There are stunning waterfalls along the Akerselva river in the Grünerløkka district near the Oslo city center.

The river offers a pleasant place to walk. There are also many parks along the river.

Less than 1/2 mile from our lodging we strolled over to the North Gate Bridge and turned left. We walked along the Akerselva River through lower waterfall park. Mostly calm running there are several sets of falls. There are two fish ladders along the run. Unique in design they allow smaller fish to move through and not just the larger salmon. You pass the love lock bridge en route. The park is lovely. The last bridge takes you to the backside of the old sailcloth mill that was powered by the waters. Great sounding, exceptional beauty.

You take the 11, 12, or 13 tran North from central station to Biermanns gate stop. The it is a one block walk to the West. I love water falls. Once you get to the first falls - you just keep walking South along the creek/river and get to see a few more. They are not huge but the walk is beautiful and so peaceful. I would have walked all the way back to central station but the last half - the trail was under construction. It looked like they were upgrading it for flood prevention. I also got to meet a ton of friendly locals along the way.

On the way back into the city centre, having visited Our Saviour's Memorial Cemetery, we dropped down to find the waterfall at Molla. Totally unexpected and the noise was deafening. I would totally recommend. It's also well placed to visit a great food mart in the area. Lots of choice for a casual lunch.

The Mølla Waterfall is on the Akerselva River that flows through Oslo. It is a thoroughly enjoyable walk with many cascades and great places to take photographs. There are park and play areas along the way as well.

Catch the 11, 12 or 13 tram to Biermann's Gate then walk one block west to a good starting point for the path. Then walk south. Along the way you will find a little red cafe - Hønse-Lovisas hus - where you can relax for a while.

After crossing over the interesting Åmodt suspension bridge, you can walk to the Telthusbakken bus stop to catch the 34 or 54 bus back to Jerbanetorget in Oslo. (The bus stop is at LAT 59.9245 N, LONG 10.7506 E.)

Photography hints: Use a neutral density filter (and tripod) to get a flowing effect of the water in the falls.

Passing a couple of waterfalls on our walk along the grand river, this is the highest and most impressive.

A fine effervescence is produced with copious white spray as it thunders along.

One of my favorite places in Oslo. Located not so far from the city centre (you can walk along the river from Opera / Bjørvika area), it makes you feel closer to nature and offers a stunning view no matter what the season and weather conditions are. Definitely worth seeing.

We had already spent a few days in Oslo and had done several of the "touristy" things in the more central part of the city. However, this trail and its waterfalls were off the beaten path. The area had a more laid-back and hip vibe. It seemed like the part of town where the locals go. The trail was pretty and we enjoyed the walk!
