About
The river Akerselva runs from Maridalsvannet through the centre of Oslo and into the Oslo Fjord. The river is 8 km of recreation, through forests and industrial history, fishing, swimming and several waterfalls. The highest waterfall is next to Honse-Lovisas hus (a small, red house) and the Beier bridge.

Good For A Dip!
Jul 2020
This time we decided to swim in this river in the area of Kjelsås (northern Oslo).
Again, we found it very clean to the naked eye and relaxing in the sun. Great for our family and our young granddaughter who made full use of her blow up crocodile. A pleasantly warm current in the shallows and even in the deeper areas. Ducks didn't seem to be bothered by our presence.

Truly wild river running through Oslo
Feb 2020
We took a walk along the Akerselva River and were really surprised to see water falls, rapids, etc - lovely walk even though mid-winter. Along the way there is plenty to stop to look at, bars, cafes, shops, etc.

Very nice!

You can get an extensive impression of industrial history along almost 10 km long hike from Maridalsvannet to Grønland. In addition, you have a good work-out and see a lot of strange Norwegians out hiking.

A Top River Running Through The Capital!
Feb 2020
We walked a lot along the pathways to the north of the river, on the outskirts of Oslo, in the area of Kjelsås.
A lovely area, taking in the peace and tranquility of the place. Generally very clean and tidy during this mild February. Lots of people out walking, cycling and jogging at the weekends over the undulating ground. Lots of seats to sit on and take in your surroundings. Play areas for the kids every so often and also areas to feed the ducks. Evidence of the beavers having beavered away on the trees along some of the riverbanks. Man made waterfalls to be seen and evidence of the industrial past.
An excellent river, for an excellent capital!

Walking from the beginning of the path till Oslo bus terminal is just outstanding, I did this hike more than once and I never get bored of following the river and seeing the nice small waterfalls on the way. I highly recommend it!

Visit in Oslo or seeking a way to escape!?

You can start from different places, each corner has the unexpected!

Living in Oslo for 10 years now, Akerselva never gets “old”. Always something to see! All year round!

From industrial sceneries, sculptures, cascades to picturesque nature sites it has it all.

Beuatiful area right downtown

We took a Viking Biking tour Off the Beaten Path, and rode along the river, it is just an amazing area, calm, green, there is a waterfall, restaurants. I would highly recommend going there for a nice walk or bike ride. We went on a Sunday and the whole town was out sunning!

Part of Oslo
Jul 2019
Akerselva River is Oslo's main river. It is not an attraction per se, but one of the things that creates the city special spirit. Walking is enjoyable, but the overall impression may depend [quite a bit] on the city area/district.

Long river through Oslo, lots of sights along the way!
Jun 2019
This river that goes through Oslo is definitely worth visiting, taking a walk along it for an hour or two. There is lots of information about it (in English) -- just google it -- and there you will find a description of all the sights along the way. Very good if you have children who need some physical activity time. Highly recommended.
