About
The beautiful wooden Holmenkollen Chapel is beautifully situated next to the Holmenkollen ski arena. The chapel was inaugurated in 1913. In 1992, it was set fire to and burned to the ground. The re-building of the chapel was commenced in 1995, and the new chapel was inaugurated in March 1996 by the bishop of Oslo. Service every Sunday and on Christian holidays.

Picturesque wooden chapel in the middle of a slightly wooded area overlooking the Ski Jump, Holmenkollbakken. We couldn’t enter as it was closed at the time, but it was an unexpected find for us whilst we were walking around in the snow and looks wonderful.

boring church. Thought this would be more interesting, but compared to cathedrals in for example Belgium this is not worth it. Rather enjoy the fantastic nature or take the extremely cheap public transport around to explore all parts of Oslo.

The original chapel from 1903 was destroyed by arson in 1992.
The new chapel was completed in 1996 to resemble the original stave church.
The church was closed during our visit. So couldn't see the interior.

A wooden church, I didn't find it particularly thrilling, but it's a nice stop if you're on a walk around the area, which as a whole is a great activity.

This church is a beautiful piece, made of wood, rebuilt after a fire. This picture is taken from the road.

As we happened to be visiting the famous ski-jump on a Sunday, we first went over to see the nearby Holmenkollen Church. The building is of an all-wooden construction, built originally in 1903. After an arsonist set fire to it in1992, it was completely rebuilt from timber to the original designs.
As it turned out, we were in time for the morning service and coincidentally there were 6 christenings scheduled. Many of the babies' parents turned up wearing national costume, which of course made for an interesting spectacle!
The church is registered in Norway's cultural heritage database.

We were walking the area, after going to the ski museum and we saw this church and we just liked to see how different parts of the world build their churches. We walked in and if you can imagine a mountain cabin, that's what the inside of this church looked like. It was built very nicely.

Such a beautiful chapel with carvings inspired from the Viking culture. Nicely rebuilt in 1996 after it was burned down by black metal legends in 1992. If you are into black metal music, this is a must see!

We attended a wedding at the church and it was stunning from first impression. You see the church atop the hill as you drive up the entrance. Inside the high ceilings and natural light make the room look heavenly.
