Cozy, decorated for Christmas. Stretches from the central station to the royal palace. Lots of sightseeing on the way, e.g. the building of the parliament (Stortinget), the university and the cathedral. Lots of shops, if that is your scene. Lots of cafes and restaurants, too.

Many and varied shops and plenty hotels in this area. Shopping a little expensive. Near Vinterland - amusements, shopping and food - December time. Great Fun.

It is the most well known street in Oslo. For the most part it is open only for pedestrian traffic. The architecture along this street is amazing and the flower decorations from Spring to Autumn are everywhere with beautiful vivid colors. You can find many well known brands on this street. It is not rare to encounter a street musician elevating the summer night feeling. The sidewalks are decorated with quotes from famous Norwegian authors and I find it is a really good idea. Despite the pandemic situation, the traffic on this street is always high but currently there are many construction sites disrupting the walk. During the Winter time it is the home for the Oslo Christmas Market and the decorations and lights are beautiful.

* First place and most often visited place for all tourists or migrants who go to Oslo. I went to this street almost on every alternate day during my stay of over 2+ years in Oslo.

* It STARTS FROM Oslo Central Station, CONSISTS OF the city's biggest shopping alley and ENDS AT the Royal Palace!

* Has numerous clubs, bars and cafes in between all the shops, shopping centers and hotels.

* Main shopping brands - H&M, ONLY, Glitters, Zara, Nilson Shoes, Bikbok etc stores located here.

* Norway Souvenir shops such as WayNor, The Troll Shop, Norway house are situated here.

* Many City ATTRACTIONS such as Oslo Opera House, The Munch Museum, Tiger Point, Oslo Cathedral, Storting Building(Parliament), Royal Palace are located on it.

* Some of the Food joints which I liked over there - Peppes Pizza, Rice Bowl Thai Cafe, Pincho nation, Mcdonald's, GRAND CAFE etc

* People play musical instruments on the street. Very cheerful and nice atmosphere.

* Good for walking and scooter riding when less crowd is there.

* During winters, CHRISTMAS MARKET known as "Christmas in Winterland" is there on this street. It has many wooden stalls serving food and hot drinks. Ice skating is also done here.

* Nearest TRAIN STATIONS - Jernbanetorget, Stortinget, National Theatre

** Must go when alone/ with friends/with family for shopping/ wandering/ photography/history/ at morning/noon/evening/weekdays/weekends all times :-) :-)

At the heart of Oslo, connecting the main railway station to the Palace with many interesting shops and cafes on the way. As a huge Jo Nesbo fan it was great to wander in the footsteps of Harry Hole and see Egertorget square, Stortinget etc. I have snuck in a photo of nearby 5 Sophie's Gate.

Highly recommended

This main street connects Oslo Central Station and the Royal Palace.

For the most part, it is a pedestrian street filled with shops, restaurants, and cafes.

This 1020-meter-long street was named in honor of King Charles III John.

Beautiful atmosphere, interesting buildings and nice shops in this central street. Not as gorgeous as other capital cities Main Street, but lively and clean. The stores all around are not as expensive as we thought. The cafes were good enough. Too many beggars across the street...
