    Outstanding
The giants of Norwegian literature, Ibsen and Bjørnson, are honoured with fine portrayals in bronze in front of the home of the country’s most important performance stage. It has a delightful façade in yellow brick complemented with a double array of columns. Amongst the higher columns is listed the names Ibsen, Holberg and Bjørnson. A pediment has sculptures of classical themes. Launched in 1899 it is known colloquially as Ibsen’s theatre and every year it presents some of his famous oeuvre.

Opened in 1899 and situated half way between the Royal Palace and the Parliament building. Statues of Ibsen and Holberg are outside as is a nice small garden to the right side of the building. Considered to be the home of Ibsen's plays.

    A Historical Landmark !!
This beautiful historical theatre is located between Royal Palace and Parlimaent near Karl Johans Gate. We came here with our walking tour guide. There are two big statues of famous playwriters of Norway ie Ibsen and Bjornson, as told by our tour guide. A small beautiful park is just next to it. Worth spending some time...

I noted that its location is always busy with the buses, trams, and metro having their stops here. It is located near the City Hall or Radhaus and the Royal Palace.

Infront of this attraction is a huge statue of a famous Norwegian. There are also other sculptures around it. Benches are available for one’s use. Took several pictures of its exteriors and sculptures.

I’d love to see a show here before I leave Oslo.

A fantastic building that features statues of Ibsen and Bjornson. The top two playwrights in Norway history. A fun building to explore and a great park nearby for relaxing and taking in all of the activity around the theater. If you time it right, you may get to see some live performances. Either way, you get to enjoy this great historical building.

As a foreign tourist, I obviously didn't go to a play. I only saw the building from the outside. It is old, beautiful, but not out of the ordinary. 10 minutes to see it from different angles and that's it.

Beautiful architectural neoclassical design. Very historic. At the end of Karl Johann gate. Now in winter it is fronting the Christmas markets . Don’t miss a photo op at this one.

Oslo's National Theatre was inaugurated in 1899. It is centrally located between the Royal Palace and the Parliament of Norway. The building is Norway's most prominent venue for the performance of dramatic arts.

Statues of the great Norwegian writers Henrik Ibsen and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson guard the theater's main entrance. They also have their names engraved on the theater's facade, along with the playwright Ludvig Holberg.

It's a Norwegian Cultural Heritage Site...first performance was in September 1899 so it's been around for a while. Lots of interesting sights to see in the vicinity.

The National Theater is one of the various neo-classical buildings in central Oslo, along the Karl Johann gate. Following the great tradition of Ibsen, one of Norway's best known writers, the theater, opened around 1899, schedules performances all year around. The facade faces a popular square with a beautiful fountain reminiscent of a giant dandelion, with a convenient subway station on one side. The back faces the Parliament (several blocks away) and includes three larger than life statues of Norway's three best authors. The theater is partially supported by the Norwegian governmets
