were very impressive. I felt that the amount of time spent at these sights was adequate. The city centre portion was nice but it was these other sights that made the tour so worthwhile because they are not close by or within walking distance. I especially loved the Vigeland Sculpture Park but felt like it could have been planned better. Our guide had us standing in one spot at the base of the statues just talking to us about the park (which is huge) that it gave us very little time to view the statues. You had to stay close to her because you didn't want to miss what she was saying but basically as soon as she was done we had to move on. I think had she told us about the park while riding on the bus or as a tour that I did in another city where we all had earphones and the guide had a device we he could speak to us but we didn't have to be standing right by him would have been better. We were able to walk about and still hear his narrative. I realize there is a lot to cram into a short amount of time so this could have been done in a better way. The tour company should think about how to improve this. The cruise was very beautiful and relaxing. Overall this tour was definitely worth doing.
